Was posted in the World Cup topic, but yeah deserves its own thread.

Was literally the best football player ever before Lionel Messi went full swing. Could have easily won 5-6 Ballon d'ors for himself had voting allowed for non-europeans to compete for it back then.

For sure

I've said before that I think World Cups are overrated as a decider of who the "goat" is (Messi was the goat with or without winning it imo) but that doesn't make winning the world cup 3 times out of 4 anything less than insane.

Its tragic indeed, even if it wasn't out of the blue.

I think they said he would have won 7 Ballon D'ors though obviously it comes with some uncertainty.

The more players in the starting line up the less championships should matter to GOAT discussions. That's my belief anyway.
