I;ve heard that Risen's like the Gothic series, but that doesn't help since I've played none of them.

Also get the general impression that it's better than Two Worlds but worse than Divinity 2. Though I haven't really played any of these games I've mentioned. >_>

I guess it's basically kind of a flawed/buggy middle string 5 or 6 out of 10 game, though you could check reviews.

You should be active in the community and post in the forums.

In the past 3 months I was gifted or won in contests 6 games, not counting the Broken Sword and Empire Earth giveaways or the other free games. As well as a BoD7/CStW steam key.

The community is pretty generous, so if you post in the gifting thread you stand a good chance of getting something from someone who likes that game and wants other people to play it, especially while there's a sale going on.

You absolutely need to build up Grave, since there's a stage a couple chapters in where he has a solo fight where you can get stuck if you save over your file during the intermission.

Other characters get forced into the party for some battles, but most of the other instances are easy to work around since there isn't a failure condition if they die. Though I think Okita, Yuri, Grave, Hiro, Carmaine, and Zeonsilt get forced into battles in the last chapter so it might be worth using them a little bit at least.

It's a reboot of a 90s action series, which seems to be pretty well regarded as a bit of a throwback to older anime.

Basically a high school kid gets accidentally walks into a den of intergalactic criminals and blasted by space police officer Birdy. To save his life she transferred his memories into her body and uses her transformation powers to imitate his appearance so he can live some semblance of a normal life while they share the same body.

It sounds cliche, but it actually pulls it off pretty well (better than either of the manga it's based on) and I was pleasantly surprised that it avoided certain tropes. Season 1 is a pretty typical action anime plot, while season 2 is more ploty and personal, examining the aftermath of the first season, Birdy's past, and is a bit more morally ambiguous as it's about Birdy tracking down a vigilante brutally murdering criminals in hiding on earth before they can stand trial.

At any rate you can legally watch it in its entirety for free on Hulu IIRC.

I am pretty sure ATLUS always published Growlanser, before AND after WD's sole release (Generations), which was the first English release.

From what I understand, after the first Growlanser was a cult hit, Atlus Japan bought out Careersoft, and had them turn around and crap out Growlanser 2 and 3 for the PS2 because $$$ which is why they're pretty rushed/underdeveloped (only 5-10 hours long, no to scale world map which was what stood out about the first game) as well as being pretty blatantly fanfictiony (like seriously it's probably at least FF7 compilation level).

WD was probably able to get it since Atlus USA wasn't very well established back then, and they probably weren't very interested in it at the time because it's probably more expensive to license due to having character designs from a famous porn artist IDK.

Atlus USA grabbed the Growlanser name when they released 5, though.

Well Growlanser isn't anything like Langrisser really. It's real time...ish (well, it's like ATB or Grandia), with an emphasis on a to scale world map with all battles taking place on the same map (except for 2 and 3), changing conditions in battle, different levels of reward depending on objective completion (like in an escort mission you can let a few people die and still win, but you'd get lower rewards and a "mission clear" instead of a "mission complete"), and party relationship system.

New clue is it's the 4th game in the series, but apparently this applies for Gungnir too. I guess we have to wait a little longer.

Gungir isn't a Dept. Heaven game. And Kitten was episode 4 of that series.

I'm going to be pretty excited if it's Growlanser 4. It was already considered by fans one of the best games in the series (at least I got the impression from one of the importers here a few years ago that the fanbase was fairly evenly split between 1 and 4 as the best game), and the PSP version has a ton of stuff added to it and in general seems like they cared more about it than P3P or ISP. New animated cutscenes, double the amount of VA, new events, new branching story route with like half a dozen new characters, return of the vacation event system from Growlanser 1...

god that class was such a waste of time and money because the professor was too bloody busy to actually teach anything and pretty much just gave everyone As because he didn't have time to grade anything. I don't think the load times were noticible at all really, maybe more than the cartridge but not really enough to interfere with the game.

There's just an opening and ending CG that shows various scenes from the game, and a trailer mixing the two.

I think there were some other extras like a bestiary and such but it wasn't quite to the same extent as CT's extras.

Jak 1 is pretty much a typical SM64 ish platformer with collectibles that was common a generation back.

Jak 2 adds a bunch of GRIMDARK and guns and GTA esque hub between levels where you jack hover bikes to drive to the next level. It's also a bit longer and harder.

Jak 3 is pretty much the same thing but with more emphasis on vehicles/racing/vehicle combat and cutting the hub size like, in half (since a lot of people complained it was dead space just to extend the length of the game, probably). Though it felt a lot shorter and easier than the second too.

There are two characters and they share the same HP bar. You control the main character with the touch screen. The partner is on the top screen, and they attack/dodge based on pressing the control pad/buttons to attack and dodge. They pass a light baton between them as they successfully land attacks and the one holding it does more damage or something so you can tell which screen to focus on.

Though you can set the partner to auto control, and you can adjust the difficulty level at any time to make things as easy or hard as you like (and there's different item drops on various difficulty levels and you can increase the drop rate by temporarily lowering your level, so there's reasons to do this)

Umihara Kawase Shun Second Edition?

It's an import and obviously not in english but it's a cult physics based platformer where you hook onto objects with a fishing pole and swing/bounce off of them to get past obstacles. There's multiple routes through the game, and multiple ways of approaching levels based on your skill level. And there's a replay feature. Also I think it's supposed to have all the levels from the SNES and PSX versions of the game.

a trailer:

I guess there's also Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, although that kind of skews towards a younger demographic and is rather simple/easy.

Mr Crispy

They're both pretty terrible.

They just look good spritewise, and that's pretty much it.

Grim Grimoire is an RTS, and there's pretty much just one map/background for the entire game.

Odin Sphere is a sort of a brawler, but with some leveling up and cumbersome inventory management. It's also incredibly repetitive due to lack of enemy and terrain variety (each location is pretty much the same except for a few with a gimmick like extreme heat or cold that inflict damage on you unless you stock up on specific potions to counteract each effect), without even getting into how you have to play through the game five times with five different characters to get to the end and they go through most of the the same locations and fight the same bosses just in a slightly different order. And as alluded to earlier you have a fairly limited amount of inventory slots, and it's tied up with a lot of seeds that you have to wait around after you clear a map to plant and harvest items as well as collect vegetables for food recipes that you also have to pay with specific coins.

TopicMost Powerful Fictional Character 2011: Accelerator vs. New Son Gambit [MPFC]
Mr Crispy
09/26/11 11:32:00 AM
#37
Well IIRC Accelerator's shields automatically block light, sound, heat, electricity, gravity, radiation, etc.. unless he allows it to affect him (so he could breathe, or hear other people for example). It's why he looks like an albino and doesn't have much muscle mass.

However the way the shield works is that when an attack or wave or particle or whatever gets within a certain range of him, its direction and speed is reversed reflecting the vector of movement 180 degrees. It's pretty much an automatic reflex and works even if he's sleeping or unconscious. Though at the same time the way his ESP was trained by Kihara, this technique was designed with an intentional flaw against attacks that can redirect themselves in the event they needed to subdue Accelerator. Accelerator got the crap beaten out of him by Kihara in season 2, because he knew how his powers worked and their effective range, and pulled his punches at the last possible second so they would be reflected right into Accelerator's face. Not sure if he tried to fix this weakness later on though.

And I don't think his shields would do any good against anything that would manipulate his matter directly. >_>

Another problem is that he's still human and still needs to breathe. I remember it was said in the manga that he could theoretically survive a direct hit with a nuclear weapon with no ill effects. But he'd still be at risk of suffocating to death standing around inside a huge explosion. At least, it came up when Misaka was trying to break down the oxygen in the air to get him to pass out, and he countered by causing a dust explosion.

I can't really say anything about him and his powers past what the anime covers since I haven't read the novels. Though I don't think there's really anything he could do in this situation.
