BoF4's a pretty typical mid tier RPG. Most of it's fairly similar to 3, but it has more direction to it and while it's a bit padded out near the end it isn't quite as bad as BoF3 constantly kicking you in the balls (going through all that BS to fix the lighthouse to get a boat, only to force you to walk to your destination anyway, all the BS about making sushi and reprogramming the boat to take you across the sea only for the first thing that happens to you when you get there is being teleported back to the mainland for more filler events/dungeons, purposely giving you incorrect directions for crossing the Desert of Death, etc.). The characters are kinda on the bad side but the story is pretty good for the most part with a few pretty unsettling/disturbing scenes and it has one of the most despicable villains ever.

It got hit a bit hard with censorship though. I can understand toning down the violence in one scene a bit to keep the rating down, but some of it's just weird. Namely changing one character from joining the party because he's too drunk to be aware of his surroundings to being too timid to speak up against the rest of the party.

It's been a while for the first but I think it's mostly the same except I think it has the desperate teacher from P4 in the beach scene.

And with the latter yeah it's from the girl's point of view and there's a dialog choice or two which if you pick you discover the boys peeking.

Working through Windup Bird Chronicle with Callahan's Crosstime Saloon set up for next.

Also plan on rereading the entire Discworld series in order of release, up to Mort or Sourcery (I forget what's next after Equal Rites, I think it's Mort). Also need to get around to reading the young adult Discworld book too.

Uhh I haven't played it yet, but based on the demo the graphics, difficulty, battle system, and dungeon design is somewhat different. And the VAs are different.

The story and plot progression's probably about the same (though I think there's a prologue chapter). though as I said I haven't had time to play it yet.

maybe Dark Law: The Meaning of Death?

It's pretty easy/short and has some annoyances, but it's still kind of interesting since it feels like it has some WRPG/P&P/adventure game influences and has a more serious tone than many RPGs of the era.

Not really a big horror fan but the only thing in a horror game that ever managed to creep me out or disturb me so far was the mirror room in SH3. >_>

*shrug* I guess they just don't seem terribly scary simply because they are interactive and not really a lot of consequence (if you die you can just reload), and tend to try to make things more scary by giving you less control or screwing you over (bad controls, limited saves).

SaGa games are grindy, and this game has limited equipment uses, so I'm paranoid of getting stuck in a situation where I have to grind but my weapons are almost out of uses!

eh, tbh I had to throw out most of the weapons I got because my inventory was full.

not to mention quells and metal weapons have infinite uses.

And yes at the very least keep a separate save file with all the towns open before going doing "Into the Northern Continent" since that's the point of no return.

I didn't really think it was very hard besides the Battle of South Moundtop (which is blatantly unfair) and didn't have to grind too much. I stopped by the Anima Tower at the end of the game to grind up to a little so everyone had over 500 HP. It isn't quite like Romancing SaGa 2 constantly kicking you in the balls, there's just some bosses that have tons and tons of HP so you have to pace yourself so you don't run out of steam and die.

The first game isn't bad, but it feels like it overstays its welcome.

It's pretty lighthearted and upbeat game with fairly innocent/childish (and some bratty) characters. Pretty much boils down to "ADVENTURE!", mostly for the sake "ADVENTURE!!!!11111!!!!!!!!11" . A lot of your enjoyment will probably depend at least in part on tolerance of that sort of stuff. It's kind of cool at first, that you are overcoming obstacles no one has been able to before, but it becomes so common it kind of cheapens it. And then you realize you're only about a quarter into the game. It's a pretty long game (about 50-60 hours) and it doesn't really start addressing the "main" plot until disc 2 (and tbh, I thought that some parts of it were kind of out of character or rushed/had a disappointing payoff, although I did have a pretty large gap between starting the game and actually finishing it so whatever >_>)

The battle system is pretty much FF ATB, but bosses have multiple parts and attacks can delay enemy turns. Though, it isn't hard enough to really matter much.

Overall it's probably somewhere in the 6-7 range, but still probably worth the 10 bucks on PSN.

I don't think that DAO did morality very well.

I liked that it tried to get away from black and white alignment some, yet it felt like a lot of the choices weren't really any different. It seemed like rather than offering you "grey" choices that are difficult to choose between or tell the consequences, you have a choice between a reasonably sane and logical solution, and murdering people for no reason. Or, screwing them over so badly for selfish reasons with the thin justification of doing anything necessary to stop the Blight, that it defeats the purpose of trying to help them and stop the Blight. :/

Also I'd go to the mage tower first just to get one of the longest, worst part of the game out of the way as soon as possible.
