4 retcons/contradicts the entire canon pointlessly, and is devoid of soul to boot.

4 is easily a candidate for worst film ever. Kevin is listed as 9 years old in HA4, yet somehow being 8 in HA1 and 10 in HA2 (a mistake admittedly made by the writers on 2). That means if true, the following happened between 1 and 2...

- Wet Bandits escape prison and break up
- Marv starts dressing like Harry
- Marv gets married
- Kevin's parents split for a while and get back together
- Marv probably divorces his wife after getting busted again
- Marv escapes prison again and reunites with Harry

I know the original plan for 3 was to have Culkin, Pesci, and Stern together again, but Culkin was slowly making his way out of major acting as he got older and dropped it altogether.

Bayley vs Piper for the WWE Women's title

Potentially to be added within the next 2 weeks based on recent events:
DIY vs A-Town Down Under for the WWE Tag titles
Probably Strowman vs Balor and McDonagh
Zayn vs Gable for the IC title

They also started prepping us for LA Knight vs Logan Paul, but that's probably a Summerslam match tbh

Very likely that Cody Rhodes becomes the next to be added. With the US title not up for grabs anymore, I think they're setting up for Logan Paul to lose the belt to LA Knight.

Part timer or not, 2 title defenses since October is inexcusable for Paul.

Short version for ToC:

128 games
1-4 seeds: Champions from 1992 to 2023
5-8 seeds: Runner-ups from 1992 to 2023
9-16 seeds: Final Four competitors from 1992 to 2023

And I think RE4 should be in the year the original was in

Original was 2005's champion so it'll get in without question.

Regarding the one spot from RE4, did you keep track of what games needed tiebreakers?

That would narrow it down to...

Crash Bandicoot 3
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Left 4 Dead
Borderlands
Ghost Trick
Metal Gear Rising
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair
Bowser's Fury

PunishedJeezy posted...
This is just my two cents and I don't feel strongly about it, but I'd say let both RE4s in.

I don't want the same game in twice, and it's practically the exact same game only 18 years apart.

No championship contender would get demoralized after a game 1 loss.

This. The following teams still won the NBA Championship after losing game 1 in the finals...

1998 Bulls
2001 Lakers
2006 Heat
2011 Mavericks
2012 AND 2013 Heat
2016 Cavaliers
2021 Bucks
2022 Warriors

Obviously a small number and I only started looking from 96 and onward, but the point stands

I had to definitely trim the fat on the Elite Eight list. Even Goat Simulator made it that far, for example.

In a couple weeks, we'll fire up the nomination process for 1993. Just off Google and Wikipedia alone, these are some of the prominent titles with a shot at glory

I've quickly learned through this topic that I'm apparently easy to please because I don't mind at least 80% of the songs nominated today

The following would be 5-8 seeds. If I do it based on performance/impact, 5s would be reserved for games like Super Metroid, FF7, FFX. 8 seeds would probably be Vampire Survivors, AI, etc.

Super Metroid
Donkey Kong Country 2
Super Mario 64
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy 8
Final Fantasy 9
Final Fantasy X
Kingdom Hearts
Star Wars: KOTOR
Half Life 2
Devil May Cry 3
Kingdom Hearts 2
BioShock
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Arkham Asylum
Mass Effect 2
Uncharted 3
Borderlands 2
The Last of Us
South Park: Stick of Truth
Bloodborne
Pokemon Sun/Moon
Super Mario Odyssey
God of War (2018)
AI: The Somnium Files
FF7 Remake
Resident Evil Village
Vampire Survivors
Baldur's Gate 3

The following would be 9-16 seeds. The one I honestly want locked in at #9 is Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Any game that takes Elden Ring to OT and loses by a field goal deserves its flowers, especially after how Elden Ring murdered literally everything else in its path in '22.

1994: Donkey Kong Country, Sonic 3&K
1995: You Don't Know Jack, Yoshi's Island
1996: DKC3, Metal Slug
1997: Diddy Kong Racing, Star Fox 64
1998: Metal Gear Solid, Banjo-Kazooie
1999: Crash Team Racing, Super Smash Bros
2000: Majora's Mask, Marvel vs Capcom 2
2001: Silent Hill 2, Metal Gear Solid 2
2002: Vice City, Mario Sunshine
2003: Beyond Good and Evil, Disgaea
2004: Paper Mario 2, Ninja Gaiden
2005: Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, Mario Kart DS
2006: Guitar Hero 2, Castlevania Portrait of Ruin
2007: PW - Trials and Tribulations, Persona 3
2008: Fallout 3, Metal Gear Solid 4
2009: Dragon Age, RE5
2010: FF13, DKC Returns
2011: Skyward Sword, Arkham City
2012: Pokemon B/W 2, Walking Dead
2013: Mario 3D World, BioShock Infinite
2014: Danganronpa: THH, Mario Kart 8
2015: Life is Strange, Xenoblade X
2016: Uncharted 4, FF15
2017: Nier Automata, Persona 5
2018: Red Dead 2, Spider-Man
2019: RE2, Kingdom Hearts 3
2020: Ori and Will of the Wisps, Animal Crossing NH
2021: Psychonauts 2, R&C Rift Apart
2022: Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Neon White
2023: Resident Evil 4*, Hi-Fi Rush

This also means that potentially good/solid games get 16 seeds, but somebody has to be the caboose here.

And if it made it to the Elite Eight in 1998, I'd have considered it. Potential replacements are the following:

Mario Kart 64
Goldeneye
Crash Bandicoot 3
Sonic Adventure
Paper Mario

The road ahead...

Tournament of Champions
- Right now, we're at 30 winners, and 2 more would give us a minimum for a bracket. But let's take it a step or two further...
- 128 game bracket, consisting of 32 tournament winners, 32 runner-ups, and 64 games that reached the Final Four
- Still working on how seeds will be done (either by me or by all of us somehow). All 32 champs will be 1 through 4 seeds. Runner-ups will be 5-8. Final Four losers will be 9-16.
- I'd like to reserve SOME of the #1 seeds to those with the best tournament performances, which would probably be Chrono Trigger, Elden Ring, Final Fantasy VI, and Portal 2.
- Resident Evil 4 would have two slots due to winning 2005 and appearing in the 2023 Final Four. To combat this, I may replace the 2023 version with a game that reached the Elite Eight and have you guys vote to determine what that game is. Choices would probably include the first Phoenix Wright, Metal Gear Rising, and Mass Effect 3, among others.
- Next two tournaments to bridge the gap are 1993 and 1992

After 6 tournaments that consisted of finishing in second place against Alucard, Zagreus, Spyro, a Nintendo all-star roster, and two different generations of Pokmon, Final Fantasy finally exorcises its demons as VI wins the first championship for the series, with a hard-earned 23-14 victory over Super Metroid!

It took 30 tournaments for it to finally happen, but if only one Final Fantasy wins any of these tournaments, might as well be the best one that does it!

Official bracket
https://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?1&tid=478452

1994's Ultimate Loser is...
FF6 > Metroid > DKC > Bloodlines > Killer Instinct > Tekken > Al Unser Jr's Road to the Top

Also fitting. See you sometime down the road for 1993!

(Discussions/plans for the Tournament of Champions coming up soon!)

As a UNC fan, I can't fully support Kyrie Irving, but considering he already has a ring thanks to LeBron, getting a 2nd ring is whatever; I'm pulling for the Mavs because of Luka.

On a different note, Irving would only become the 3rd Duke player to win multiple NBA titles if the Mavs win this year (first two are Shane Battier with the Heat and Quinn Cook with the Warriors and Lakers)
Formerly known as Raven 2
Everything falling into place as Gunther and Valkyria advance to the finals of their brackets.

Pretty sure Nia takes advantage of Belair's hurt knee and advances, setting up a David vs Goliath situation. Gunther vs Tonga makes no sense so it's probably time for Tonga to finally get an L so that we get Ring General vs The Viper in Saudi Arabia

These two are actually my top 2 SNES games

The Christmas I got these two games, and I think it was only these two games-- it was truly magical and will never be topped

This is legit OG stuff man. I regret not being into JRPGs and Metroidvanias when these 2 games first came out. I rented both at 9 years old but didn't know what tf I was doing. I eventually played both in my adult years thanks to Wii Virtual Console (Metroid) and FF6 getting a solid GBA port, and both are in my top 30 of all time (hell, FF6 might be at minimum top two).

But having both on SNES cartridges? That's what dreams are made of.
