it's basically just Evo where everyone plays Chun. in Japan there's a huge amount of character variety in tournaments and the Danisen league. which is a combo of a few factors - no one good at the game likes playing on console (so most good 3s players never bothered with Evo), and of course Americans are just kind of bad at 3s. but yeah this notion of "chun chun chun yun chun ken chun chun" top 8 is not how the game is actually played at high levels. just at Evo.

but yes theres no 3s this year again. it's very important that we all watch SFxT I guess
