The bottom of the 4 buttons
The left of the 4 buttons
The top of the 4 buttons
Between Z and C on the Keyboard

Was just thinking X is probably the most commonly used button in games but each developer has their own way to do it. Where do you visualize X?

Cant think of a system that uses it on the right tbh

Gamecube controller has it on the right which was my first thought video game-wise since I used to play Smash competitively.

Really though since I'm reading this on a website on a computer I just automatically assume it's about the X key on the keyboard.

I didn't do guru this year but azuarc can be in my sig anyways.

It's funny, despite how little I've played on Sony consoles in the last decade, I still thought of X as the bottom button. My PS1/2 days were apparently quite formative.

Gamecube controller is a pretty big omission here.

I thought of Switch since that's all I've played in the past year, even though I don't specifically know WHERE the buttons are and just know what they do in games (had to check my Joycons next to me).

Not that I actually thought of it before SNES/playstation. I did think of it before Gamecube, though, despite playing a ton of Melee. I always used Y to jump in that.

Only tangentially related but I hate how every controller is different these days. You tell a friend "press B" and they just hit you with a blank stare. "Playstation X" *still blank stare* "Xbox A" "Ohhhhhhhh"

Anyway X is bottom for me, even though I don't play Sony consoles that much it feels more consistent there than wherever Nintendo has decided to move it to

Bug Fables shows the PS X with a blue background, which is a nightmare for this effect.

I was surprised when asked this to realize that the Xbox layout (X on left) has finally supplanted the SNES layout (X on top) for me in my instictive reaction. My first gut feeling was X on left and that hasn't been true until now.

I have no formative memories of the Playstation layout, so I couldn't have even told you where X was on a PS controller without thinking about it pretty hard.
