My impression was that Yell and Accumulate allow you to run circles around enemies and get tons of JP and EXP with no effort, superpowering you very early in the game relative to the story battle levels.

It's called Summer

This month and next I want to see the spike in sales due to the ~10 AAA games coming out

in previous years summer months still had releases. Sure oct-dec has always been the big months, but i mean sales of this summer were down from last summer, and the summer before. Its not just month to month, its month vs last years equivalent.

I expect this fall to be a bit better than last fall, with skyrim, skyward sword, arkham city, and uncharted 3, but i mean the rest of the year has been laughable.

EDIT: Actually, I just now became aware of the fact that you may be saying only games RELEASED in 2010 are selling worse than games released in 2008. That may very well be the case, actually. However, games OVERALL are still selling REALLY well, so I don't think it's fair to say interest has gone down.

are they though? I mean game sales have been going down now pretty much each month.....

No, if you made your fortune in the Roaring 20s, you would recognize the truth that you can never become truly rich by working. You make big money by owning things and risking them. If you made your fortune in the Roaring 20s however, there's a good chance that you would be broke in the 1930s.

agreed, but its somewhat of a metaphor with what i was going after.

Hundreds of millions of people have been slaughtered in the name of communism. Let's start there. Also, it is completely and directly opposed to every ideal of freedom and individuality.

LOL. Same could be said with religion and capitalism. Do you not think people were thrown on the streets back in the 1890s before any gov't regulation of the industrial revolution?

Meh, i know im in the minority on this board, but i think having no (or very close to no) regulations on the economy would be just as bad as having complete government control over the economy.

Im sure everyone here will disagree with me, but I think corporations like Nike and Ford, who outsourced many of their manufacturing jobs, should be taxed to h ell and back if they continue to outsource at this rate. Taxed high enough that its cheaper for them to actually employee our citizens. I'm a firm believer that a strong manufacturing base is the key to a healthy economy, and this country does not have one.

I would be against obama care if we had a strong manufacturing base like we did in the 40s/50s/60s. But the people who dont have health care these days are the ones who would be working these manufacturing jobs that don't exist anymore. There is a reason why germany bought out greece recently. There is a reason why china is keeping our country afloat right now. These countries kept/gained manufacturing.

This "i did it on my own, stop *****ing and do it yourself" mentality has to stop. If you were part of the "roaring 20s", would you tell somebody who is trying to find a job during the great depression to stop being a lazy bum and get a job? If you would you are pretty much a self centered pile of ****.

Oh wait, i forgot muffin doesnt respond to me anymore.

I wish this was true.

Whether or not they are chemically dependent will obviously just depend on the person but waaaaaay too many people I knew in college and even now that I'm out of college THINK they need to drink to have fun which makes it essentially the same.

Most of them will whine if there is no drinking and then go find a place to drink.

pretty much this. There will be a lot of people who argue about this, but out of college aged people, plenty are obsessed with needing some drinks wherever they go. With my social circle its more of an issue with marijuana, but whatever. Needing either to have a fun time kinda annoys me. It would be be like me needing to have video games with my friends to have a fun time, or for me to need to be playing basketball to have a fun time. Kinda annoying.

When the best selling game(hell, top 13 best selling games) of one year is outselling the best selling game of other years by THAT much, you just flat out ignore revenue and realize that people's interest in gaming hasn't declined.

Maybe if all you do is buy 1-2 games a year.....But to say the top 13 best selling games means "oh, its ok if revenue is down across the board for the rest, madden and call of duty still sell like hotcakes!" is just downright scary for the industry. Hell all this means is if the top games are still selling better than ever, then revenue is down even MORE for the majority of games.

edit: also, im not calling you out on this because you very well could be right, but do you have any links that show that 13 games of 2010 outsold the best of 2008. Judging from (what ill admit is little research in this specific part of the argument) ive researched, its only really black ops that mauled the best of 2008.

Pretty sure this is blatantly wrong. The best selling game in 2007 sold 4.82 million. The best in 2008 sold 5.28 million. The thirteenth best selling game of 2010 sold 5.88 million. #1 sold over three times that.

ya, because looking at the top 20 is the best way to judge an industry.

Do you actually believe this? Please tell me you're joking.

what? That gaming might be in for a slight crash? Ya. It could happen. Hell people are already buying less games for consoles and handhelds from as recent as 06/07/08.

I mean it wont be 1983 or anything, but when the biggest gaming stories these days are:

1) You need to be online to play diablo 3
2) Sony is removing the user's ability to file a class action lawsuit a few months after their service was hacked
3) Game "x" has $20.00 DLC on the day of release!!!

That says it all.

FPSs havent been innovative since like early 2000s. Thats the problem. I dont mind CoDs for the most part, they are pretty decent games (although the series is starting to go downhill....world at war was the only must play CoD game of the new era.

Anyway, the genre is pretty easily made, and one of the most cost efficient genres. Thats why they are around 24/7. Combined with the fact that Japanese developers are moving away from what was their bread and butter to genres that would sell < 300,000 copies here....ya gaming's future is really hard to predict right now. I wouldnt be totally surprised to see a crash in the next few years. Probably not on 1983 level, but easily the biggest crash since 1983.

Starsiege: Tribes is the best FPSs of all time btw. Unreal Tournament is a close second though.

But then you get a hard difficulty. Yes, I know, having difficulties is lame, but modern Zeldas and how easy it is to get through them while never dying and just pushing blocks around in the simplest puzzles ever is annoying. A hard mode with more punishing enemies (not just damage, but strategies as well), tougher puzzles, and more need for different weapons and items.

i mean tbh, pretty much all games these days are really easy. Its all about the "cinematic experience" now.

first off, LOL G4. Garbage network.

But i have to give props here. They are right. Skyward Sword doesn't look any different from past zelda games, and honestly the franchise has been on the down side for about 10 years now, as they arent trying to grasp younger generations anymore.

With that said, im not super excited about uncharted 3 though.

Zelda is even losing the kiddie demographic! I talked to a 13 year old the other day who was insistent to me that Skyward Sword was going to be terrible and that he'd rather just keep playing Twilight Princess over and over again than play it.

but tbh, im not sure if zelda should be trying to evolve into a "series for the older". Zelda is like what blink 182 was for preteens in the late 90s. Good starter band, but then you realize they arent that good aside from a small amount of songs.

Zelda shouldnt try to shed their kiddie image. Due to the lack of deeper story lines in the series (sorry, its true), and the fact that nintendo in general doesnt attract the adult crowd, why even bother? Play to your strengths, don't try to compensate for weaknesses. There is a reason why b8 still loves nintendo despite being laughable since the early gamecube days and a twoish year comeback in like 07/08.

Nintendo needs to keep making things for younger gamers, and ride the loyalty wave. If they are trying to compete with sony/microsoft for the "16 and up crowd", they arent creating a fanbase for upcoming younger generations, and i could see nintendo slowly die out.
