Regardless, it was still a bunch of matches that were "hey look at these two big games facing each other" instead of legit rivalries.

I'm tempted to say that those are the only legit rivalries!

The voters elected him based on his ability to give a good speech. One category in which he's actually delivered!

I don't think so actually. He have great speeches in 2008, but they've been pretty lacking recently. Probably because the recent speeches basically can be summarized as, "Trust me and my team of experts, our plan will work eventually." Whereas his campaign speeches were fiery and inspirational about hope and change.

The N64 controller is strange, yeah. You can't hit all the buttons from any hand position, and any hand position other than the one where both hands are on the outside of the controller felt super weird to me.

*Tries to think of what N64 games could be near the top of your list that aren't Mario or Zelda games*

There aren't any Metroid games on the N64, so the big three series are all out. I've never really heard people express love for SSB even if most people like it, and don't remember you praising it much, so that's out. There basically are no third party games on the N64, so that leaves......

Goldeneye and Perfect Dark? Don't remember you praising them.........Paper Mario?

I want a Christian as president, but not a fundamentalist of any sort. In my opinion, fundamentalism is stupid because it reflects the belief that there are certain fundamentals, and these are so important that you can safely ignore deeper analysis in favor of following them. The world isn't that simple.

Every other game had at least 2 losses: at least one in the regular season and one in the postseason. Strangely enough it was FFVII that came closest to toppling Melee, and in the tournament finals. It was close down to the final minutes.

CT has had success in past board contests (it won the first big board games popularity contest in 2003), but Melee was just unbelievably dominant in that NCAA Games Contest.....sort of like CT is looking this time.

Theories can make sense and be wrong when they're logical, but don't fit the data. Nobody really knows which of our modern economic theories are the closest to reality right now. Don't worry, we've long rejected 1930s Keynesian theory, but there's modern theories that share features of it.

I think we need to distinguish between liberal and conservative economists and liberal and conservatives non-economists. I don't think you're understanding the modern leftist economic argument at all. It actually does make sense, even if it isn't correct, and it's not an ideological argument, so it deserves some consideration beyond "this is so illogical it must be a communist plot."

It's really not necessary to turn the GOTY into a mini-tournament, especially when many of the polls get so few votes on account the utter weakness of the games in them. We'd be fine with just Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, DS, PSP, and Multiplatform.

Southern Europe is in no position to force Northern Europe to unite with them. They're weaker economically and militarily (well technically France > Germany in military right now but, um.......it's France and Germany, we all saw what happened the last 3 times). Besides, European countries currently really really don't want war, and would do a lot to avoid it.

In which case I submit that how much you consume isn't the government's business either. The fair tax doesn't go far enough, we need a flat tax for everyone where everyone pays the same amount in absolute dollars. This would be, by the way, the only type of tax that produces zero distortionary effect on the economy, under basic economic theory. Though the basic theory is probably far too simple!

But people with more pay a lower percentage of their income. It's much harsher on poor people than if everyone paid the same percentage of their income. In practice, the fair tax, translated into income tax terms, would probably look something like.....

Poor: 50%
Middle class: 40%
Rich: 20%

Warren Buffet would probably pay far less than 1% since he lives like a middle class person.

And the idea of working to finance an education just is impossible at this point. The only way to earn enough money to pay for college nowadays generally is to have a college degree, in most cases. Naturally people can't do that, so we have various other ways to pay for it, such as scholarships, financial aid, parents, loans, etc. And this makes sense economically, because people should be able to earn more after getting a degree, and that's why the degree can be so expensive. Military servicemen getting their tuition paid doesn't seem unreasonable or hypocritical at all.

It doesn't imply either of those things actually. It doesn't matter what non-Christians do, the contrast between the good Christian morals she promotes and the situation in her family is there as long as good Christian morals say having sex out of wedlock is bad. And as I said, there was nothing Sarah Palin could do about it, so it's really just ironic, not hypocrisy or anything like that. Personally I think it was admirable how she didn't pressure her daughter to get an abortion, knowing the damage the child could do to her reputation.

They've got to be someone who graduated from an elite school and with whom I could have a beer. Preferably someone who went to elite schools not just anywhere, but in New England. Especially if they went to not one but two elite New England Ivy League schools. Even better if the schools have high endowments, because such schools will teach their students how best to manage finances. And I don't want the person to be too much of an overachiever, so I'd be more comfortable with someone who only got okay grades at these great schools. No need for fancy Rhodes Scholarships to study in England.

But seriously, I want the candidate to be:

1. Smart
2. Have the same vision for America that I do

Also, I think common sense is highly overrated in politicians and I'd far rather take the Ivy League educated candidate over someone who supposedly has common sense. She was pretty unpopular by November. In September, she was well-liked, but by the election, she was not. Though granted, she was liked much better back then than now, so she probably didn't lose many votes for McCain (not like the demolition she would receive if she were the Republican nominee this time around). The Republicans had a hopeless election in 2008, the only one of them who could have avoided being branded as Bush 3.0 was Ron Paul.

That's not a lie, that's the plain truth, and you don't need to hear it from any socialists to know it for truth. Sarah Palin is unpopular. You can say that the media made her unpopular, but that doesn't change the fact that she is. People don't want someone they perceive as stupid to be president. It has nothing to do with her conservatism, and everything to do with her perceived stupidity.

Obama isn't dropping the Northeast and West, and Perry won't drop the deep South and his home state. I have a very hard time imaging Obama losing Pennsylvania to someone like Perry, so basically, Perry needs Florida. Perry needs the old people state and just spent ten minutes defending his writing that social security is a Ponzi scheme.

Romney will win New Hampshire against Obama though, and would have a shot at Maine, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Oregon, and Washington. Plus I think Romney would have Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico more or less wrapped up.
