Well, when Forte went down, Barber and Kahlil Bell actually filled in really well (I'm purposely leaving out the Denver game, I know). But everyone really saw how much Cutler means to that team. The D played really well against Oakland, KC, and the Broncos, but the O couldn't get it done without him. Gonna have a good year next year if he stays healthy, he was really coming on before he got hurt.

Jerry Jones is looked at in the same way, and when he dies, it'll be the same thing. Looked at as a giant egomaniac (even when he was younger), but when he passes, he'll obviously be talked about as a pioneer for the game, among other things.

Oh, so yeah there's at least one big sports fan in this topic! Was a very happy NFL fan a few months ago, then Jay Cutler broke his thumb and Caleb Hanie happened. :(

Like, I understand if I found a Kakuna before Weedle had evolved, that would be the first of the area. Or, if Pirate had died and a Weedle was then first in the Forest, it would count. But I don't know about this one. If no one has a definite in a few minutes, I'm counting Weedle as a duplicate, since it kinda technically is. And then praying for Pikachu...

Hah first battle in the Forest is a Kakuna. But Pirate had just evolved into a Kakuna! Owned. Wait, so now if I see a Weedle, is that considered the first non-duplicate since I don't technically have a Weedle anymore?

Holy sweet mother, Pirateking was just about ended in a battle against a level 4 Rattata. It tail whipped twice while Pirate poison stung it twice, and got it poisoned. The rat then tackled Pirate...........doing 16 damage, bringing Pirate down to 1. Paul came in to finish. My lord this is a stressful challenge! Normally a Weedle dying a few times isn't bad, but when I know I lose it if it dies now....

Well so far I haven't manage to kill any prospective team members, but it was close for my next two companions. Nonetheless, on route....uhh 22 I think, the one where you fight the rival, we acquired:

Woo flying type! Thanks to my buddy the spacebar, grinding Genesis to the rest of the party's level didn't take long. Then we ventured up to route 2, listened to the boring old man, went into the grass and caught....

Pirateking the gentle Weedle, lvl 4

Well that's good, that makes sure I can't catch it in the Forest, slightly upping the chances that I get a Pikachu! Time to head into the forest and hopefully not get poisoned and have someone die while running back to Viridian....

So uhh, is it bad that I already had a close call?


Took on Red on route 22. He led with his Pidgey, I sent out Paul. We had a tackle battle, but Pidgey landed 2 crits to leave Paul with 4 hp. So I send out Natwaf, but Pidgey landed a sand-attack before dying. I left Natwaf in against Bulbasaur because Paul would be dominated at 4 hp. Natwaf hit 2 quick attacks and missed 2 others, Bulba got a crit in (this is gonna be a running theme I think), and Natwaf was down to 3 hp. Used my only potion, then tried to kill Bulba ASAP. Killed it with 6 health left. A bit scary to start! Lucky I didn't encounter any poke in that route either, so I can go back in after healing!

Quick question, going through Route 1 at the beginning without pokeballs, I don't lose my chance to get one if I encounter any right now do I? Since I obviously can't catch anything yet....

Anyway, I load up th.................I mean put in the cartridge and start it up! My name is Mike, and my rival will just be Red. Blah blah blah stuff at the beginning, and we get to Oak's lab. Red's there too, but we get first pick obviously. We then meet our first team member:

Yeah, everyone else is going one of these, so I thought I'd toss my name into the mix! And I wanted to make this game a little more challenging, since I can normally waltz through it pretty easily. As far as rules go:

- One pokemon per area/route/whatever
- No duplicates
- Set mode (never used this...)
- If they die, they are either released outright or put in a box of corpses...
- All of them get nicknames

I think that's all, let me know if I've missed any of the major ones. I'm new at this, never done one before!

In FF8, I believe the only time I really ever grinded was for certain items to make certain weapons. Oh, and the items to make the Solomon Ring summon Doomtrain. And killing Cactaurs for AP, though that didn't really take very long.

Anyway, heading to Limberry. Germinas Peak was uneventful, some bandits led by a ninja. Orlandu killed him on the first turn of the battle, so that ended any difficulty there. Poeskas Lake was the same thing really, got rid of the ghost summoner early, and it was a walk from there. Now into Limberry itself....

I vaguely remember that counter being some kind of tri-attack thing, and it messed the party up real good. But yeah, ugh Adel. Always gave me fits as a kid, I could never beat her easily, and NEVER on the first couple tries. ****ing Rinoa....

Anyway, beat Balk on the first try, though it wasn't amazingly easy. Indy has blade grasp, and attacks have like, a 21% chance of hitting him. But it definitely seem like that percentage is at 80, because attacks hit more often than not....

Took on the South gate of Bethla Garrison, and mopped up the soldiers there pretty easily. Then to the Sluice. A little tougher, because one of the knights on the lever had throw, which he used without remorse. Eventually killed all of them though, and opened the dam, or whatever it is.

Freed Orlandu, and he's now with me. Aww yeah T.G. Cid!! Gotta get him all of his attacks, but he'll be a machine anyway! Now to Limberry.

II played through FF8 without really getting it much at all. In particular I hated drawing and refining both so I pretty much ignored stocking up lots of spells and was pretty underjunctioned. I still found the game very easy in general. Raijin/Fujin though, that was a nasty fight for some reason, it definitely killed me a couple times. So, it's not just you, I guess?

Yeah I didn't know much about junctions or anything my first time through, though in my defense, I must have been 12 or 13! The Raijin Special always wrecked my HP, so I definitely didn't have anything junctioned to health. And then the beginning of disc 4, and Adel....

Yeah, that took my a hell of a long time, stupid *****.



Anyway, took out the chocobos at Finath River (**** those red ones and their meteor). Indy having Blade Grasp is actually quite sweet. Then to Zeltennia to talk to Delita, and take on Zalmo again. Yeager and his ignore height ability was sweet here, jumping up, then jumping on Zalmo. Agrias was useful here too. Now heading to Bethla Garrison as that's where the armies are about to meet it seems.

Oh **** me, Bed Desert is in the way. That's where we meet Balk for the first time. Mother ****er I hate that guy. Not looking forward to this fight....

I remember my first couple times through FF8 as a kid, and the first Raijin/Fujin battle being my bane. I don't know why, but it kept taking me multiple attempts to beat them. Lol kid me. Awesome writeups to start!!

I'm still going through tactics. Tried Wiegraf again, played some cat and mouse, killed him with monk Ramza. Enter Velius and ultima beasts. This time, I only send Indy up for a double sword hit doing 280 or so. That let Velius come DOWN the ramp this time to cast Cyclops. He targeted Dennis, so I had him run to a corner and do nothing (casting a spell would have occurred after Clops, and Clops was going to kill him). Got in plenty of shots on Velius while casting, Ultima Demon killed Indy, Clops killed Dennis. Velius goes to cast Clops again, but another lightning stab from Agrias, a punch from Ramza doing over 200 and finally, a jump from Yeager was all she wrote!

The rooftop battle against Elmdor was quick. He used muramasa on Rafa, then Indy got his turn, went behind an assassin, and killed her in one turn (first hit was critical, 200, second hit, 140, killed her).

Now off to Zeltennia I believe to talk to Delita. Kill off the Nanten patrol at Doguola Pass. Then a battle in Bervenia Free City against that ***** Meliadoul. Ugh I hate this *****. She continually breaks my equipment, including 3 carabini mails, and 2 circlets. Always find this battle annoying because of that, but it really isn't that difficult. I killed off the summoners and ninja, then slaughtered the archers, and took out Meliadoul. Now time for Finath River (chocobo river I believe), then Zeltennia to talk to Delita.
