PaulG235 | Finished in the Top 2 of GotD2010's Second Chance Bracket
Sadly, there are no second chances in the Guru, azuarc doesn't need one.

Godzilla winning was so satisfying.

I saw Boy and the Heron won and then I saw RDJ's speech and that was enough for me
while you slept, the world changed
GMO winning was priceless, seeing the golden Godzilla statue was fun, and knowing they won the Japanese version of the Academy Awards a few days ago - those guys have had a busy week. Seeing Abe's photo was touching.

wtf with the Boomer whining about people filming on digital, only to film stuff on his camera during the best picture acceptance. dumbass

I was sorta pulling for Lilly on Best Actress but whatevs.

It won everything it had a chance at!

and youre still right!

Anyway its nice to see an oscars where the reaction seems to be pretty positive across the board, despite some major upsets (Emma, Heron, Zone winning Sound). Seems like they got it right and put on a good show despite some meh hosting.

Jonathan Glazers speech was excellent.

I somehow found myself watching 5 of the 10 Best Picture nominees this year. Of those, my ordering would be:

Poor Things > Past Lives > Oppenheimer > Barbie > Killers of the Flower Moon

Poor Things was a fucking wild movie. Whatever ads and previews I saw on TV did not give away (to me at least) what that movie was truly about.

Past Lives surprised me quite a bit. It's a movie of quiet, silence, and unspoken things. I could see many finding it to be boring and slow, yet I oddly enjoyed it very much.

Oppenheimer was good but wasn't a real favorite of mine.

Barbie was much more subversive than I expected. Absolutely not a movie for kids. Mostly enjoyable, with Ryan Gosling being the standout.

I didn't really enjoy Killers of the Flower Moon. Lots of big names giving good performances but I didn't enjoy the plot. I just spent the entire movie waiting for DeNiro's character to get his comeuppance.

Not sure why it didn't have a chance at Adapted Screenplay

American Fiction too strong. Lowkey it won every precursor, which very few winners did. The only real shots at dethroning it were either Oppenheimer pulling a surprise sweep or Barbie having been underestimated because so many precursors had it in Original Screenplay. But Poor Things would have been my vote!

That makes it sound like people only voted for it because it won previous awards...
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.
Well its two things:

1) The voting bodies of the precursors overlap heavily with the oscars, so its a lot of the same people voting.

2) It is a well known psychological phenomenon that people are more likely to vote for something if they think it can win, and the oscars are no exception.

Of course the latter isnt set in stone (hah) as we did see multiple upsets, but none as big as that one.
