I always wanted to try one of these, and it seems like at least a few b8ers are interested. Basically, you predict games that will review highly, and get points for the ones with scores over 70, and lose points for the ones with scores below 70. Every member drafts a team of four games, and can bid on more games as the year goes on. You also counterpick a game someone else picked that you think will do poorly (or that you think won't release). Some games are ineligible (yearly franchises like Madden), as well as remasters, early access, and DLC, while remakes and games set free from early access are still eligible. Rules can be seen here:

I ended up making a league for friends after being inspired by the other topic. We drafted in discord which I think works well because you can ping people when it's their turn to draft, as opposed to in-topic where you'd have to just wait for each person to get around to drafting

The basic setup has you draft about half the games and pick up the other half throughout the year, but you can adjust that if you want. You can also set up categories that require people draft within those, like DLC or Remakes specifically. They're optional but I would recommend requiring people to have at least 2-3 New Gaming Franchise categories so that people don't exclusively draft sequels and remakes, which are generally safer

so if everyone drafts immediately when it's their turn, then it could be done in like half an hour probably, but if everyone takes like 24 hours to draft on their turn then it'd take a long time.

Think we'll start the draft on Sunday. Everyone needs to pick a publisher name by then (which all but one of us have!). I can assign a default one (that can be changed) if necessary tho.

Planning to start tomorrow afternoon, 29 hours and 20 minutes from now. So 5PM Eastern?

I set it to require two new franchise games, so we can't all do sequels. There will be five games per person.

For people on the b8 discord, I think we can use the #game-news channel to draft? Seems like an appropriate place. Ping the next person in the drafting order once you finish. If anyone's not on discord, we can ping here, too.

@andylt I created a publisher for you since we all need to have one, but you can change it anytime.

Is StingX2 stingers? Looks like they're on discord, so it's fine regardless, just curious.

Just checked the league settings, EA, remasters and partial remakes aren't eligible but full remakes are (which i believe is the default)

A couple other things to note:
-it's a snake draft, so last person to draft drafts twice and the order reverses
-in my league we just randomized the draft order, I'd suggest that's probably thr best way to handle it

Is there a way to see what people drafted? I'm not part of the game, but I'm sort of interested in what people picked.

It's droppable. We didn't turn on the counterpicks block drops option. Maybe we should've? Good for me that we didn't, though! Pretty much all the options are the default ones.

yeah from what I can tell a lot of experienced leagues turn it on to add more challenge but by default counterpicks don't block drops

Earthblade getting cancelled like 48 hours after you drafted it is so funny.

If the B8 League goes well I'd be cool with making counter picks undroppable next year.

yeah I'd be on board with that next year, makes it a little riskier to choose stuff like GTA6 where it's either REALLY good or you screw yourself

I dont think GTA6 would be droppable anyway. As I understand it, if the game is delayed but going to release in the future (ie next year) it isnt droppable, only if it gets canceled altogether?

but maybe my interpretation is wrong

This is something there was confusion on in my other league too, I think the wording is just confusing

You can drop any amount of games that have been canceled

You can drop exactly one game that has been confirmed to be delayed into the next year

Doom has a May 15 release date! At least one of my games should come out this year, phew.

Expedition 33 and South of Midnight both have release dates too, so Shattered is looking safe.

Arti paid $5 for Fuga: Melodies of Steel 3
Mac paid $10 for Ninja Gaiden 4 (and dropped Earthblade). JONA also attempted to buy Ninja Gaiden 4 but was outbid.
