Mystery Tower doesn't have a time limit, though.

It does have a stamina limit, where you can only pick up blocks so many times. But it's not a hard limit of moves like a lot of puzzle games, you get a lot more moves than you need to finish a level and you can pick up items to restore your stamina. In fact you can just wait around indefinitely for more stamina potions or w/e to show up. It probably would have been a better game if it were removed though (as well as the arcade y scoring elements), since it's pretty pointless.

I bounced off of it at first (since I couldn't figure out how you were supposed to turn the blocks around), but I came back to it and figured out most of it on my own, although I didn't do the bonus levels. Many of the early levels are designed to teach you things about the quirks of the mechanics, and while I thought the priests and such move a bit wonkier than the monks in Lode Runner games, a lot of the stages that have them also have places where you can trap them permanently so you can continue on with the rest of the stage without worrying about them unlike Lode Runner.

Getting the ending is pretty damn stupid, so I suggest just looking up what to do when you get to that part.

anyway a walkthrough with pictures

doesn't cover the bonus levels, though.

However, this video shows the bonus levels too

Kare Kano's one of the classic shoujo, but the anime budget just collapses at some point iirc. It also ends before it gets to the more serious/dramatic stuff (but for you that would probably be a positive).

At one point Lain was held up as one of the premiere intellectual/mind screw anime, but some things about it probably haven't aged particularly well. Especially since the creator apparently ended up going deeper into the conspiracy rabbit hole.

Nadesico is fun. Though I wouldn't try to say it's trying to parody Eva, it's more of a real robot show (or maybe kind of Yamato-ish, hence the title) where the various characters are fans of super robot shows. Just don't watch the movie (although I think it's a bit over hated).

The Turbografx Star Soldier games are great, but the NES one... not so much. Particularly since it's one of those games aimed at Takahashi Meijin types and meant to completely destroys your hands with repetitive motion injuries from all the button mashing ha ha. I couldn't get anywhere using a hori split pad that lets you assign an autofire button.

Play the Turbografx games if you want a more refined take on the series, or at least play Musha Aleste on the Genesis NSO app which is similar (and is pretty easily the best shmup on NSO, and often considered to be one of the best shmups on the Genesis itself anyway)

I ended up playing the story mode in Wrecking Crew 98 today, as well as doing the 40 stages of Insane stage clear mode and the story mode in Kirby no Kira Kira Kids.

...Well, I'll probably have to play again to get the true endings in both.

Wrecking Crew 98 is really different from the first game... the original was more or less a Lode Runner clone, but 98 is a puzzle game that kind of reminds me of Mr. Driller. (actually that's probably not a bad comparison to make, since Mr. Driller is a sequel to Dig Dug...)

Since Wrecking Crew 98 isn't translated on the NSO, here's a video taken from the fan translation that shows all the game's tutorials in english.

I like Dig Dug 2, but it definitely needs some tweaking. Enemies move a bit too fast to really make trying to corral them into one place for points a viable option, so you mostly just beat enemies by inflating them. It makes levels with enemies clustered together to make it easier to dump them at once a lot harder than they should be. it would have made more sense to have them gradually speed up to that level after spending some time on a level as a 'hurry up' mechanic.

There's 72 levels before it loops, but it should only take a few hours to do since you can just continue on the last stage you left off on.

some gameplay advice I found out when I played that might help someone

it's actually a lot faster to inflate an enemy by walking towards them and mashing B, than to stand in one place and mashing B. The hose tip gets lodged into the enemy and causes it to instantly inflate one level, then moving causes the hose to dislodge from the enemy, so you can then immediately fire the hose out again and inflate the enemy another level

You can safely walk on the horizontal row below the horizontal row an enemy is walking on towards you because it won't immediately change direction vertically. It will make a U turn to get on the same horizontal row behind you, and chase after you. This is actually a decent strategy for trying to lure 1-2 enemies away from a large group so you can pump them (particularly since enemies seem to prefer to avoid walking on the edge of an island, unless they're chasing you). Walk on the row below them as they walk towards you to get them to chase you, then turn around to walk towards and pump them using the method I mentioned above. You might need to work on the spacing/timing a bit to give you some time to escape if it's actually a larger stack of enemies on top of one another than you anticipated so you don't end up dying while pumping the first enemy.

iirc, Turn A and X are supposed to be in the UC timeline too. They're just so late in it, and most of the records of what happened earlier are lost in-universe due to all the wars that they might as well be stand alone series. F91/Crossbone got rewritten in Super Robot Wars V to be a similar sort of "post apocalyptic" Gundam setup (for how little the game featured it). Well, I'm not sure about X since I haven't watched it, it could just be a retcon type thing that came later on for X, but I remember Tomino getting super mad that people couldn't immediately tell that G-Reco was set after Turn A despite there not being anything to suggest it plotwise.

For UC Gundam, there's a pretty clear through-line of

MSG -> Zeta -> ZZ -> Char's Counterattack

and I think that you probably need to see Char's Counterattack for Unicorn (and the things that tie into Unicorn) and the Hathaway movies (since it's an adaptation of a sequel of the AU novelization of Char's Counterattack) but for most of the other UC stuff you'd probably be fine watching it on its own.

(someone can correct me if I'm wrong, since I've pretty much only seen the original, 0080, Char's Counterattack, F91, and G-Reco out of UC Gundam, and I don't remember F91 very well)
