I thought about going back in time and embark on an old school FF challenge. I felt V would give me the best chance to try something different, because the job system is so unique in this installment. Here's the rules I came up with for myself.

1. No character can be freelancer or mime (until the final or secret bosses)
2. Each character will be given a main job chosen at random (out of a hat). Krile will obviously have Galuf's innates, but I felt she needs her own class.
3. If that job requires waiting for a crystal, that member will be given a tentative job at each crystal waypoint (through the same selection process)
4. Characters that complete their main job will be given another occupation.
5. Any member can overlap jobs (tentative or main) with another (imagine 4 white mages at once...eww).

I originally tried my Anthology version, but it kept freezing during save files. This was my initial setup.

Main Job Choices (1st Try)

Bartz: Berserker (uh oh)
Lenna: Dancer
Faris: Monk
Galuf: Ninja
Krile: Geomancer

Interpretation: Offensively gifted for the first half, but dropping the Ninja for the Geomancer renders me in a mixed bag. I can use Lenna or Krile as support. Bartz being Berserk will screw me up in terms of flexibility. I have to hope to God he doesn't come up as the only White Mage beforehand. Otherwise, I've got to master it in a hurry.

I tried using emulation, but I suffer numbness in my hands playing games on my laptop. Good thing too, cause here's what I drew for that playthrough.

Main Job Choices (2nd Try)

Bartz: Beastmaster/Tamer
Lenna: Bard
Faris: Dancer
Galuf: Monk
Krile: Bard

Interpretation: Sheer torture...I can think of a few worse combinations, but those dual bards; just horrible. Let's just hope my final picks pan out.

With my copy and emulation out the window, I had to fork over money and buy the PSN release (my $10...). I felt it fair to return to the hat and pick one more time. Especially to throw that terrible second choice out the window.

Main Job Choices (3rd and Final Try)

Bartz: Blue Mage
Lenna: Black Mage
Faris: Blue Mage
Galuf: Black Mage
Krile: Samurai

Interpretation: Well...it's demonstronably better than option #2, but lacks serious physical punch until midgame. The best part is I should be able to have attack flexibility and the ability to quickly master it. Getting past the defensive fragility will be a *****. Also, I won't merely stop at Level 6 Magic. I need mastery to make this count.

Current Position: Ship Graveyard (Complete)

I have yet to be completely overwhelmed. Both mobs and bosses have taken tremendous damage from the dual black mage combination. My fears over the blue mages' defense still persists, but they at least do considerably more offensive damage with their equipment (and have shields to protect themselves). I'm stuck using Tonics; that is my biggest concern moving forward

Back to work

I've had a leather desk chair for a couple years. It started wobbling, so I took it apart. The chair itself is intact but something on the underside (the metal portion the leather sits on) is crooked. I don't think it's a part I can dislodge with the L-Wrench either. I'd rather not spend tons of money on a new one. Is there anyway to fix it?

This is going to be quite hard, even though I knew a day like this was inevitable. I've taken leaves of absence from message boards a few times over the past year due to frustration, the immense negativity presented by a lot of topics and posters, but for whatever reason, I returned like nothing had gone wrong. Now it seems I need to quit for the right reasons. I'm not super busy, nor am I forcing myself to leave under duress. However, the lure of GFAQs (and the internet in general) seems to be my own addiction. I don't suffer physical ills like smoking, drinking, etc., but I feel sitting on my ass day in day out looking at the same websites will eventually tear me down. I think that moment has come. That said, eight years is a long time, and things have changed.

When I first started, the gaming battles had begun in earnest. This was my first ever message board, so I wandered into Board 8 in amazement at the myriad of posts and topics. I quickly found out things about gaming, different fanbases, and internet popularity. For whatever reason, I got hooked on the idea that someone somewhere could read my posts and think, “this person is cool.” It was an intimacy I hadn’t had because I didn’t socialize at school or outside. I still don’t, but I’ll cover that later. Anyway, this was the time when “armies” were huge. Rallies for different fans occurred, trying to make their favorite character “the best.”

I joined the “Official Sephiroth Army,” ironic given my choice of username. In those initial months, I christened myself a “shaman,” which led to my first big topic stream, S3. It was an advice forum for people to send in random questions about me, my hobbies, their issues in life, or other comments. I was instantly hooked on the sensation of answering people’s questions and could feel the gratitude. I wanted to help people if I could, and that was the first time I felt a “rush” of being a “message board junkie.” Other self-made threads like “Name a Flaw” still exist today in certain boards so it makes me happy to know they still exist. Kyle Bowen’s topics, “All-Purpose Wrestling,” and this soapbox are the other proudest moments. For anyone from the Pro Wrestling Board however, I do hope you go to hell. The sheer amount of cynicism, hatred, and hypocrisy there is unparalleled. For something we enjoy watching, I don’t know how one can live ******** about something they love on a daily basis.

I have no qualms about anything I’ve done while being an “internet junkie.” Eight years go by so fast, but it’s retrospective. That social inadequacy I spoke of still exists, but it has more do to with being solely focused on living and working as opposed to fearing rejection. Instead of wanting someone next to me to respect and admire, I feel content in the fact that I can live my life without compromise. I think the other change is that my eternal optimism has clashed with cynicism. It’s opened my eyes to how not to accept things just because they are commonplace or easy. People have every right to *****, but I have every right to tell them to go **** themselves for feeling too depressed or angry for their own good.

If I learned anything, it’s that shaping one’s life takes time. I don’t regret being here, staying up all those late nights, or finding friends or getting into flame wars. Still, it’s time I learned to accept a new phase in my life. Thanks to overcoming obesity, I already know what it takes to eliminate addictions. Like Dante from Clerks, I became addicted to the convenience. In that sense, I took a ****, but now I’m getting off the pot. I hope to see you guys again in another lifetime. Best of luck.

Once again, I'm beginning to feel the urge to quit using message boards entirely. Much like my recent Persona binge (150 hours in three weeks), I think I'm spending way too much time reading posts, lurking, etc. Unlike before, when I quit out of frustration for stupid **** (FFXIII bashing), I think I'm doing this of my own volition. An addiction can be harmful, and I need to start utilizing my time more fruitfully. I'm not sitting here saying it wasn't worth it (8 years doing anything is far from useless). I grew up as a GFAQs message board junkie. I've met a lot of people, done, said, and heard too many things. However, I need to get off my ass a little more and find something else to do. I fear if I return, I'll just get sucked back in like I always have.

I want to thank you guys for calling me a gaming "machine," a nutjob, a "shaman," but most of all, a friend. I'll stick around for a few more hours, but come midnight, you may never hear from me again.

He's also getting better at announcing people in SvR, something Lillian could never get right. He did still have duffers though like, "E-uh-dge." It seems like half of the wrestlers can't seem to translate their voice to that different setting. MVP, Vince, and Cena nailed it though.

Just make sure never to put Bourne on the mic ever again (arena or video game).

I really wish FFVI didn't share the most evil and archaic design flaw in RPGs: random encounters. As great as most of those 90s FF games were, I can't shake the sense of dread I feel trying to play that or any game with the mechanic. I couldn't even bother getting past the 10 hour mark in FF7's last playthrough. Nothing feels worse than getting trapped in a dungeon looking for treasure, ******* up in a dead end, only to fight 4-5 battles just to return to the same location. Yes, VI is one of the VERY few that has an accessory that eliminates encounters, but if CT taught us anything, it's that random encounters should have died once it came out.

And that my friends is the ONLY complaint about VI. Too bad it's a really big ass one.

Cap lived up to Marvel standards. I liked how both Cap was treated as a normal guy, despite his gifts. He learned using his powers effectively and became the leader the Avengers need. Weaving and Jones dominated my attention for different reasons. Stock characters yes, but they played them well. I would have liked to see a little more Howard Stark, to build the Iron Man connection, but that's a minor gripe. Evans is perfect and fit right alongside the best casting decisions the company always seems to make. The Avengers should be a massive success.

Kane WAS superstar of the year last year, but fan voting being the ****fan that it is had Cena win out of utter stupidity. After all, look what Kane did.

MITB winner -> Cashed in same night
World Heavyweight Champion for five months
Dominated Rey Mysterio and Undertaker throughout feud
Consistently had amazing promos
Won cross brand matches with Raw superstars (or showed superiority overall)

I'd say he was at his best last year.

We're closing in on the final movie before the Avenger Initiative gets complete. Thanks to Iron Man 1&2, Incredible Hulk, and Thor, Marvel has hit their stride at the right time. I haven't seen First Class, but that only adds to the momentum they have going. Captain America has a lot going for it (good acting and studio pedigree). Avengers hinges on whether Chris Evans can fulfill this hefty role along side a powerhouse like RDJ. Until the movie comes out, let's use this time to discuss everything going on in the Marvel continuity and the hype surrounding the First Avenger.

Think of all the times developers didn't give you what you wanted. More health, more weapons, faster running speed, etc. Most games have issues that went unnoticed, but **** that, let's go in and fix them. Name the game, then name the issue you would instantly fix.

90% of games (especially JRPGs): Sometimes, I don't want to see my main character in the same stupid outfit. However, FF and other games only let me change the weapon/armor appearance. DQIX happened upon the idea that Saints Row and WRPGs had for years. Every part of appearance is at disposal. Who knows what combinations we could come up with.

Castlevania Curse of Darkness: This was a solid game in the franchise, but a glaring flaw makes it nearly insufferable. Hector jogs at a snail's pace. Perhaps it's simply the perspective of the camera moving slow and not the character himself. Whatever the reason, the ******* is slow as ****.

Persona: I love these games to death, but you can't skip the dialogue scenes. Maybe there are scenes I want to entirely skip, but no, the game forces me to press X the entire time till it's over. Especially annoying when bosses kick my ass. Look at Radiant Historia: everything is skippable. You can phase out conversations until the pivotal choices need to be made. Definitely a step forward.

I'll think of more later.

As far as active wrestlers go, Morrison, Henry, Swagger, Christian, and Jackson are the only ones left who can lay claim to all three titles. That is unless RVD or ECW originals return (not likely), Vince returns to take the WHC (god help us), or reignites ECW from its ashes again...also unlikely.

Oh, and Matt Hardy could too, but he's probably too busy snarfing down doughnuts.

I wish I could be Beatrix from FFIX. I mean, she was in freaking God-mode half the game.
