And that PAC can spend $5 million on Newt Gingrich's campaign. So you're circumventing the law. Legally.

The point is that Sheldon Adelson can donate the $5 million himself; he doesn't need to have his company Las Vegas Sands do it. So you or I could do the same thing, if we had $5 million to donate.

Also, I don't mind so the campaign finance stuff so much because it's really hard to influence elections with money. Mitt Romney spent a fortune of his own money last time, to very little effect.

From what I understand, you as an individual can donate an unlimited amount to a Super PAC, but not to a candidate's campaign directly. So Sheldon Adelson can donate $5 million to Newt Gingrich's PAC.

They won't work on lowering the debt, no matter which party wins (unless Ron Paul wins and starts vetoing basic necessities unless Congress agrees to his demands). But it will be harder for a divided government to create new expenses that increase the debt faster.

My reason for opposing the bullying laws is that they punish victims who stand up for themselves with the same brush as for the bullies. Being convicted under one of these laws will do far more harm to you than a bully could possibly do in 99% of cases, and you risk running afoul of them unless you are the picture of meekness and subservience. Which just eggs the bullying on. Further, if victims know that these very harsh laws exist against bullying, they are less likely to try to report it, because they do not wish that fate on the bully. It's like in 18th century England, if you caught a thief stealing some minor items from you, you probably don't report him because you know that if he's found guilty, the penalty is death.

Uh, felony murder is treated like murder for sentencing. It's a truly ridiculous doctrine in my opinion. The whole point of having different degrees of murder is to differentiate based on intent, but felony murder requires no intent, no mens rea at all towards the death, so it does away with the degrees.

I have wondered the same thing. Most the people I ask do seem to not realize there is a difference (these people are pretty much idiots in this matter) or they simply don't trust that someone who is gay will not have gay sex. Though as you rightly pointed out the second one makes no sense for Catholics who already expect church leaders to be celibate. And again there is the worry that having a gay pastor will somehow promote or be seen as giving approval to the action, which seems wrong to me.

It is indeed tragic that people don't know the difference. I think many people believe being gay is a choice itself, which would explain it.

1. The New Testament does not overrule the Old Testament. It clarifies it, and adds to it, but does not overrule it. There are parts of the OT that are not applicable to us not because they were overruled by the NT but because they were never meant to apply to us, here in 2012.

2. The NT also says homosexual acts are sinful.

No, the correct remedy here is lawsuit. Plus the losses that they've already taken from hiring less qualified people than they otherwise could have. Wal-Mart management doesn't think those losses are as big as their gains from their actions, of course.

Again, compare it with racism. Are you okay with a Christian private school denying a black student, based solely on his race?

There are schools around that forbid interracial dating. I'm okay with a racist private school existing; I certainly wouldn't send my kids there, and it's not going to hurt me or anyone else who doesn't choose to enroll there.

Because they are not doing anything unethical enough to counterbalance all the traits that make them a successful company. If they started taking every 10th employee hired and locking him in a cage in Siberia, I suspect very few people would still apply to work there. If they did something somewhat less evil like refusing to send out paychecks whenever the CEO doesn't feel like it, people would also likely stop working there. What they've done thus far clearly isn't evil enough to deter lots of people from working there.

It's like Wal-Mart. Despite it's abysmal track record on human rights, it's still hugely popular and not slowing down.

If Wal-Mart had a track record of abusing the human rights of customers, it would quickly lose its popularity among shoppers. If Wal-Mart had a track record of abusing the rights of shareholders, its stock price would drop. If WMT had a track record of abusing the rights of employees, less people would choose to work there or they would demand higher wages. The third one is probably true, WMT isn't very high on people's list of companies they want to work for.
