Match 3 also unfair, 1:12 in Deserted is one of my all-time favorite Namiki chord progressions

MATCH 1

Alternative Root has a really interesting atmosphere to it. Has this big exploration vibe to it. I especially like the melody of the mallet instrument, but the strings and choir definitely add to my enjoyment too. I like the first half of the song more than the second half.

Nocturnal 2097 is pretty neat too. Decent enough melody and solid energy with the electronic synths and beats. The electric guitar is a nice touch too.

MATCH 2

Not really a fan of Obstructor. The pad chords right before the loop point aren't bad though.

Also not really a fan of Badlands. I kinda like the "you are engaged in unauthorized" bit though. There are better Einhander songs out there, though, in my eyes.

MATCH 3

Les Enfants du Paradis is very goofy. A denpa song for a denpa game. It's not really my kind of song musically, but it's kind of fun with its goofiness, so it works. Now, if you want peak goofiness, I'd suggest taking a listen to OMOSHIRO MUSIC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZBj03M_8RM) from the same game. Les Enfants du Paradis is not my preferred kind of song from SubaHibi, but it's fine.

Younger Brother and Elder Sister and... has some interesting melodic parts to it like at 0:13, but much of it isn't all that special to me.

I think I'm just in a stronger mood for ambience this year .... Nocturnal is also a good tune, I wouldn't mind it taking the victory.

So some of y'all tricked me into listening to the entire Einhander ost because I really liked a few songs and it fucking worked you know who you are you bastards (affectionately) anyway this is one of the best ones. Tough draw for Obstructor which I also liked ...

I am charmed by the weirdness of the Subahibi song

hello best rhythm game song I love you so much. darksynth is legitimately one of my favorite genres and I never get to talk about it (half bc I've heard so little of it in the grand scheme of things, like honestly it's mostly Carpenter Brut and this lol) and this is my favorite darksynth song I've heard yet. absolute banger drops, killer guitars, yeah I love everything about this fucking song. so many bemani songs I've heard just don't work for me, but Dirty Androids has been a consistent exception

I like this trend of nominating Einhander songs nearly every year now. But Badlands is my least preferred of the 3 that have been in so far, and when you do this to the match... Yeah, RIP. It's fine if it wins though.

Les Enfants du Paradis started cool and I immediately had this thought of "please don't let vocals start and ruin this". But then they didn't and it stayed solid.

After years of trying, we finally got a RuneScape song into VGMC! (and imo the best one at that) Alternative Root was added into the game as one of the first new songs after the game changed its sound engine (to not just use the default Windows MIDI soundfont), and you can really tell that Mod Bond put everything he had into showcasing it with this piece. Nocturnal is probably the weakest song in today's pack, which just says a lot about how good everything is today.

Hmmmm Obstructor really sounds like something I've heard before oh wait it's the very song that it's up against today! It's good, but I feel the contest strength of "copycat Einhnder" is a lot stronger when its opponent isn't just literally Einhnder. Badlands takes this pretty easily, both good though.

Oh hi another one of my noms today. Y'know it was actually someone using Les Enfants in a VGMGG that finally convinced me to play through SubaHibi. Still a surprisingly close match here.

The start of Alternative Root is real nice. Feels kinda like Steins;Gate music. But then it never really changes for whatever reason. Nocturnal has that fun 80s electronic feel I love.

Obstructor's another one that starts good, but it's pretty short so it doesn't really go anywhere. Badlands, on the other hand, never stops throwing fun new shit at us. A blast to the end.

Enfants is probably not one of the top 10 Subahibi songs. Sad choice from the OST to get in. Deserted's pretty enjoyable. Gimme all the shmup music.

Match 1 is the hardest so far. Its impressive how Alternative Root feels so dark and moody using such minimalist synths. That one second of trailing beats (0:03-0:04) is doing work.

The warped echoing that comes in at Les Enfants du Paradis 0:42 makes me nervous, in a good way of course. Its like the songs cheeriness is a facade, that if you stare at it too long it collapses and reveals you were in a computer simulation the whole time.

alternative root was on my potential supports list set, just never quite got to it but I'm glad it got in without me. it's hard to articulate why I like this so much. it feels much fuller than it actually is, to me, which I respect a lot. lots of nice tense dungeon exploration chords. it tbh has very similar appeal to me that zzzv or stuart rynn does, just a bit more straightforward about it.

dream theater forsaken or that one linkin park song. haha. cool.

einhander is so cool. close match but maybe not as close as if i had made it be obstructor vs thermosphere which i almost did

wow i really did create the land of overstimulating post-tonal language featuring constant 16ths & crazy electronic sounds at this part of the bracket didn't I. well I am not complaining about being here right now

I deeply respect the opponent and wish I could vote for it, but this espgaluda one is definitely my preference here
