already preordered kemono teatime, everybody's golf, mamorukun recurse and pacman world 2 repac, plan to also get machine child, HYKE and blippo+ (again, since i already got it on playdate) day 1
very keen to pick up silksong, daemon x machina 2, shuten order, most of the touhou fangames (read: all of them besides mythos of phantasmagoria 2), little problems, town to city, maybe type noise, everything on the 19th lol, maybe wander stars, most of the stuff on the 25th, resleriana 2, maybe cladun x3 and trouble witches final at some point
i kinda rushed talking about these since i was participating in the discord 10th anniv vgmgg at the time but i did go into a bit more depth the other day so here's some slightly longer thoughts
daemon x machina 2 looks good. it's unfortunate i'm now moving out so i can't just rely on my flatmate picking it up for his switch 2 so i can play it lol. guess i'll be waiting for a good steam sale for this one now
there sure are a lot of touhou fangames this month and most of them look pretty alright (pretty likely will pick up marisa of liartop mountain and maybe all of the others besides that drillmatic productions fangame on sale at some point)
little problems has been on my radar for a while as a new take on the obra dinn/golden idol style fill in the blank puzzle game subgenre which i'm happy to support whenever i can
town to city is honestly my most anticipated upcoming citybuilder rn (honestly it seemed like it kind of plays more like a tycoon game (like theme park ones) but with comfy town vibes. really like those vibes as well as the general visual style)
type noise... didn't really sell me when i played the demo, but it is still a game structured like 999 but if it had vibes closer to world's end club or danganronpa and that's still something that has
some
merit to me
if i didn't already know that the trails remake was full price i'd probably be prioritising it, sadly it's $110nzd and i feel like i'd rather get the braver edition anyway so uhhhhhhhhhh
i don't really know what to expect from wander stars but i'm all for its extreme 90s anime inspirations
silent hill f... i definitely can't afford but i hope it's good
and same goes for mostly everything else from that point through to the end of the month (i'm really tempted to get mamorukun/aquapazza/resleriana 2/trouble witches and maybe cladun too but probably not since that's also probably full price considering all the cameo characters it has now). definitely a fan of death on the nile in general (really enjoyed both film adaptations i'd seen too),
as for the stuff i did pick up already
kemono teatime is the game i've been looking forward to most all year. the best looking va11-hall-a-like ever probably, promising warmer vibes and more engaging worldbuilding than last year's hookah haze (which i already liked enough to also get the limited edition for earlier in the year) with an amazing soundtrack from ujico* (more snails housey but still channeling more tasomachi influence than you'd think). it's a bargain title at only around $15usd so i hope that some others also consider it
big fan of everybody's golf and of course i couldn't not support the series unexpectedly making its way to nintendo consoles given its history (with nintendo poaching its original devs for mario golf)
a lot of my favourite games of the current decade are raising sims (from localisations of underrated classics like Lair Land Story, to more ambitious original takes like the World According to Girl, and also just unexpected new ones that are just solid (as well as unexpected commercial successes) like Volcano Princess. apparently Machine Child was first announced a solid 10 years ago but I only learned of its existence a month ago and of course i feel deeply obliged to pick it up considering not only how much i guess i actually like the genre, but knowing that a composer I'm a fan of is on it (keigo hoashi, formerly of monaca)
over the last few years there have been a lot of games associated with kamitsubaki studio talent Isekaijoucho. not only has she been associated with the Yokaze arthouse indie game publishing label, there's also just been a lot of games about kamitsubaki's members over the past year, and even before that, she was getting a bunch of random games specifically about her (which uh, all fell under even my radar for a while). That said, there hasn't been a game until now where i feel confident saying that she was really involved with making it. HYKE is that game, and since i basically simp her, it's an absolute guarantee i'll be picking it up.
Playdate's Season 2 was an incredible set of games, featuring a range of original titles from a lot of names i'm surprised they actually got to work on it. But for me and I think many others, one title completely stole the show... and redefined it. Blippo+ is my current "game" of the year. It's a weird and incredibly magical experimental experience that appeals to me on a level i didn't realise could even be possible now, an assortment of surrealist alien broadcasts on a hefty range of channels, that all runs for eleven real life weeks straight. getting to watch it in greyscale on the humble playdate gave me a new appreciation for it, but i cannot wait to also get it for my switch and uh, steam deck-likes lol, now in technicolor
and pacman world 2 was one of the first games i ever played and especially ever owned, so yeah. deep nostalgia for it, also no longer have that copy i used to own (and haven't had it for close to 20 years). i assumed it'd cost a bit more than it actually did but i'm definitely not complaining. ordered a physical copy off mightyape here and it sounds like i won't be getting it till mid-october sadly but still
bit of a shame to hear about shuten order's mediocrity now since i'd been more interested in it than hundred line.
i have no doubt i'll be playing silksong at some point assuming it's as competitively priced as the original hollow knight so there's no rush there.
despite having it installed the whole time it was in service, i never spent any time on the original resleriana while global was still around, but i had been hyped for the direction it was taking with a lot of its mechanics (well, not the gacha, but still) and its less fanservicey presentation than other mainline entries, so i've been really looking forward to this one to hopefully steer the series in a direction i really want to see again. especially if it has music as good as its mobile predecessor.
oh yeah and since i didn't talk about it prior either since i only found out it was coming out next month like a day or two ago, baby steps has a very aussie/kiwi sense of humour i appreciate a lot and i'm looking forward to it a lot
