With Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario 2 getting remakes in the last year, it seems like nothing's necessarily off the table for Nintendo to remake. Which of their games would get you most excited?

There's a lot of potential games for them to remake, so I couldn't list everything on the poll.

If Nintendo is inevitably going to spend time/resources on more BotW/TotK-esque games, maybe the best version of that would be dropping the pretense entirely and just doing a full blown remake of Zelda 1 in that style.

An Oracles remake that more seamlessly connects the content of both games could also be good now that I think about it.

Sunshine could probably use it the most. If they use it to make two extra worlds and get rid of the blue coin shines, that would be ideal, but I doubt they'd put that much effort into it.

Majora's Mask is the last one I want considering how much they ruined it with the 3DS version.

Yeah this is what I was thinking. Also most other games here don't really need a remake at all, or already got one kinda recently.

I suspect a lot of people would dislike it actually, whether it's faithful or not (but different people/reasons for each case)

There've been many rumors about an FE4 remake coming out later this year.

I actually forgot about FE for the poll, whoops! Should've probably put FE4 on there.

Also would've added Super Metroid if I'd thought of it, which has occasionally been rumored to get a remake from the Dread devs, though I dunno if those rumors are credible.

Sunshine definitely could use it the most. All the other games are at least good and Sunshine has the promise of a good game.

For a mostly 1:1 remake with updated graphics, music, and QOL, the N64 Zeldas seems like the best options.

FE4 remake would be good, but it could also be terrible. There's a lot of edges that make that game good that could be sandpapered away. That said, there's some edges that a remake would drastically improve. Like turning doubling innate to the game as opposed to a skill.

Most of the poll choices are perfect as is, and a remake would add nothing. However, F-Zero GX is the only multi-player choice, so it would benefit from a full online mode.

the funny thing about that is we're basically right in the middle of having that right now, same for MM.
native resolution, widescreen, ray tracing, 60 FPS, mod support, everything, all for PC.

so we can technically see what that could turn into but we also don't need it anymore because N64 games are getting recompiled to work on Windows anyway. that's the biggest reason i just ignored the N64 answers in full, the games are already remade, just not by Nintendo.

And how does widescreen work? I was under the impression that it's a lot of work to convert a 4:3 game to 16:9. Is that not the case?

soundtrack is the same. it's just taking the ROM, changing the code from C to C++, and having Windows/Linux run the program. all essentially seemless. was a topic on this a few weeks ago but i think it purged. fortunately Digital Foundry covered it really well.

The Oracles games were fantastic for their time and it's actually a little surprising they've never been combined into a remake.

Would be awesome to get the Link's Awakening treatment for both Oracle games. There's obvious QoL improvements to make the same way they did with LA, the graphics from the GBC could obviously use a more modern lift-up job, and the two games could be released together and made more interconnected.

Sunshine's wonderful as is; the things it needs fixed don't require a full remake. The real offenders were the Shadow Mario throwaway shines, not the blue coins imo. The glitches (re: Pachinko, for example) could've (and should've) been addressed in the 3D All Stars remaster. The graphics and controls/mechanics from Sunshine hold up really well, I don't feel like it needs to be re-built from the ground up at all.

I had to go with LoZ as it is the best game of all time, but rather than a remake I'd prefer a Zelda Maker that has both original quests, some new stuff, and the ability to make you own quests.
