Generic powers, mostly. He's all-around perfect except for one very specific weakness. Instead of excelling by pushing one aspect of himself to the extreme (like The Flash's speed or Batman's planning), he's just... everything. I like characters who have extreme flaws to overcome.

ever17 over FSN and Katawa

I am disappoint

F/SN was my first VN and it's an awesome universe, but I like things that break the mold; F/SN just... I dunno, it didn't do anything spectacularly like Ever17 did with the plot twists that still haunt me to this day

there is literally nothing that sets Katawa above other slice of life romance VN's except maybe Rin and two of the routes are just downright bad imo. on the whole it's good, it's just... hell, I don't even see why it could be considered better than Muvluv Extra

btw, everything 6 and above is basically 'hey i liked this VN', 7 is 'hey this VN is pretty good', 8 is 'wow holy crap this VN was good', 9 is 'jesus christ guys this VN is really really good read this now pls', and 10 can only be expressed through guttural grunts and various tribal dances because the english language has no proper way of expressing that much love

I would throw out a rec for Dangan Ronpa LP but given the first post recommending an LP over an actual VN is not the most helpful >_>

but Dangan Ronpa is awesome, this rec is always welcomed! if i were to give it a score just based on the first two trials, it'd be somewhere in the 7-8 range, but I don't like judging stuff before I finish it

read up to the end of the second case, I'm waiting for complete investigations + trials to be done with before reading them because if I try to follow it day by day, I'll invariably lose interest and forget about it

Baldr Sky Dive1's translation should be finishing sometime during the summer, but Dive1 ends at an unsatisfying point and the rushing they did to get it out shows in a quality dip.

Didn't know that about it. Still... I'm really looking forward to it so I'll probably just go ahead and read it ;>_> Muvluv has reignited my love of mechs, and the Baldr series has been on my radar since before I even knew what a VN was, so yeah.

I liked the Higurashi VN more, but I stopped because... actually, I have no idea why I stopped, it was pretty damn good, I got into the middle of the second or third chapter. Really? I figured out the possible suspects after watching the axe ending since Ace took Lotus away with him (most likely to the exit as explained in the safe and true endings) and left Junpei just standing there waiting for Clover (who ironically did not take an actual codename since her name is Clover which is confirmed in either the safe or true endings), but Axe ending was the scariest for me, Safe was the saddest yet best, and True was good but it was confusing at the same time.

Axe was my second end, iirc; I don't think I knew the importance of extra watches by then. Everything just was really confusing at that point. First was sub which really confused the hell out of me until I realized it was incredibly obvious someone faked their death. I remember thinking Lotus and Seven were the culprits then, heh. Somehow killed the others, faked their own death while Junpei was distraught, and then came up to end him at the end.

Alice is apparently one of the main characters in the next game in the series along with Clover, I dunno anything more than that though. I think my favorite end was the one where Junpei gets killed after discovering Lotus's body because that's where I was able to seriously start limiting down the list of culprits. I think I was under the impression it was either Ace or the pair of Santa and Seven due to the combinations of numbers I was running (and eliminating the obvious like Lotus since she was dead), but I'd failed to take into account the 9th Man's watch for that one scenario.

Also you should read Ever17. Without spoiling anything, if you liked 999, you'll absolutely love Ever17. Same writer, longer, 10x the plot twists. The concept doesn't seem quite as interesting as 999's at first, but after going through one arc you'll start to see all the mysteries and unanswered questions forming.

PS those who had to grind in this game were probably the people who kept using the same team all the time. That's not how you play a JRPG. The bosses all have weaknesses to different party members.

I tried multiple parties and they all died on the first turn as well. Gaining a few levels meant I could barely survive the attacks, which was enough to win. Ended up finishing that fight with Raynie and Marco though >_>

Did you have +speed in your accessory slots? That might've helped there. Like I had +10 speed minimum on each character. I beat it at 50/49/49 or so with Stocke/Raynie/Marco which while not underleveled I don't think is overleveled either.

I equipped every one I had. I don't go out of my way to level, but I use everything I have on hand for optimal efficiency. Iirc it wasn't even the boss that killed me but the pylon/crystal/thingies on the side that did it <_<

I never had to grind and I abused the hell out of stealth/sword attacks to avoid most fights. Dunno what the issue you guys had there was. You probably could've accomplished the same thing grinding did by improving your tactics/gear setup.

I was getting demolished before I could act. As long as I could survive a single turn, I can manage heals, but I think I was pretty underlevelled or something >_>

I disagree, her traps are insane but a lot of her utility comes with Polaris and her heals, which help out the most in the big boss fights her traps are ineffective in

Most of the late game bosses aren't huge, either; there's a few exceptions, but the overwheling majority of them are movable and iirc they all use status effects anyways, so Polaris and uhh that other move that increases magic defense is extremely useful. Counting chapter 6 onwards, I counted 13 movable bosses and 2 unmovable ones <_<

Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3 is pretty awesome, though it lacks licensed music in the English release.

Melty Blood's soooo good. It's among my favorite 2D fighters. If you're gonna get into it, get Actress Again Current Code, it was only released a few months back.
