Is it the best one ever though
NES
PS2
Switch
The above three are close to locks personally. Furth one's more interesting though. Atari, Genesis, Wii, 360...hmmmm. I'll say.....
360
PS1 vs. N64 wasn't close. The PS1 sold around 100 million and the N64 sold around 30-35 million.
Not surprising to not see one single mention of any 8th gen console.many people are mentioning Switch
Wii was shitYeah that's about right
but it changed the trajectory of gaming forever
NES
SNES
PS2
Nintendo Switch
NES saved home gaming.
SNES is one of the greatest consoles of all time
PS2 sold more than everything else.
Switch has sold very well and was the first hybrid console/handheld.
I feel like the Wii belongs because it turned gaming from something for gamers, to something for everyone.
Im just saying, SNES is the nostalgia pick for you guys. Lets not pretend otherwise. The 90s dont necessarily need a rep unless youre trying to represent every single decade.
NES
SNES
Sega Genesis
PS2
90s were important formative times for console gaming being something that wasn't super nicheSure but the Wii did that significantly more and you aren't voting for it
2600
NES
PS2
XBox
EDIT: No idea what happened with the formatting. I swear it was normal until I posted.
Honestly, a good argument for the N64 is that it probably has the highest concentration of good games of any major console with their entire libraries taken into accountThat title goes to the Neo Geo, which I could make a case for the Rushmore
PS2it's bizarro me
PS3
PS1
PS4
Yep
Fuck it
Sure but the Wii did that significantly more and you aren't voting for it
For all this talk of the Wii making video games less niche, it still didn't outsell the PS2 or even PS1, so it can't have brought that many new players in, and most people who weren't gamers and bought Wii Fit or whatever probably didn't stick around. You gotta look at attach rates. The Wiis top 7 games all outsold every game on PS2. In terms of selling games it was unmatched til the Switch.

The Yankees fucking lost. Please consider this when making your Rushmores. Thank you
Like yeah, the Wii was the console for people who didn't play video games before and haven't played them since, so I guess it's unique in that regardSure if the Switch didnt exist youd have an argument but it does, and explicit successors to that sort of stuff on Wii like Nintendo Switch Sports and Ring Fit Adventures have done quite well.
Switch got more people into gaming tbh. Covid came, and basically everyone was like "Fuck it, let's Animal Crossing"
