Do you think Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a well-balanced game?

Considering the sheer number of characters I always felt like balancing it would be impossible, but it kind of feels like the impression I have is that the game is more well-balanced than expected, and better than even the rest of the series' track record.

There are tier-list winners and losers of course, but it does seem like a large portion of the cast is viable, and there aren't totally broken things in it. But I don't follow the scene too closely to know for sure how things actually are.
Okay, I rolled a 14. What's that mean? Hsu

I think it could definitely do with maybe one or two balance patches that actually address a few of the oppressive and quite frankly, broken characters.

In particular... Steve, Game&Watch and Sonic...?

I want to say Sonic is fine gameplay wise, but his optimal playstyle is incredibly toxic and really hurts viewership and popularity for the game.

It objectively is. Only like 3 character are unusable in competitive, and the best characters aren't unbeatable.
It's Reyn Time.
Based on what I've seen it might be one of the most impressively balanced fighting games ever, based on the size of the roster and the variance between characters, but I'm not really enough of an expert
I'm a casual player so yeah sure.

Last time I played (which was at least a year ago) none of these characters were considered high tier
while you slept, the world changed

People found out a bunch of new tech for Steve and now he has favorable matchups against 73 of the other 80 characters. And the vast majority of those favorable matchups he has are extremely favorable.

Sonic isn't the top tier, but his playstyle is absurd. His main goal is to get ahead a stock and proceed to camp out his opponent for the entire timer. It's so fucking boring to watch.

G&W is a new one, haven't seen that. I'd like to know what's up with that choice myself.

Yes, considerably more so than the other games in the series.

G&W has been considered high tier for quite some time. Just no one knew anybody that played him except Maister. Now there's a japanese player named Miya that is top 3 in the world iirc, beats everyone but Acola (the best Steve player) pretty consistently I think.
does anyone even read this
gaw just counters a lot of meta relevant chars like rob, sonic, does well into steve. hes a meta char more than a strictly 'op char'
Congrats Black Turtle !
That doesn't seem like a reason to want his nerf. I didn't see anyone calling for a Byleth nerf, just cuz MKLeo went off with them.

Is Steve worse than Meta Knight in Brawl?

The only thing of G&W I'd want to nerf is his Up-B.

That shit is bonkers.

The way Ermine describes it strikes me as pretty good given the size of the roster. It could be improved by a balance patch but I'm not holding my breath. Could really be improved by good rollback, but hell would have to freeze over.

The character I consider to be the worst (Game and Watch) is also considered one of the best by pro players
So I guess I suck at this and therefore my opinion is invalid
wololo
sonic is a great example of why time is bad and stock is good.

10 years later, and I still find myself revisiting this match from time to time. It's a neat little microcosm that perfectly encapsulates everything wrong with the Brawl meta.

Yes. Much more than Melee, for example.
azuarc wasn't even home. he was playing Magic the Gathering at his buddy's store, which is extremely easy to verify
I don't think steve is worse than MK was during the brawl heyday. IIRC MK was a result of an actual glitch involving his down b cape move that made him literally unhittable and unbeatable to the point he had to be banned from major tournaments. I've heard steve is degenerate with some of the trap setups he can do but it's not to the point of being literally a free win.
