Yeast is consistently better than cake and I will always choose it, but the best donut I've ever had is a cake donut.

i was a big time YEASTER (favorite: boston cream) until i worked at a coffee/donut shop in high school. after smelling that every day my brain just kind of decided it had had enough

cake donuts alongside something to drink are where it's at

Glazed donuts are usually yeast, so I went with that. It takes nothing away from cake donuts.

Im not sure honestly. The best donuts Ive ever had are fried from a local place and I have no idea if theyre cake or yeast. Theyre incredible though.

Cake is easier to make unique variations, but I'll usually choose yeast almost every time

And Yeast. I not once given it thought though that there was a real difference between why some were fluffy and others weren't. It's a donut, just always figured people made them different and never cared enough to know the reason.

While I may not have known that one was yeast, its pretty obvious that theres a major difference in the consistency between the two. Putting a name to it doesnt change anything.

I didn't know the exact difference between the two at first but I did know cake donuts as "those yucky donuts to avoid"

The difference is pretty clear and it's not just texture

I had to look up the difference. Apparently yeast are more likely to be used for filled doughnuts. Seeing as filled ones are my fave, had to go that one.

I didn't know the names but I knew there was a difference

The old style "fairground" donuts are cake ones, I guess, and while I always think they smell and taste amazing they get sickly fast. The place near me that sells them were selling 8 small ones at a time and I had to ask to only give me 4.

Meanwhile I love jam-filled ones which are apparently yeast? So that?

You can tell the difference pretty easily if you eat one then the other.

Cake donuts are more consistent of cake. Dense, spongy, etc.

Yeast is what your typical glazed donut is. Light, airy like a yeast roll
