Back in May, I asked what your first impressions of TOTK were vs. BOTW (/80442289). Now that things have set in, it's time to go back and see how that initial thought has held up.

Merged two options that got 0 votes last time so I could add a backlog one. But this should still cover everything. (Let me know if it doesn't.)

I think TotK is absolutely way better, so I picked option 2.

Both are really good. ToTK is better.
while you slept, the world changed
TotK is better, but it also doesn't hit as hard as BotW did. I think it's ultimately a little too much of the same.

This is basically where I'm at. TotK isn't as fresh as BotW but it's in most ways an objectively better game because it was able to build on and learn a bunch of lessons from its predecessor. It also plays with your expectations a bit if you've played BotW, so that's also pretty neat. I don't think it "obsoletes" BotW though because the base powers are different between the two.

They're the two best 3D Zeldas.
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.
As of now I still prefer BotW. It was such a fresh change of pace and felt like what a 3D Zelda was always meant to be.

TotK feels too bloated as most open world games do. The first game seemed to have better balance to me. But I haven't played enough of the sequel to really say. I'm still in the disappointment phase. Eventually I'll get back to it and probably end up liking it a lot more.
I don't kill... but I don't lose either.
really wanted to like botw, hated it, never finished

was told to at least try totk, hated it, never finished

This

If BotW didnt exist TotK would probably be in the battle for best game of all time.

Instead its hard to to really place.

I need to jump back into TotK.

Have we had a straight-up two option poll yet about if people prefer BotW or TotK? It feels like we have variation-polls like this for the nuance but not really had a two-option head-to-head poll yet to see the general divide when compared against each other...or maybe I missed it.

TotK makes BotW look like a proof of concept IMO - it wonderfully addresses all of the complaints I have with its predecessor and feels like a true triumph of a game. That said, it was a monstrous romp and I don't ever want to see another Zelda in exactly this structure again.

Feel pretty similarly. It's got a very "checklist" style to it that I'm not super fond of.

I also am not super into the building like some people are, so I think some of the fun there is lost on me

Still the number one reason for the success of the Internet.
