I've seen topics before about songs that you thought were more recent, but I haven't seen any of those Mandela effect "Hey, I definitely heard that song years before it came out!" type topics.

Sting - "Brand New Day" Came out in 1999 and I really feel like I heard that in the early 90s.

Cascada - "Everytime We Touch" is from 2005. I was already a sophomore in high school and I swear I heard it in middle school or even late elementary.

Coldplay - "Viva La Vida" is from 2008. I was already out of high school and that doesn't make sense. I thought I was hearing this around the same time "Clocks" was out.

So I mean, there's nothing there like "I thought this was 20 years older than it actually is" but still kinda messes with me a bit.

Used to feel this way about 1985.

"Bordate is a pretty shady place, what with the gangs, casinos, evil corporations and water park." - FAHtastic
The one time I felt this, it turned out the song was as old as I thought.

The song Blue Monday, a cover came out around 1999, but I was like "this is an 80's song"

Turns out it was a cover of a New Order song and I couldn't find the original in my Joel Witburn book of hits because a. non appearing title and b. only a hit in Europe.

When I was younger I thought Rhapsody in Blue was written in the 1800s and was just way ahead of its time
azuarc wasn't even home. he was playing Magic the Gathering at his buddy's store, which is extremely easy to verify

Cascada is the same way for me, the first time I heard it (I can actually remember where I was) was around the time it came out, but even then it felt like an older song to me

I guess at some point I discovered Friday Im In Love is in an early 90s song and was surprised because The Cure is such an 80s band

At least Kupo has class and doesn't MESSAGE the people -Dr Pizza
I just found out in the past year that this song is NOT from the 70's/60's like I always assumed, and is actually from the late 80's and only became popular during the Gulf War.

I thought Cage the Elephant's Ain't No Rest for the Wicked was a cover of a song from the 70's for some reason if that counts.

Probably a pretty random example but when I first heard the song Bartender by Rehab, I thought for sure it was a 90s song and then I looked it up - 2008?!
I've decided to put my fears behind me. I'm not going back.

I used to think Frank Sinatra's song "I Did It My Way" came out in 1968. Turned out it was 1969. I was so embarrassed.

Somebody that I used to know. It mentions records, dammit. That tricked me big time.

Along this line, I thought for years that "All I Want for Christmas is You" was an older song and that the Mariah Carey version was just the most popular one.

yeah this can be part of it in some cases, our brains think in a weird way as if on December 31 1989 every band from that decade was executed and no longer exists

Oh yeah, I recently discovered this was a 90s song too and was surprised. Although it's different because there's no way I could misremember hearing it in the 80s.

For the longest time I thought that "All I Want" by Toad The Wet Sprocket was an 80s song, but it's from 1991.
This signature won't change until Chrono Trigger gets a re-release on a modern Nintendo console.
