Never really had this problem, rinse real good.
Youre supposed to wait like 30-45 minutes after eating to brush. Therefore, before.

Before. I didn't even know after was a thing since I've never lived or traveled with anyone that did it that way. Which seems surprising given the poll results

Yeah this is typically what I do. Even if I did eat at home it wouldn't be a big deal though since I typically wake up > feed the pets > brush my teeth. So by the time I've done everything else to be ready for work, it's 20-30 mins later anyway. But really i pick up breakfast on my drive to work and eat it when driving (~30 min commute)
Hate breakfast (side effect of being allergic to eggs) so I never have to worry about this

Don't eat breakfast. Or lunch even. Although I will have breakfast for dinner occasionally.

Before, because I brush in the shower

You only eat one meal a day?
I believe you're supposed to brush first thing in the morning.
while you slept, the world changed
I brush first thing in the morning because my mouth feels disgusting if I don't. No idea if that's optimal or not.

Brushing before eating is like showering then pooping.

I never brush my teeth in the morning and don't see the point after having done so right before bed.

It's best to do so after a meal, and if you're only going to do it once a day, let the toothpaste sink in overnight. That's optimal. Worst time is first thing in the morning before eating breakfast since you'll immediately undo what you did; this will lead to tooth decay.

Official consensus seems to be it's better to brush before rather than after, and that in general, brushing after a meal hurts teeth enamel.

Oh, are you a dentist or hygienist?

I'm going to listen to what the professionals taught me, thank you very much.

Good one.
Literally every link on the first page of google says that it's better to brush before. And that it's not a good idea to do it after meals in general. My dentist has told me the same. Thinking it's good not to brush at all in the morning is also a take.

This all is certainly a take, given how many dentists and hygienists have told me otherwise.

Also I don't brush after meals. I brush right before bed and stop eating after 7 pm. I also use fluoride rinse in the early afternoon. Never ever would brush before breakfast because I'm not going to immediately damage what I did.

Wouldn't that just make dinner your breakfast as that'd be when you broke your fast?

It actually doesn't matter that much, there's advantages to both ways. I believe it largely depends on your habits what is best. Ie how soon after you wake up are you eating etc. The main thing is to make sure you consistently do it.

If you do it after your first meal, you need to wait 30-60 minutes for your enamal to be ok (the more acidic whatever you eat, like coffee/soda, the longer you should wait.
