I remember when I learned that the "chlorine smell" of pools is actually the smell of choloramines, which are created when perspiration or urine combine with chlorine. So that distinctive smell of pools is caused by pool water being contaminated with piss and sweat.
This isnt true though, my old roommate worked at a pool supply store and the entire place smells like chlorine.If you want to find out for sure, mix bleach and ammonia and see what that smells like. It should also produce chloroamines
