Just finished Lies of P, might be my 2nd favorite type of this game behind Sekiro. I don't really have anything negative to say about it!

Progress is slow. I've been pretty busy this week anyway but two of the bosses so far walled me for much longer than usual.

No, nose doesn't grow but there are moments where you can either lie or tell the truth and it affects the game.

The story is surprisingly pretty good. Much less obtuse than a Souls game.
skull
I have it ready and waiting to play on my PS5, just haven't had the time to play it yet. Probably won't for a while, but such is life.

I loved the demo but haven't had any time since release. I'll try to get some in this weekend

I played 2 hours and it was the weirdest feeling ever. It's EXACTLY dark souls, 2 mostly. Which is weird since you would think they would copy Bloodorne. The instant you start playing it feels like a mod of DS2, just with worse combat and level design.

I used to play a bunch of f2p copycat Korean games back in the day, and you can totally feel that vibe in this game. It's not bad necessarily, just a really weird thing to combine with dark souls.

he says listen to my story this maybe are last chance
There are parts about it that feel weird, especially how they lock some basic mechanics behind upgrades that rely on limited materials.

But I'm having a lot of fun, especially with the weapons.

I was already at the final boss when the patch hit so I didn't notice much of a change. I thought the difficult was already pretty easy though. Only one or two bosses took me more than 3 tries.

But most people online seem to have been frustrated by the difficulty. Maybe they're not parrying enough? IDK
skull
Not parrying successfully enough, maybe. It seems on the hard end of From, Nioh etc to me.
"God Hand is the ultimate expression of the joy of humanity, specifically the punching part of the joy of humanity."-Shigeru Miyamoto
Yeah parrying can be a little tricky but being able to recover your health from blocking makes things pretty easy too.

The only bosses I had issues with were ones who had status effects now that I'm thinking about it. There's a decay effect a few bosses have that constantly makes your weapon durability decrease so you have to find time to grind it back up.
skull
I think one issue is the linearity. Souls games usually give you some alternate paths to switch to if you're struggling. Then you can come back with more practice and strength. This generally doesn't. While the level designs are as one would hope, you're invariably proceeding from one Stargazer to the next in order. At least at the point I've gotten to.
"God Hand is the ultimate expression of the joy of humanity, specifically the punching part of the joy of humanity."-Shigeru Miyamoto
That's true, although this is maybe the only Souls type game I've played where I didn't need to spend time power leveling to get through a boss.

In all of the other games I've hit a wall where leveling felt like the only way to brute through a boss. That's a skill issue on my end but I think those games just were harder.

The one exception is Demon's Souls. That game was super easy in 2023, I think I died less than 5-10 times in the whole playthrough.
skull
Demon's Souls was easy to you? Now I'm impressed. But was that the original or remake?
I should clarify that I played DeS:R before the rest of that series or really anything else in the genre. I'm sure it would seem easier to me now, but I don't think I was alone in finding it hard.
"God Hand is the ultimate expression of the joy of humanity, specifically the punching part of the joy of humanity."-Shigeru Miyamoto
It was the remake so maybe they lowered the difficulty. But I was surprised at both how short and how easy it was compared to the other games. My final play time was only like 12 or 13 hours I think.

But yeah I'm sure it hit different back in 2009. This was like my 5th or 6th Souls game by the time I played.
skull
From a brief glance at what people have to say, Remake is pretty much the same other than some QoL changes and making World Tendency slightly less fucked.

Put in a few more hours. I can see where there were some difficulty spikes pre-patch.

I wish changing weapon setups was a little less clunky, but it's still a total blast and makes getting a new weapon a lot more exciting than it is in every souls game that isn't bloodborne.
~Peaf~
I've seen some streamers disassembling weapons and I'll mention that you don't need to do that if you've been doing it. You can just assemble new stuff and it will automatically disassemble a weapon if it has to.

I accidentally closed out of assembling a weapon without hitting the assemble button so many times.

How similar is this to Bloodborne? I just put 100 hours into that game (two runs through the game, one through the DLC, and a bunch of Chalice Dungeons, still gotta go beat the last one). A little worried I might be burned out if I play this, but it looks different enough that maybe not!

Also a Souls game with a more straightforward, comprehensible story? Sign me up!
Welcome to your Divinity.
The similarities are more in theme and aesthetic, since it's very much got the slower Souls combat with defending and stamina management.

Wew beat. Really great game! Can't wait for Oz sequel. Now to try getting the rest of the trophies. NG+ really ups the ergo gain.

Also as I feel it must be said regarding certain bosses... Fuck Simon second phase and the Green Monster in general.

Yeah I'd put the combat a little closer to Sekiro. It doesn't go full Sekiro but there's a good emphasis on perfect guards, skill tries, interchangeable robot arm, and special attacks for each weapon.
skull
I saw it more as a weird mix of bloodborne and sekiro (with the general atmosphere being more bloodborne). There's a sorta rally mechanic in there and the timed parries from Sekiro

Never played Sekiro, but this actually sounds pretty appealing. I wonder if getting good at parries here would make them more viable for me in other From Soft games. Was always bad at them (even in Bloodborne, which makes them quite easy with no real risk besides losing bullets).
Welcome to your Divinity.
Yeah, there's elements from all of those in there. It's rare that you see these games copied in the right ways, though. Makes me hope that the studio keeps making games of this type.

I like how NG+ actually unveils additional phases on the P-Organ. Gives more incentive to play more.

Sekiro is a very good game. You should actually go play that before LoP.

Also what are the major soulslikes? Lord of P, Blasphemous, Nioh, Salt and Sanctuary, Thymesia, Remnant. I know Im missing one or two.

Lords of the Fallen and Code Vein? There's also Mortal Shell too I suppose

Salt and Sacrifice, too! I haven't decided if I like it more than Salt and Sanctuary yet or not, but both are awesome.

I never played Lords of the Fallen but the sequel is coming in a week and looks pretty cool.

There's a whole system where you can switch between living realm and a dead realm or something on the fly.

October is too packed but maybe something to keep an eye on.

ok started it up, a couple hours in now

im impressed (?) by how shamelessly this is just a Souls game, down to stuff like the UI and a functional equivalent to the Crystal Lizards

although, they messed up the UI a little by not including the button that gives you explanations of what each stat means.

advance and motivity arent exactly usual stat terms that people will immediately understand (turns out theyre basically just strength and intelligence lol)

and even the level design! Im successfully predicting every dude hiding behind a corner because theyre exactly where From would put them.

got the p-organ. nice to see a mechanic that is totally distinct from souls stuff

I always enjoy a gimmicky skill tree

oh and I guess instead of the nose growing, I just feel stuff happening with my springs. Not as fun, but ok.

I feel super overpowered in this factory level. An electric club is pretty good when everything you fight is a robot. Having fun, though. I dig the vibe.

much like P, it turns out you lie (sort of)

found a portrait of P and gave it to Gepetto. A while later when I came back to the hotel, the portrait had developed a large wooden nose

Warning to anyone still playing: After you find Alidoro and send him to whatever location (maybe only if you send him to Venigni Works?) make sure you go there and talk to him. Eventually he disappears completely for story reasons, and you can normally find him in a bit. Well apparently if you're like me and you didn't go talk to him at Venigni Works, he just never comes back. So I can't get any more of the boss weapons/treasures
does anyone even read this
Hmm unless that's a bug I don't think that's correct but IDK. You might just need to wait a while before you see him again but you should run into him again I think.

But yeah just make your life easier and send him to the hotel when you run into him for the first time.
skull
He was supposed to be in the swamp but he never showed up. And he's not in Venigni Works or the hotel and I'm past the hotel being attacked

To be clear I'm saying it's a bug but still it does happen. At least one post on reddit also describing it happening

I think he should still appear right after the 2nd Black Rabbit Brotherhood fight . Minor boss spoilers there, nothing big.

finished last night with the Rise of P ending

yeah, that was a really good game. Im curious to see what they do with that ending tease.

Antipurge because I just started playing 3 days ago or so. At the cathedral now and this game is fantastic
Welcome to your Divinity.
I'm in the final chapter and am definitely planning on replaying.

There are a few quirks that are annoying, such as showing players something and then saying "oh you can't use this yet." Not like shortcuts, but game mechanic sort of things.

After playing for 15 hours, I'm probably too used to the controls now. Buuut if I wanted to change them so I don't have to crane hand while sprinting to move the camera, your suggested button remaps?
