Maybe not by a ton, they both have some of the same problems, but the combat is SO MUCH MORE engaging and fun in MHS2. I've never played a Monster Hunter before this one and I'm totally in love with collecting all the Monsters and fighting alongside them, as well as crafting and upgrading the various gear.

I say this as someone who has over 200 hours into Sw/Sh, but I've enjoyed my first 40 hours of MHS2 a lot more than I did the main game of Sw/Sh. It's kind of amazing to me how little hype I've seen around MHS2. Every time I've searched Board 8 for a topic about it, nothing comes back!

Someone here get this for Switch so we can do co-op missions together!

It's absolutely on my to-buy list, but it came out too close to NEO:TWEWY so I knew I wouldn't finish it before I'd have to drop it. It might be my next purchase when I'm done, though.
Change is weird.
I kind of dropped the first about half way through. How much better is it than the first?
It's way better, and I did actually like Sword unlike a lot of people. I'm also a huge Monster Hunter fan who liked the first game though

I plan to get it sometime this year, but, yeah, its release timing was unfortunately too close to Great Ace Attorney.

Is the combat different than the first game? The rock-paper-scissors stuff kinda bored me to tears.

Really? I find it really engaging, and having to predict what the opponents going to do when they switch their state along with matching elemental attacks and damage types is really fun for me.

I never played the first. Actually never played a single Monster Hunter before this.

They made the Rock Paper Scissors stuff more consistent than it was in the first game where it was more random, it feels pretty good now.
That's good to hear.

Do you need to play the first one or is the second pretty self-contained?
