I didnt realize they werent all already free to play, its stupid that they already werent, and this is not going to bring me back.

They were free on the battle pass so you had to grind them out or pay money to unlock them early. After the battle pass ended you could unlock them by playing a certain number of games.

So yeah they were already free but this is removing the grind of unlocking.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Overwatch 2 about 5 times so I think I'm done for good now. I pretty much only play Mystery Heroes anyway but I doubt I come back unless they make some major changes like revert to 6v6.

lol what a joke

They really fumbled what should have been a massive game, and the fact that everyone watched it happen for a few years and somehow Blizzard didn't is really impressive.

Oh yeah forgot to mention in the opening post (though it's in the Polygon article). But like skull said, it's already available for free if you don't mind waiting and grinding.

Only things it'll unlock for me are Rammatra, the Moana wannabe, and the healer that isnt Kiriko or Lifeweaver. I only play it in 5s when they're in a mood for it, and like WoW, nobody has been since Halloween.

I don't think you can pay for just a hero. You pay for a battle pass, which a hero is a part of.

Not that it matters. MTX becoming free later on happens all the time in games. The people who paid early get the privilege of having the MTX early.

I think you could buy heroes actually but anyone who did that should be embarrassed anyway since they're free to unlock.

Yeah, technically new heroes were already free, it's just you had to unlock them if you didn't want to buy the premium battle pass.

Because of that, in the long run this isn't that huge of a change.

Yeah this is them trying to overshadow the reporting from yesterday that the PvE stuff that they insisted a few months ago totally wasnt canceled actually is getting canceled

Yeah. This news is part of the announcement of what's coming for Sesson 10, which was promised ahead of time.

I hate the "they're offsetting scandals with good news" meme because it's so nonsensical. I don't get why it's harder to believe that there's simply a dev team that's at odds with company management, so you end up with bad and good things coming up in the news all the time.

Because in the past the timing has been impeccable.

I think this is just a sign that blizzard has scandals with startling regularity

their seasons are on a schedule, they cant really be deploying news as a response very often
