Trying to get more into the podcast game, know most of the basic ones but want some more in depth ones with interesting topics, could be anything as Im not picky.

Will try to give every rec a opportunity! With news/politics/sports I will probably go with more recent episodes. With more seasonish ones I will probably go around the start unless you recommend a good starting point/episode that will get me hooked.

Love Dead Rabbit Radio but I don't think it would be appealing to most.

Welcome to Night Vale and Lore are musts.

Last Podcast on the Left is great too.

History: Hardcore History
Comedy: The Tim Dillon Show
Gaming: Retrograde Amnesia
Mystery/Crime: Serial (season 1)

All of those except Retrograde Amnesia are already massively popular, but for good reason.
Tech: Brad & Will Made a Tech Pod, every week, they pick a random tech-related topic, could be something as broad as stuff that came out in X year or as specific as Were gonna talk about Network Attached Storage, and its way more interesting than it sounds.

They are so incredibly good together. I fear that the podcast will remain niche forever though just because 50+ episode seasons on single games makes it hard to grab new listeners. Really looking forward to starting the Chrono Cross season.
I have two I love. They aren't really "explore a specific topic" type podcasts though, just two guys chatting.

Bad Friends - Comedy duo of Bobby Lee and Andrew Santino - standup comedians

I went on a deep dive of podcasts in the LA comedy scene, starting with Joe Rogan and listened to a ton of the comedians that frequent the Comedy Store. They all started podcasts years ago following in Rogan's footsteps. A lot were junk. The ones I liked and stuck with were 1) Your Mom's House with Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky, which is a married couple, and 2) Tigerbelly, which is Bobby Lee (who you might know from Mad TV). I think Tom is incredible at this, but it can get a little too gross. Tigerbelly is good too but Bobby gets a bit too much his own ass with his ego. But at some point Bobby started another podcast with Andrew Santino, and they made Bad Friends and real magic happened. I think their chemistry is absolute top tier stuff. Also a key component is Rudy, the niece of Bobby's girlfriend who recently moved in with them from the Phillipines and has been adapting to American culture. She started serving as their in studio producer once the pandemic started since she was living in Bobby's house anyways.

I'm not so sure recent episodes are good to start with. Just starting at ep 1 might be a good idea. But here's a couple clips I really like

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfWOSM2Eixk
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QkTz8bqWRU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSEsn8KTxfc

First episode:

Intentionally Blank - Brandon Sanderson and Dan Wells - authors

This one is more recent. It's not really about books despite the hosts being hosted by two authors. I'm a huge fan of the author Brandon Sanderson, and he likes to do youtube videos / live streams talking to fans and answering questions. A stunningly boring task he does is signing books alone in a basement for hours, so to pass the time he'll do live streams talking to fans while he signs. I watch them a lot, but recently there was a really good episode where a sci fi author friend Dan Wells chatted with him while Brandon was doing his signing. A fan asked them to rank the Indiana Jones movies or some other franchise and they both did so and gave a lot of insightful thoughts on what worked and what didn't about each movie. Then the rest of the livestream devolved into them just ranking every popular franchise like Star Wars or DC movies or whatever. It was a ton of fun. I remember thinking it was really good at the time, and then a month or two later they decided it went well too and chose to start a podcast together.

The podcast is just generally them shooting the shit talking about pop culture or talking about personal stories or writing or whatever.

The original live stream that inspired this:

First actual episode:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbA4n8PJwoI&list=PLSH_xM-KC3Zv3L2dLcX3WmtbQsfB8YSSw

I think both these podcasts really just boil down to if you like the personalities of the hosts and seeing them talk about random shit. If so, it's very entertaining, if not, it's probably boring and literally nothing.

Yeah I never played Chrono cross but I still plan on listening to their podcast after I finish xenogears because they're genuinely entertaining enough that I feel like I'll still enjoy it. Might have to start donating to their Patreon they shill every episode lol

Yes IIRC.

Also just saw that season 3 is FFVIII oh shit

Tony Kornheiser Show and Dan Lebatard are the best pseudo-sports shows. I like Bomani Jones and Mina Kimes if you want more serious sports discussion.

Office Ladies and Fake Doctors, Real Friends are good ones if you're a fan of The Office and Scrubs.

Joe Rogan

I picked the Tarantino episode because it was the only guest that really interested me to listen to for 3 hours (out of the newer ones at least). I forgot how crazy that man is, and I really liked the tangents about Chase and Kill Bill. Hes also extremely knowledgeable about movies, its almost ridiculous that he can just pull a random movie or moment. That said, there are certain things that I didnt really like. I think the episode focused a lot on the Bruce Lee scene from Hollywood and it didnt seem that Rogan really did a lot of prep work (Tarantino basically led the conversation.) I have heard a few things that were negative about Rogan politically but they werent really brought up here. I dont know if I would watch another episode, it might depend on how good the guest is (and even then eh)

Rogan is not a great podcast to listen to consistently. Episodes are too long and Joe is often very uninformed. The best JRE episodes are with comedians and/or Alex Jones imo.
Some of the ones posted that Ive listened to in the past

Athletic Football Show
Hardcore History
Dan Le Batard
The Board 8 ones

I think I listened to one of the Scrubs ones but I will probably go with one that was my favorite episode, trying to think what it was did they get to my screw up yet?

Yep, they've done that one. I think they got Brendan Fraser on to talk about it, actually. Haven't gotten to My Lunch yet (which is my personal favorite), but it's coming up soonish.

I think sometimes they goof off too much and don't actually talk about the show enough, but Zach and Donald are great together regardless.

Gaming: Arlocast

This thing just started, but it's by Arlo (the Nintendo YouTube guy who plays a muppet in his videos) and rarely have I fallen in love with a podcast so quickly. It's ridiculously good, mainly because of the really, really cool collection of video game YouTubers he's had on (mostly Nintendo related) chatting with each other. He's had absurdly awesome combos, like Scott the Woz and Jon Cartwright from GameXplain/Nintendo Life together. If you keep up with any gaming YouTubers, I think you'll enjoy it.

I keep up with a few weekly gaming podcasts too, namely Easy Allies and MinnMax, but I don't think either of those are at their prime. Easy Allies lost Kyle Bosman, who was my favorite of the whole crew, and MinnMax's current lineup in the main podcast isn't as strong as it once was. Their side content (check out Trivia Tower and The Deepest Dive) is absolutely awesome though.

I never got too sucked into podcasts, but A History of Italy was fun for the time I was listening to it.

A History of Italy: A weekly podcast in 15/20 minute episodes on the history of the Italian peninsula from the fall of the Western Roman Empire to the present day.

Aside from the facts, there are some acted-out sketches to illustrate the relationships between the historical figures which I found humorous, but YMMV.
Come on, John darling, they won't boo me.

Alright I picked the Ludwig the Vampire episode of Dead Rabbit and while it took about half the episode for him to get to talk about it I found it kinda neat to talk about the goofy urban legend about a dude who just drank human blood, liked the energy of the talker too.

Ill do some more later today, just tired

Blowback is a podcast that started just as a history of the Iraq War and after its success has expanded to now be about bullshit American interference across the world, season 2 is on Bay of Pigs

Citations Needed is about false and misleading media, PR, and political narratives. An episode I like to recommend is Episode 31: Fake ISIS Plots and the Selling of Forever War. Other standouts to me: 8, 19, 54, 65, 91, 112, 135. There are also many non-numbered shorter episodes that tend to be about current (at the time) events
Revisionist history
No One Can Know About This - an audio lets play wherein two guys play every Final Fantasy game. Theyre on their sixth season right now, having played I, IV, VI, VII, II, and currently in disc 3 of VIII. They record the entire process - from the trip to the store to get the game (up until VIII theyd only played physical copies of the original release) to the meals eaten before and during a session - and then edit it down into episodes with commentary from their future selves added in.
Gastropod - science & history of food
99 Percent Invisible - primarily architecture / urban design behind our everyday lives, but sometimes explores other topics (ex: recent episode about the real book, which was very influential in jazz)
Switched on Pop - music people talk pop music
The Magnus Archives - British horror show that starts episodic but gains a narrative arc, not so much spooky as just weird, freaky, and unsettling

Escape This Podcast - A bit like an actual play RPG podcast, except instead of playing D&D or something with rules, the host runs an imaginary escape room for the guest(s) to try and solve. The odd-numbered seasons consist of standalone rooms, while the even-numbered ones connect all the rooms in that season in a story arc.

I mean the last one was so bad it had youtubers making 2 hour long videos about how much the McElroys suck now. The combination of "Graduation" tanking, the pandemic, Griffin having a new kid, and yahoo answers shutting down basically created intensely bad energy for a while, but I think they're coming out of it. Except for maybe Travis who really needs to get his life right.
