This is not only the fastest selling console of all time, it broke the record by well over a million units. Also, it sold through 6 million units in seven weeks.

Mario Kart sold 5.63 million units in June, a 97% attach rate.

Thats a lot of sales!

97% sounds insane, how does it compare to previous launch titles?
Guinness Book of World Records is the name of the diary that belongs to azuarc , the winner of the Game of the Decade II guru contest.
If I recall correctly Breath of the Wild was like 102% lol. But that was a much weaker launch lineup and the system was not backwards compatible like this is.

Lmao how does 102% even happen

Mario Kart is probably gonna stay the best selling game og the console.

That's what happens when you stockpile for a launch. I have noticed the sales in the UK have started to slow down though. Most places are restocking and it isn't shifting as quickly. All the hardcore fanboys have one now and everyone else is probably a parent waiting until closer to Christmas to get one.

It was also released on Wii U.

I think the 102% was only the Switch version. The reason was collectors edition double dipping if I remember it right. With the Wii U version its probably well over that.

If I have time later I will try and dig through attach rates for other launch Nintendo games. We definitely have that up to at least the Wii. Suffice to say though, between this snd Breath of the Wild Nintendos strategy of one big launch game is here to stay.

the fact world pulled it off in the face of widespread backlash over the price is crazy. i guess in fairness that was also up against backlash over the console's price too though lmao
Worlds sales have gotta be like 99% through the bundle or at least extremely heavily in favor of the bundle compared to it standalone

Yeah its very clear now that this was all a storm in a teacup. With the bundle most werent paying that much and it wasnt a major price rise for many territories outside the US anyway as prices have been rising more gradually over time. Absolutely the case here anyway.

Anyway heres what I can find on attach rates for launch games going back to the Wii:

Wii -
Twilight Princess, ~70%
Wii Sports, ~96% (Bundled outside of Japan)

3DS -
Nintendogs & Cats, 47%
I couldnt find anything for the other two first party launch titles as they sold less than a million at launch, but both would therefore be less than 28%.

Wii U -
Nintendo Land, 76%
New Super Mario Bros U, 70%

Switch -
Breath of the Wild, 101%

Switch 2 -
Mario Kart World, 97%

Yeah they are not going back to multiple major first party games at launch. Mario Kart World just outsold all of those lineups combined.

It wouldn't make sense to count the Wii U version

I am part of the 3%.
Change is weird.

Are you sure about that? Seems like it's still sold out on amazon UK, unless you buy from a third party seller at above MSRP.

I think around 60% of Switch 2s are bundles.
All the stars in the sky are waiting for you.
Last time i checked Amazon it was still in stock for a few days. Although i mainly check the big online game retailers like Game Collection and Shopto with other more general sites thrown in for good measure.

When I was in line to get one, the stock was 50 bundles and 20 non-bundles. Assuming the ratio other places isn't far off, a significant amount of non-bundle people must have bought MKWorld in order for it to reach a 97% attach rate.
