What is Game of the Month Club Replay?

Game of the Month Replay is a community project based upon the Game of the Month Club. Much like the GOTM Club, it's open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a bonus chosen game every month. The three games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck).

The only catch is, it must be a game that the GOTM Club has already played, so it's an opportunity to replay games you may have missed out on the first time or just want to try again.

The Basics

- Each month will usually feature three games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each of the games you beat you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's game is usually on the 25th
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules

- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You receive additional nominations each month for beating one of the featured games
- Each game you nominate has to be one that was already nominated for the GOTM Club.
- You can nominate games that have already been selected for the Replay Topic, but not the same game twice in a row.
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a featured game after the drawing for next month's game but before the end of the month
- You have 9 supports you can use throughout the year. Your only limitations are that you can't support your own nomination, and you can only use one support per game per month

Man...hope I have time for both LttP and Remember Me this month...

Started on Remember Me. About an hour in and it's a fairly generic third person action adventure game.

This one's been sitting in my Steam library for a while. It's relatively short (12 hours), hence why I gave it a nomination. Probably had the studio, Dontnod, on my mind after playing Jusant last month.

I'd heard some positive things said about the story iirc?

For the record I think I'd support this for a bit. I haven't had as much time for gaming the past few months, but I have also been struggling to nominate games to replay recently.

Two chapters (of apparently 8) down with Remember Me.

Continues to be a thoroughly mediocre playing game so far. Combat is so fucking whatever.

There was one memory sequence that involved rewinding time and picking glitches to alter someone's memories. In theory, interesting. In practice, the controls didn't seem to work very well on controller, so I had to use keyboard/mouse to do it.

The story isn't anything great so far either. There's just been the seemingly obvious point that the person in your ear is probably not a great person and might be using you.

Took a break from Remember Me to play Mario RPG. Should get back to it soon.

KCF has beaten Minit

All three modes in fact for the third or fourth time! I've run out of versions to do fresh playthroughs of now. I don't know if this project is going on hiatus/being disbanded, so I'm going to refrain from nominating for now.

I'm about halfway through Remember Me now. Thoughts have not changed.

Yeah, this is nothing more than a mediocre game. Combat is uninteresting. Platforming and movement is bland. Story is...okay? Some interesting ideas but considering I literally just watched Severance like a week ago, well, that's a better story dealing with memories.

Not sure I'll get around to Zelda, and since this Club is going away, well, not a lot of impetus...

While I was thinking of having this go on break, I was considering doing a Seasonal Game Club while this topic went on hiatus.

Concept; Some games just weren't made to be beaten in a month, they're long. Really long. While the Game of the Month Club is great for many games, it's maybe not long enough for say, Persona 5 Royal. So anyone who wants could use their nominations this month to nominate and let us choose three games that will be be the Games of the Season. I'd say that three months is a better amount of time to finish a Persona game... Although in the spirit of giving people enough time to finish mammoth games I'd even say finishing the month after was good enough for a point but not good enough for a bonus vote.\

It could be worth trying, but for me personally, I just don't play many games that would qualify. I should have some that qualify, but who knows if I would be the only one to play them. I do worry that will overwhelmingly be the case for everyone. They and they alone will play their selected game.

I've got a huge stack of 30+ hour games.

Yeah, I like the idea in theory but this is very likely what would happen. See recently Mass Effect Trilogy and Xenoblade Chronicles in the main GotM topic. Its a lot of time to invest if youre not fully committed to a game. Its why I dont want to nominate something like FF15, even though I intend to hopefully play it this winter.

I think Ive said this before but Id rather the main GotM be a little more flexible if a longer game is selected. Something like 0-20 hours - 1 month, 21-40 hours - 2 months, 41+ hours - 3 months. And if theres a multi month game then its just the extra 4th game for those months.

Totally understand. Dont mess with success and all that.

Kenri is the only person here that I am friends with on other stuff (Steam and a backlog site called Backloggery), so I looked at those and came up with some noms of shared unbeaten games if you do end up going through with this.

I think I'm going to, even if it's not as popular. Because the Game of the Month Club is fun, but I really need incentive to play my longer games too.

I'll try to start as early in January as possible, so nominate a game each to get it started; and if you finished a game this month I'll let you support another.

Yeah, if desired I can put both in and reroll the second one if you get a second one picked so only one of your games is chosen max

Yeah, I don't intend to be super particular especially if it's clearly an RPG. I'm hoping that just having one nom this first time will make more people able to have their game available for play in this test run.

Giving my two cents, I do think this is worth a try as a change of pace. I'll echo the concern that participation could be limited to aa user's own game essentially, but if you're willing to host it I'm down. I too have a backlog of lengthy games.

Unfortunately, it's one game per person nominated just this one time, so you can choose which of the two games you'd rather have as your game Seanchan. I'll make the topic as soon as you choose but everyone can start playing now as Winter 2024 has already begun. The basic rule is; finish in Winter 2024 in order to get a bonus nomination for the Spring 2024 topic. However, in this very long game version, you can also get a point for finishing in Spring 2024 if you started a game in Winter 2024. The goal is to have everyone who really wants to get those points and not feel stressed by their very very long games. :)

Fae Tactics is currently 5.99 on Stream. I will attempt that and P5R. I wanted the bonus content before I played P5T.

My choice is FF15. Finally time to get around to that one!
