Day 2 (SNES): Yoshi's Island

Day 4 (Gameboy): TBD

For today, you must vote for a game that is exclusive to the GBC (not playable on the Gameboy). This legalizes Pokemon Crystal, but not Gold/Silver, etc.

My Vote: Guess I'm going Pokemon Crystal!

I've done this several times actually =/ But idk if it would be enough to vote for one when there are so many that have strong or unique features.

I'll think about this when I get home.

Dragon's Lair.

Looking into it further, it is a GBC exclusive so it shouldn't it have been eligible for last topic... but it fits here & I'm impressed enough about them getting an FMV game to run on the hardware that I'll support it.

Wario Land 3 looked crisp.

gbc exclusive...

admittedly not an area i've thought as much about as others so i'm going to do some cheating this time and actually look into a few

(one research later)

gonna go with
Chee-Chai Alien
largely for its experimental infrared-based features that ironically make it too "advanced" for the GBA. add on rumble support too and i feel it has a respectable enough case here

The earliest instance of this in my life was Wario Land 2, which I randomly discovered on Nintendo's old website browsing the list of games. (It was actually a color-enhanced GB game, but I didn't know the difference at the time, so to me it was a GBC game) I was completely struck by how nice the game looked and it made want to buy it, even though I knew nothing about the gameplay or the character (didn't even know who Wario was or that he was connected to Mario). And I did buy it, and I'm so glad that I did, all because of the graphics.

Conker's Pocket Tales is another game that always caught my eye when seeing it in Nintendo Power (even though the actual game wasn't very good, as I found out later in life).

The most recent time was when I discovered (and played) Alice in Wonderland last year. Observe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvY46q20i_U

The part in the intro level where you walk "through" the flowers (layered sprites on top of your character) is mindblowing, because despite being a simple trick, games simply weren't doing that at the time. So it looks really advanced, relatively. Also all of the backgrounds are extremely detailed and the cutscenes look great. I love the animation at 3:35 in this video.

(Also, coincidence that they posted this video 2 weeks after I started speedrunning this game and uploaded a few runs to Youtube? )

As far as the topic at hand, Pokemon Crystal is the obvious response, but Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble has to count for something. Zelda Oracles have an unprecedented amount of connectivity with each other and also have exclusive GBA content to top it off. Dance Dance Revolution had that handheld dance pad (is that cheating?).

Wait I just realized that we should have voted for Game Boy Camera for yesterday's topic, fuck.

Nah I'd still put Pokmon RBY over it tbh
azuarc wasn't even home. he was playing Magic the Gathering at his buddy's store, which is extremely easy to verify
Shantae is a good shout imo, or last year's Grimace's Birthday. All the stuff they managed to get on GSC is impressive.

But I'm going for Perfect Dark.
How paralyzingly dull, boring and tedious!

Put my vote towards Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble since Crystal is gonna win anyway.

Resident Evil, although I'm not sure it counts as it wasn't released. But impressive what they did with it
Well done to azuarc for finishing 67 places above me in the 2020 GOTD Guru Contest!

Initially, I would have banned unreleased games, but because everyone was pro-Star Fox 2, I relaxed the rules, so unreleased are fine, as long as they were made by a real company at the time and not some indie weirdo twenty-five years later doing things as a joke.

Definitely voting Resident Evil
