G2-5 scoresexactly the same as G2-4, which makes a lot of sense. People enjoyed the trial, especially all the way to finding the killer. The Dance of Deduction and the Professor Killings were the highlights. Many felt the ending was lackluster, as well as many things surrounding the big bad of the series. Many pointed out the irony of the title, as Naruhodo doesn't do much in this case. As a result, several also felt that this leads to GAA2 feeling kind of ehh, despite its overall high quality.

Everyone is here! I split characters into Major Characters, Minor Characters, and Final Characters. Major characters get their own day, while minor characters are all packed in one day by case. Some cases will be combined due to having a tiny character list.

Each character will show up in order of their debut case, with major characters being done first. If a character has a cameo in an early case, I wait until they have a more full case before going over them (such as Susato skipping G1-1 for her G1-2 appearance).

Final characters will be the final day. It will have all background characters (like Deid Mann), all mascots (like Charley), all animals (like Polly), and all jurors (like Quinby Altamont). Itll be a pretty big post.

The rules are generally going to be the same. Some character-specific rules are that you should consider their appearance throughout the entire series (as youre aware of) and you may skip any characters on the minor character days. Since some of these characters are in multiple games, I will use spoiler tags.

Since the character list is massive, results will only show each previous days character plus two above and two below. After each game, Ill go over general results in this topic (like top 5 witnesses, bottom 5 witnesses, etc.)

If anyone has any suggestions or would be more comfortable with moving any of these characters around (from Final to Minor or Minor to Major), Im open to that.

Larry Butz should be considered a major character, IMO.

There are a few other borderline cases (Wendy Oldbag, for instance) but Larry is the one that immediately stood out to me as "should get his own day."

Winston Payne might honestly warrant being called a major character, but you've been amazing running these topics.

Larry could warrant being a major character but having him fill out 1-1 makes sense too.

IMO I would put Polly and Ora with their respective cases though, they're animals with a major story role so they shouldn't be granted less dignity.

I'd put Quinby Altamont with G2-2 too, she's a juror but she's kind of a more major one. Maybe Olive Green should go in G2-2 too? Talking about her is just going to be talking about G2-2. I guess that's a spoiler but idk, spoilers seem unavoidable there.

I think Darklaw should just be included with the L-4 group. I'm not sure Barnham needs his own day either if Espella isn't getting one, even though he's obviously much more popular.

I wonder what's the minimum number of appearances to be considered a major character? Because Larry is in 7 cases (1-1, 1-4, 3-2, 3-5, E1-5, E2-3, and 6-6).

And yeah, Espella should get her own day if you're giving Darklaw and Barnham one.

Looking forward to doing the character rankings! It was fun ranking cases. A blast going through Investigations 2 in Real Time. Apparently I won't shut up about these games because now my girlfriend is playing through them too.

These all seem reasonable.

I got major characters by including anyone that fits any of these roles: Defense, Rival, Assistant, or Detective. I added The Judge, removed the Paynes, and removed some of the more minor assistants (Grossberg, Maggey, Teneiro). Doing it by # of appearances leads to some weird circumstances, since AA loves their cameos. Here's the minor characters that show up in at least 3 separate cases in the series (this is counting sprites-only):

Larry is sort of in a class of his own. I don't think there's any other character in the entire franchise whose frequency of appearances and role are similar to his. Every other character with that many appearances is someone who plays a specific role that they fulfill - lawyer, sidekick, detective, etc - they're in a lot of cases because of their job. Larry is just a guy who shows up sometimes but he shows up sometimes WAY MORE than anyone else does in the grand scheme of things. Like, here's all the characters by number of games they appear in (excluding cameos, has to be at least one full scene with them)

Heh, I remember at one point people saying the third cases were the bad ones, and now look how it's done after 11 games! It seems the developers (and the writers) took to issue to heart after the first four or five games...

Wouldn't it be great if Capcom released a collection of the best cases from all the games, all wrapped into one remaster? Like, put the top ten from this topic all into one game.... (tell me it's okay to play a case in isolation...obviously such a collection shouldn't be for those new to the series)

Holy crap, an 8.1 average rating for T&T? That's crazy!

It would be great if Capcom released AAI1 and AAI2 in a collection and then every canon game in the series (sorry, Layton/AA) would be easily accessible on modern platforms

yeah i see your edit only one of these two is important enough to get a prominent profile shot on the front cover of the game and it ain't the journalist! hell, anyone important enough to be on the cover deserves to have their own day, surely!

The featured character list was tough! My goals are:

1. Pick characters that provoke discussion
2. Avoid spoilers or hints (dont always make the culprit the featured character)
3. With 50 case days, aim for a 25/25 split among men and women

Some of them getrough. I might have to abbreviate names like Aura and Dhurke. I might shift Shih-na to E1-4s slot alongside Badd too.

You have to play AA4 to get to the much better AA5 and AA6
