My Vote: Gonna go with Metroid Prime Hunters , but feel free to change my mind. Didn't "DS" originally stand for something else, but everyone just called it the Dual Screen, and Nintendo just rolled with it?

Developer's Select I believe, but yeah.

I'm inclined to agree with Metroid Prime Hunters but I'll wait to see if anything else comes up. It's got a huge library with some pretty impressive games. Some others that jump to mind: Disgaea DS, Super Mario 64 DS, LoZ: Phantom Hourglass, Okamiden.

Metroid Prime Hunters is a solid choice. I'm gonna through a wild card out though and go with C.O.P. The Recruit which is a full-3D GTA-style game that is incredibly impressive:

especially since it was so soon into the system's life. i never played it, but my DS came with a multiplayer demo for it, and it was insane

I'm struggling to think of something else that is not just impressive but technically impressive. maybe ghost trick retaining a unique and fluid visual style the whole game? but there has to be something more baffling given the hardware. was spirit tracks impressive?

I was also considering Scribblenauts, which was very impressive in ways that didn't relate to graphics.

Dementium II , though I think that GTA Chinatown Wars and SM64DS are also great picks

I was going to say "it wasn't THAT early" but I checked and apparently the DS, and Hunters, both came out in 2004?? Wow, time really did flow differently back then.

I think it's (late) 2004 for DS and 2006 for hunters, google's probably fucking with one of us

edit: i'm pretty sure in 2004 when i was 12 I was just endlessly replaying tales of symphonia for the next few years so i'm moderately confident i was late to the DS party

Turns out it's GameFAQs categorizing it by when the demo released. Truly a well-designed and expertly maintained webbed site.

I feel less insane now though so thanks!

Metroid Prime Hunters was first revealed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2004,[25] with IGN giving the game their Best Nintendo DS Game of E3 award.[26] When Nintendo received negative feedback at E3 2005 about the game's lack of an online feature,[4] the company announced in August that the game's release was delayed to give the developers time to implement Nintendo WFC support.[27] After the game's release was delayed to give NST time to implement the multiplayer feature, the developers took the time to make more changes.

That explains a lot

I have to think about this one. Hunters was very impressive but is early on. That Wizard of Oz game looks crazy, basically like a 3DS game. My instinct is to say Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for similar reasons to Chain of Memories. It had multiple FMV cutscenes, this time with full VO, and the 3D graphics and sound were very impressive for the system. If I remember correctly they had an extra large cart just for that game. However, I never played or even saw much of Re:Coded, is that more impressive than Days is?

I don't feel confident in saying this one at all, but Solatorobo is probably the game in my catalogue that impresses me the most since it's quite a big game with solid graphics and several gameplay systems (the fact that it just casually fit in an entire multiplayer racing game on the side for instance is something I just find neat). Plus it's practically (actually literally) two games worth of story (not that that strictly means much)

i do think that all the other options so far are around the same ballpark as it to be fair and could be persuaded to switch
(obviously it'd be enough to compensate for the fact that solatorobo managed to have more racing game in it than a good deal of the actual racing games on the system though lol, otherwise i'd have been considering stuff like mkds or sonic&sega)

Okay, after looking at some videos I am satisfied that Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded is building on what 358/2 Days was doing technically so gets my vote.
