Dawn of the Golden Witch

- We open back in the cathedral, just after ????. Battler was victorious in his fight with the Golden Longsword of Truth. Erika, Beato's piece and opponent of the Endless Witch Beatrice, fights against Battler for control of the game. Battler is now on the opposite end of the chessboard. How will this battle play out? Which of them will take home the win? Which cuisine will reign supreme?!

*Backdraft soundtrack plays*

- She's cute.
- And there's her red-headed twin? Satai and Xiatas! Man, Xiatas, Gotspork, fr0q's Ryokles... so many women on B8 have blue hair. KOS-MOS, Illyria, Sailor Mercury... blue hair's cool. However, that red hair with those cyan eyes, plus the green and yellow? At least she isn't wearing clown makeup... yet.
- Let's see if they have entires, or if anyone else is significantly different...

• Kinzo is already dead at the start of the game, but he's still an illusion of life.
• Jessica still has asthma attack in her bio even though that's only been used maybe once, and even barely so.
• I still love how Shannon is so shy, yet she's showing the most leg of anyone. Yay thigh tattoo of the one-winged eagle. The Shannon "pseudonym" is still a big part of her bio. Kanon's not so much.
• Dlanor's yet-unused Glasses portrait shows up after maybe fifty clicks or so now. Curious what that is since it wasn't around last game.
• BATTLER is the new gamesmaster, and his cloak immediately reminded me of Kinzo's even though they are clearly different.
• Virgilia, Ronove, and augh not more Gaap get their own tab together!
• Know who's missing? Siesta Sisters. Awwwww yeah.

Freaking Awesome! Just remembering the games off-hand:
5 > 3 > 4 > 1 > 2

2's so low because it was annoying. I didn't like how it was the same game plus lots of random magic, and it was disgusting. The first twilight, the goats, Evil Kanon, making Rosa eat her daughter in the tea party. Blech.

1 I moved down even thoguh it's the game I respect the most. Closed room mysteries, simple mystery novel with elements of "is there really magic?" thrown in. And since it was the first, every time something happens, it's just such a huge shock like the first twilight or how everything started ramping up towards the end or Maria being creepy.

4's got tonnnnns going for it, like epic music, the face-off at the end, everything that involved Kyrie's group in the basement (especially the Loser Flags), George & Jessica's battles, and an epic story and payoff. However, two things really hold it back: KINZOFACE and ANGE. Episode 4 is the episode I'm least likely to play again (after 2) just because of Ange. She was awesome at the end, but sitting through her reading the diary at school, Maria's adventures with Sakutarou, her trip with Amakusa, her time with the stakes, her int he tea room... blecch.

I might only be remembering the good parts of 3, but the Tower battle, Kyrie and Rudolf vs. the stakes, Virgiliaface at the end, Beatrice's entire ploy was fridge brilliance, everything about it was amazing. Even the Siesta Sisters, who suck, are better in retrospect because that's the only time they weren't a complete joke =P.

And 5. 5 rules. Erika sucks, but the end of it and the mystery elements more than make up for it.


Also, beofre ????, I totally had Battler going down sooooo much on my tier list, but he's still S-Ranked. Don't know if I'll make a new one yet because it's about the same. Natsuhi drops down a tier most likely (mostly for the whole stupid closet thing), but just about the same.

D: "Knox's 8th, it is forbidden for the case to be resolved with clues that are not PRESENTED! Until now, you have been the DETECTIVE! Was it ever shown that you were not the detective this time, and that you were an observer with a subjective VIEWPOINT?!! Unless it was, you do not have the right to falsify your point of VIEW!!"

B: "In this game! When I figured out the device of the epitaph's riddle, I witnessed Grandfather. ......As has already been shown in red, Grandfather doesn't exist. It was impossible for me to witness him! Therefore, it has already been shown that my viewpoint wasn't objective!!"
- Hell yea!

D: "It is possible that it was just a sheet or something fluttering in the wind and rain which you mistook for Kinzo. It cannot be used as foreshadowing to form a basis for Knox's 9th...!! Mistaking things for something else is a right permitted to all observers!!"

B: "There's the red truth which Beato showed during the 4th game!! No person would mistake Ushiromiya Kinzo by sight!"

Beatrice: In other words, on this island, all illusions thich might lead someone to mistake something for Grandfather, including someone else pretending to be Grandfather, 'most certainly cannot work'.

B: "Because of the right granted by Knox's 9th, people are allowed to mistake a sheet in the wind for anything else and tell about it. .....However! Mistaking it for Grandfather in particular is not permitted in this game due to the red truth!!"

- Here's where the the HP Bar would sidle on it, the evidence folder would pop up, and I'd have to spend the next twenty minutes trying to figure out just what Phoenix Battler was blathering about and present the right evidence. However, I don't think the judges of this game would just shake their head and tell me to try again.
D: "Can you prove that this corpse is Ushiromiya Kinzo's?! No matter how much it resembles him, unless you can prove that it is him, it is possible to claim that it was a substitute corpse from someone ELSE!! Can you show that it was Kinzo's corpse with the truth of HUMANS?! In this case alone, and with the red truth specifically, no counterargument will be effective...!!"

With regards to future incarnations, I miss the giant teams, as long as there weren't crazy amounts of obscure characters (for instance, if Chris' current M3 team was expanded to 25 characters with all of them equally unknown, then **** ever voting in that match). Not only could there be a lot more variation in abilities (KO, Possession, Seduction, Beatrix), but there were a lot more characters to use, a lot more arguments to come up, and more potential for a "holy crap, I forgot all about this character and how he could do that. What Wang said." rise of votes towards the end in an upset. Yeah, a team of five taking on a team of 22 sucked, but when they had just about equal numbers with some godly characters at the forefront, mid-tier characters who have stuck around since Day 20 and you know them by heart, and a bunch of fodder who, in some cases, could turn the tide in some fights (though usually just blown away by big nuke attack #1)? It can be exciting.

But 5-man teams.... yeah, I see their use. I see that there's still giant armies hanging about, but they just get whittled down to size for the actual matches. It's cool that way and I have objections to it except that all the fun characters get fired and we're nearly always left with powerful obscure characters and guns, IMO. Though I'm likely wrong since I stopped paying attention when those characters started popping up =P

I feel honored to be mentioned multiple times, but we gotta remember everyone else, too! And for shame. Seriously. How do you have three or four giant walls of Mercs 1 lovin' without mentioning:

Let's start with Mercs 3 real quick. I definitely have not paid attention to it. In the early days, when General Bub was leading his troops to victory against King Dedede (I could've sworn Dedede and Ayla were a team... TR?); Red XIII & Ayla were my favorite team ever even though they got jack respect (even with Earthworm Jim); every single Cupil argument with Fina; WaLuLu... I was keeping track. When the random visual novel and obscure Japanese Pure Supports started popping up, I faded a bit. And then around Day 15 when I realized a lot of the arguments were so strict and my favorite, more versatile teams were getting taken out regularly by 'serious business' teams, I just went meh and moved on. Though somehow, without prompting, I often manage to end up reading the topics where the big drama's occuring. HK-47, HGR's mass carriers have arrived, that guy who fired everyone... but alas, I've missed all the great matches.

I did enjoy anything that took place on that bridge though. Think it was FFVI's with the three towers across it and there'd often be like a horde of zombies to wade through to the other side or Sniper couldn't shoot because there were towers in the way. Best narrows map I think, and I was a fan of Banon's winding mountain road.

And thinking on it, the Justice League Wally West I hear for a lot of characters, but never for Wally. Wally too grown up IMO for that voice. He's probably got 90s Spider-Man if anything. But thinking on it... Michael Rosenbaum subs in for Spider-Man, Booster Gold a lot of the time, Ted Kord in a mix including his Smallville Lex Luthor voice, Hawkeye, and various C-List villains.

1. No idea who my favorites are currently. I do know I love Dan Jurgens, Alan Davis was amazing in Excalibur and his X-Men issues, and I absolutely adored Joe Madrueira growing up. Loved his art.

2. Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Mr. Freeze's BTAS voices for sure. Superman is the TAS. I used to hear Skeets as a very droll, sarcastic high-class British man... but now I cannot unhear Philip J. Fry. On the flipside, in Brave and the Bold, I thought G'Nort's Woody Allen inspiration was completely out of place when it's obvious he's got John Candy's voice. Booster Gold's definitely got the generic superhero voice, kind of X-Men TAS Cyclops. I should just list:

30. Inviso's Battle Royales: Never followed these. The concept of a Battle Royale always struck me as a neat and efficient way of doing a writing project that holds people's interests: give them characters to create and pit them against each other. I'd imagine, as with any user-submitted project, interest wanes after the entrant you've entered is eliminated, but I'd guess the really well-written Battle Royales keep people around. I've honestly never heard anything about Inviso's writing style on the board, good or bad – people often talk about, say, MWIS or Sir Chris or even non-writers like Yoblazer, but I've yet to hear any comments about Inviso's style. Maybe she and I don't frequent the same circles.


You'll have to wait a bit on the next one - gonna be 'kinda long.'

Inviso's Royales were very well-written with a lot of user feedback and commentary in-between the chapters. I don't think anything influenced the writing, but there were a ton of little bits like Headless Jou. Oh god, I miss Headless Jou. And Donki Pon. All the characters were well-crafted, the stories both individual and overall had strong and wonderful timing, depth, and drama. If it wasn't four or five years gone, I'd remember more than just a few names and places (the bathroom, the rooftop, that hideout, the school, the park, etc.) and events, but damn it was a lot of fun. I don't think I even had a character involved then.
