The GOP Congress has jumped the shark. Why not just come out and say it? The top 1% is responsible for 99% of the prosperity of this country, and it's about time they get the share they deserve, 99%.
Perhaps next they'll try to repeal the 13th Amendment, so that poor people can be sold into slavery. -- 90s games > 00s games |

(For the uninitiated, Rick Perry just hosted a prayer service for America that found him allied with groups that believe that the United States should be a Christian nation, and also believes that creationism is and should be taught in public schools).

LTTP lost? I should have remembered to cast my vote! Oh well, Paper Mario is an excellent game too. Now I just have to figure out whether it's better for CT if LTTP lost, to eliminate a potential rival for 1st, or if it had won, to make CT's win over it look more impressive. Once I decide that, the question of whether it's a good thing PM beat LTTP or not will be decided.

Not from the South (though I did live there for a bit when I was really young), but I think with many conservatives and people in rural areas, the trend is to be negative toward large groups of people but to be warm and friendly toward individuals, even if they belong to those bad groups.

Obama only won Independents 52-44 in 2008.
That's slightly larger than his overall margin among the entire electorate (52-46), so it's actually pretty substantial. Massachusetts tells a pretty good story, I think. The electorate is about half independents, slightly less than half Democats, and very few Republicans. Obama won 62-36 in 2008 and Scott Brown then won the Senate special election in 2010 51-47. Wealthy, highly educated suburbs went over to the Republicans, and that is key. Suburbs are now a majority of the population of America, and the biggest swing areas as cities vote overwhelmingly blue and rural areas overwhelmingly red. -- 90s games > 00s games |

5 year plans are openly used in American businesses and schools! There are even application questions asking people where they will be in 5 years, as if encouraging them to develop their own 5 year plans. Communism is clearly infiltrating our society from the core, including at the businesses that are supposed to be beacons of capitalism.

He has support among moderates but not independents, which is a bigger group I think, and which he won by a large margin in 2008. I think the basic difference between moderates and independents is that moderates want the government to be basically similar to what it is now, while independents want it to be radically changed. So, Obama did very well among independents with his hope and change campaign, but since becoming president he's been all about pragmatism, which would naturally alienate them.

Given the choice between socialism and slightly less socialism, which would you vote for?
Also, I don't see how Romney is any more socialist than the other Republican candidates barring Ron Paul. You don't have to worry about this scenario in any case, because there's no way that any candidate who's too socialist to win the general election would win the Republican primary. -- 90s games > 00s games |

You can make solid arguments for it from an educated, theoretical, perspective, but it may not necessarily be correct.

One thing is that the stimulus doesn't make sense from a common sense perspective (as opposed to an educated, theoretical perspective), which is where the Tea Party is drawing much of its support from. If your family is broke and out of work, what do you do? Go to the bank and take out big loans that it will take your children and grandchildren to repay, and then use it to buy big screen televisions and vacations to the French Riviera? No, of course not. But that's just what we're doing on a national level.

Alternatively, the stimulus just doesn't work and it doesn't matter how big it is. Politically, that's going to be a much more powerful argument; dunno whether it would be true economically although I think I'd lean towards yes for that too.

The smartest thing the republican party does is how they realize that 40% of the country isnt gonna like them anyway, so they say screw their vote. All they want is the 40% that are republican, and the middle 20% that actually believes all the talking points and "feel good" stories and doesnt actually look at what political ideologies each party has.
Yup. The Republican Party targets the majority, while the Democratic Party tries to piece together a lot of different minority groups. This surprises me, coming from you! If the Tea Party were really just about limited government and responsible spending, then they might be a legitimate alternative. As it stands, the entire party is comprised of fringe right-wing, racist, religious nutjobs not worth taking seriously. Well, if the Tea Party does become a legitimate 3rd party (too much to hope for), I'd think (hope?) it would contain most of the libertarian types while the old Republican Party would take the social conservatives. -- 90s games > 00s games |

And plenty more two-term presidents. Bottom line, people typically feel more secure about putting a man with presidential experience back into the White House than a newcomer, especially in times of economic turmoil.
In times of military turmoil they do. In times of economic turmoil, the trend is to throw out the incumbent. if you mean that in a "you need a villain to unite the good guys" sort of way, i agree with you i guess. The problem is the government isnt the biggest evil in the usa. Its the fact that the corporation controls everything. I wish a presidential candidate like teddy roosevelt was around. By far the best president in us history. I mean, most of all, in the sense that we need politicians with substantive differences in policy once they are elected. As for government and big corporations (as opposed to small corporations), my feeling is that they are complicit with each other, and that both Democrats and Republicans have supported this system for years. -- 90s games > 00s games |
