Noble Nine

Board 8

Originally, I wanted a clean 33 grid - that was the goal. But once I started measuring, the bottom row fell too low on the wall. Thats what led me to the Clinkeroth configuration and it ended up being perfect.

Cloud | Link | Sephiroth

Link goes dead-center. Hes the top dawg and literally on the peak.
Cloud is turned away from Link because if Cloud was in the center, hed be staring right at Links Master Sword. Sephiroth mirrors him on the other side. One small detail: the Sun and Moon behind those two flankers.

From there, I structured the rest into two more rows of threes:

Snake | Samus | Mario
Crono | Mega Man | Sonic

Each trio creates its own little triangle rivalry in terms of strength - with Mario and Crono meeting in the middle. Samus and Mega Man are the blaster-types, so they naturally work best opposite each other. Solid Snake and Sonic both face inward to help close the composition visually.
You can even map clean matchup history across the whole row - Snake vs Samus, Samus vs Mario, Mario vs Crono, etc.
