Or just that Mass Effect 2's combat doesn't thrill me without being able to jump around everywhere and do some sneak attacks. Augh, no sneak attacks. I can't tell you how badly I want to use all the crates and alternate paths in Mass Effect 2 to do some quality ninja kills, but nooooo, as soon as I move one inch into an area, ten guys are ready and waiting to just start the barrage.

Not really much of a gripe, is it?

Right now, we're watching a show I shall not name out of emb- what the hell, am I saying? My Little Pony's the biggest hit on this board in years.

Right now, we're watching Vampire Diaries (in a trade for watching Breaking Bad after) and one of my gripes with it is the consistency of its characters. The pace is extremely fast. Huge plots build up over one episode, get linked to a dozen characters by the next episode, finish the episode after that, and is rarely mentioned again. People show up, do some big thing, then die just as quickly. It's utterly insane how things progress so rapidly. The characters are all well-acted and there are a few I greatly enjoy, but just how the situations come about and how the characters and plots happen... I don't know. There's a lack of consistency, or perhaps there's too much consistency and no growth.

There's currently an arc where I have no idea how they could explain just why it exists. It's utterly maddening how it works and it's not even midway into season 2 yet that they'd have something like it that's usually reserved for seasons 4 and 5 of lots of shows when they run out of ideas for making things bigger and grander. Most times, you could take any three or four consecutive episodes from this show and the plot points and twists could stretch out to an excellent 13 or even 22 episode run normally.

I enjoy it enough (though I slammed it pretty hard last night after what they both thought was a good episode), but it's whole core is "stuff happens," even if it doesn't make a lick of sense.

Mildly facepalm. They love Whedon =D.

Also, watching Game of Thrones now. Just finished episode five. It's crazy that they say nothing happens. It's just rather hard to understand how the puzzle fits together. But that's understandable when they've got twenty-plus regular characters over four different main locations with at least two new characters an episode.

Did you watch it with them or they with others? Perhaps it's not as well-viewed with a group.

Yeah, got my friends to watch Season 1, but they were just bored that "nothing happened."

Maybe it didn't help that it was the first show we watched after all of Whedon.

Hmm...

Meeting with Jax is really something I haven't considered. For one, we've already told Ordo we'd do it and Ordo's awesome. Jax was an ass to Ordo. **** him. He skimped on money and belittled the old warrior. I know that's how I've held it for the longest time now.

But Ngirl presents a valid viewpoint. He's a power in Al Bhed. And turning the chessboard over, Ordo may not be that great. He had to have done something to piss Jackson off so much. "It's just sad, Ordo, when a teenage girl accomplished more for our tribe than you have in the past month" has to have some nugget of truth to it (and also speaks well of Rikku if Jackson just doesn't outright hate the guy for poor reasons). It also doesn't speak well of our mission if Ordo backs out at any time. He may not be the most reliable guy, even though I enjoy him. Jackson would not only provide a different perspective on Ordo allowing us to make a better judgement call on how much we pursue him, but a stronger vision of how Al Bhed operates, what faction relations are like and how they came to be, whether he really hates old people or it's just Ordo, and maybe information on Odessa and the mysterious benefactor. We may also get another view on Rikku, Yosuke, Amir, and those we haven't met. It's also close by and won't take too much time out of the day as, say, going to Anthro town or the Marketplace would (I don't think).

Also, I can't believe I've been watching The Daily Show for over 10 years. That's insane to me. I still feel like Comedy Central's one of those new stations I just found even though I remember watching old SNL reruns, first airings of Chappelle's Show, British Whose Line, and Battlebots.

#12. Band of Brothers (2001)

Clue 3: Shorter than Firefly

- Band of Brothers is the acclaimed 2001 miniseries by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg about Easy Company in WWII. It's ten episodes of perfect storytelling, acting, scoring, writing, and historical depiction on film. It's just so damn incredible to watch. I first watched it around this time last year, or perhaps in the fall, and was just blown away. I'd always wanted to see it, but I just couldn't believe how amazing and incredible it was. The only reason it's not higher on my list is because it's too recent in my mind (nostalgia and commitment play a huge factor in the top levels), I've only seen it the once, and it's a miniseries. Plus, I have no idea how to talk about it without telling anyone who hasn't to go see it right now! Go! Spike's probably got a marathon as we speak! Maybe not, but they do it a lot! HBO too!

P.S. Couldn't get into The Pacific.

- I can't think of a better clip as to why The Daily Show is what it is. The Daily Show seems to be a hot-button issue these days, but it's always been a show that treats its viewers like adults. We're smart enough not to be talked down to and we're given more exposure and time to certain news items of the day without it being overplayed or overanalyzed. It's the Talk Soup of news, really, where we get what's big in media and politics and get some humor out of it. It's not a real news show, it can't be. It's half an hour four days a week (with some holiday and vacation breaks) and they're reporting what's already been reported. It's also not a parody show because what they're presenting is almost always real (often in absurdist fashion) or extremely (and obviously) sarcastic. It's like with The Soup where you can't really understand why some of the clips are funny without knowing the context behind what's being presented in the reality shows and gossip columns (Tosh.0 needs no context, and will probably be on my next list). I also like parentheses (I haven't had a writing class in years).

The Daily Show is hilarious. It's not just skewering FOX News and making fun of the political absurdity that goes on every day. It's just damn funny. They've got some of the best comedians int he business under their belt and plenty have gone on to bigger things. Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Ed Halms, Rob Corddry, Samantha Bee, Jason Jones, Rob Riggle, Aasif Mandvi, John Oliver, Wyatt Cenac... then you've got Back in Black with Lewis Black and You're Welcome with John Hodgman, and all the itnerviews. Some of the best interviews I think. They're either hilarious or informative and they're always candid. It's just excellence.
