What four games are on the Mario Games Mount Rushmore?

Yeah, 2-D Mario wasn't "dead."

If it was actually dead, NSMB wouldn't have revived it because it wasn't good enough to do that.

This is an absolutely wild take. Are we just pretending that the first two NSMB games werent widely acclaimed by critics and the general audience now.

Because nobody cares, Sean

Nobody cares

And nobody has to ask for ports of the big four because they get ported to every Nintendo thing now

I mean the massive success of U Deluxe would disprove this. A Wii remaster would do extremely well on Switch. There is a lot of love for New Super Mario Bros Wii out there.

As for Final Fantasy, its a very different situation for that series but one that does highlight the value of breakout games like New Super Mario Bros Wii. The fact is FF is a series that has heavily declined. Its been hard carried by the MMOs for years. Even 7R only (partially) turned the series fortunes around critically , the broader brand picture is still one of decline. I dont know if its bern discussed in the Rebirth topic because Im not going in there until I finish it, but the early Rebirth sales data is not good. The series simply failed to stay in the public consciousness when the gaming audience was expanding and got lost in the shuffle (and the Playstation exclusivity isnt helping).

Which is really what New Super Mario Bros Wii achieved. The fact is, Sunshine did not do what it was supposed to and it looked like Super Mario (ie the main series) was falling behind other Nintendo top dogs like Smash and Pokmon. The GBA ports also sold well but didnt do top flight numbers. Galaxy did better, but the attach rate wasnt great (I believe the worst for a first entry). It was New Super Mario Bros Wii that turned it around at a really pivotal moment in gaming history. And if you dont get that moment you wind up where FF is now, making some great games but clearly fallen from where you used to be.
I just decided to change this sig.
