it wasn't thrown out on the merits, it was thrown out because it was way too long and filled with pompous self-congratulatory shit to the point it was hard to actually identify the details of the claim. they have the ability to refile with a 40 page limit (it was ~80 pages) and they most certainly will.

Okay so now were out of the initial memeposting phase I need to talk about the absolute shambles that is happening with the new left party in the UK right now because it is very funny.

-For some background, former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was kicked out of the party at the last election but was re-elected as an independent. He then formed a technical group (a caucus basically) with four other independent MPs who got elected as single issue pro-Gaza candidates (all of whom are deeply social conservative, anti-abortion, anti-LGBT, and so on). They eventually start thinking about forming an actual party, maybe.

-They have an informal ten minute Zoom call about working together with a left-wing Labour MP Zarah Sultana at which nothing is agreed. After which she immediately takes to Twitter to announce that she is leaving Labour to co-lead a new left-wing party with Jeremy Corbyn without asking him or telling anybody about it .

-Fast forward a month or so to yesterday, and the new party which still does not formally exist and does not yet have a name sends a message to their mailing list starting membership sign-ups and taking money, with Sultana claiming theyve got 20,000 sign-ups only for the party to then announce that this was not the real sign-up link, Sultana launched sign-ups and started taking peoples data and money unilaterally without telling the rest of the leadership . In other words fraud. This led to the MPs (other than Sultana) issuing an emergency statement telling people to cancel payments.

-Eventually Sultana again took to social media to make a statement that she did it because she had been frozen out of the partys (that she is supposedly co-leading) accounts, calls the party a sexist boys club and then calls for Corbyn (again, with whom she is supposedly co-leading the party) to meet with her. In the meantime, Corbyn is now planning on suing her over the whole thing.

@Forceful_Dragon regarding quarterly vs semi-annual since I never responded in the previous topic

I think the guy in the video is very investor-focused. Yeah, of course investors want more information and would not like it if frequency was halved. But I think we've created a culture of catering to investors, and that has not been a net gain.

I also think we're at a point in time where the stock market/investing has become increasingly stupid and divorced from reality.

I do agree that given the option, a lot of publicly traded companies are still going to report quarterly. It would take a much larger global cultural shift to move away from that in a meaningful way.

Also, on the bit about hiding fraud/judging numbers being easier under semi-annual reporting: there are crimes being committed in broad daylight under this administration and I can't see this making things worse in that regard.

I dont think quarterly reports in the US are subject to audits so they don't actually make companies any more honest.

The only time the statements are really verified is the annual audit.

I took the broader point to be the difference between "reporting" and "guidance".

If all of the P&L data is really being tracked in real time anyways then it's just the inconvenience of publishing those figures every 3 months. If it the burden is disproportionately weighted towards smaller companies then perhaps a better solution would be to only apply the semiannual requirement to companies below a certain size?

I guess I just haven't seen a good example of the harm being caused by the "burden" of these reports, but I'm not an industry insider so there are certainly things I don't know.

They are better off just keeping him a blank figurehead to people.

I had so many people come up to me saying if i felt bad for Charlie Kirk or how sad it was. I would roll off a couple quotes or beliefs of his and the common response was a "no he didnt say that". But these were mostly out of the know people, they really didn't know much about him other than what they'd seen on recent TV.
