I enjoyed both of the Dune movies but I never read the books and this looks like a step too far for me to watch.

Note that this show is based on the post-Frank Herbert books which are deuterocanon at best.

Aside from the obvious "Game of Thrones spinoff" energy the immediate vibe I get is that this is made to put all the lore infodumping that Villeneuve (rightfully!) declined to bother explaining in the movies.
