How far back?

This topic brought to you by me beating Trails SC after about a 5 year play through

(At least everything was really easy to remember and the final chapter was given plenty of depth)

Why would I go back to a game I didn't like enough to finish it in the first place?

These. I can and have gone back and finished an abandoned Pokemon playthrough after well over a decade. Something that has more complicated gameplay, or has a more cinematic story, or something that I maybe only got like 25% through and is fairly short anyway, I'll usually restart.

Games beaten in 2023 - 2; Most recent - Pokemon Legends: Arceus
I'd like to try to beat every game I start, and I pretty much never restart (unless if I lose the save file, or start it on a different system or what have you).

a while back I finished Super Robot Wars 3 after playing it off and on for probably about 14 years.
The only certain death in the universe is Mother Hitton's Littul Kittons.
Not changing this line until I beat Seven Heroes (2/24/07) - Fulfilled 2/20/18
10+ and it was more of a fresh file restart. Hello, Kingdom Hearts!

that's explicitly the opposite of what we're saying here!
Born to bear and bring to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see
Abanadoned AC Oddyssey when Pokemon SV came out (about 3 months) (and because it sucks)
Just came back to it and i'm like....yeah what was the story about? who are these characters again? I am not sure I can assign a face to each name I hear :|

Regardless I am not a fan of continuing a abandoned play through - I prefer just starting again.
I probably quit Twilight Princess like 4 times because I lost interest near the end, and each time I started again just to lose interest at the end all over again
I swore that the next time I try I will NOT abandon it again

I got stuck in Donkey Kong for the Game Boy and decided to go back to it roughly 15 years later to finally beat it.

Meh. Still counts for older stuff, like 100%ing my Gamecube SSX Tricky save a few years ago.

These days I just try to tough it out where I am unless I didn't get far. In the past I would have started over though.

Yeah this is where I am.

Ive restarted The Witcher 3 like 70 hours in three times because a new game comes out and I get busy, but the amount of games I have time to play is so low rn that Im trying to stop that.

Currently playing through FE Three Houses, on the same file I started close to when the game came out. There's older games where I'd like to eventually pick up where I left off and finish eventually.

In some cases I start a game, but then another game comes out that I'd rather play, but I do often go back.

Is that the only conceivable situation where you would stop playing a game?

Even then, sometimes you start playing a game and discover you aren't in the mood for it. I started Infamous 2 right after playing through the first Infamous, and discovered that I needed a break. Came back to it after 2 years and really enjoyed it.
to me hero's is just bad person
If it's been more than a week or two I'm more likely to start over
I didn't do guru this year but azuarc can be in my sig anyways.
I voted 5-10 because I think that is the range in which I have done it, but 10+ wouldn't be out of the question if I remember whats going on.

I stopped playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 for like 5 years before finally going back to finish it and realizing I was on the last level and like an hour from being done and hadn't realized it.

there are usually once a month or so that I just mess around with a random game for a little bit just to see if I like it. Plenty of games require a pretty big investment in time. Some I get back to a little while (within a few months) some not so much.

I guess this question applies to cleanup too, especially for games that have a long postgame like a Yakuza or some open world games with a lot of activities (AC Origins was one that came to mind here)

another part is just having real life circumstances that happen that prevent my mind from focusing on whatever game I wanted to play. Was extremely busy from late 19 to early 22 and had to drop a few games, now slowly catching up!
