I like fusion! not my favorite game in the series by any stretch but it's very solid and did some things brilliantly(SA-X was a great touch, metroid has always been creepy but that was about as close to survival horror it ever got)

I almost wish I wasn't a long time metroid fan, I find that scene ****ed up and I am fully aware of the situation, I can only imagine how weird that scene must be for someone that was just like "metroid other m, $5? I hear good things about this series, lets give this a try...", the game really doesn't tell you ANYTHING

but then I'd miss out on the weirdness of ridley being a furby, so I guess it's kind of a wash

it kind of sucks that other m will probably cause nintendo to shelf this series again, the possibilities for post fusion games could have been amazing

MGS2 and 4 get pretty wacky, but not as bad as other m, and MGS and MGS3 certainly are no where near that realm

MGS also kind of gets a pass because it breaks the fourth wall constantly and doesn't take itself very seriously

samus' arch rival that killed her parents also gets killed by someone else, samus basically does nothing in other m, she's just there to provide an inner monologue that reads like a 13 year olds live journal

And honestly, while the game's writing certainly left a lot to be desired, it wasn't that bad. It had its moments, even. Not exactly high praise but I can think of worse written games that people love.

I'm curious what these games are. there are games with some awful stories out there, but I can't think of a single one that is on other m's level that is respected or even loved

gameplay in other m isn't...terrible I guess but I can't see it being used as justification for this game retailing at $50 either, maybe if it had hit the bargain bin immediately on release...

I would have much less objection to that but even presenting it as a sick problem samus has, she never really resolves that problem, even in fusion, it completely presents her relationship with adam as normal and desireable. adam even has heroic theme music for when he idiotically commits suicide! "that perfect military mind" indeed

the problems in the writing go waaaaay beyond sexism or even anything it does to samus in particular, seriously, makes george lucas look ****ing brilliant. funnily enough as this LP points out, they do actually borrow quite a bit from star wars to expand metroid's canon here(god that hurts to admit that other m is canon and metroid prime apparently isn't)

it really is puzzling how sakamoto thought a cinema driven metroid was a good idea, can you imagine fumito ueda suddenly trying to imitate hideo kojima? that's pretty much what happened here.

I find your taste questionable but I respect your candor, it would be easy to be another one of those people that say this is old while they participate in MWC/soro's millionth topic about tien vs krillin, some save my contest, or any number of other things that are far more monotonous yet no one complains about.

Well, I'm through part 6 so far and all I can say about it so far is that I don't think people are blowing Other M out of proportion enough. I was going into this expecting it to be terrible, so I figured I'd probably be thinking "hey this game didn't look as stupid as I was expecting." No, it was way, way worse than I thought it would be. I'm kind of surprised people are defending to this game to be honest.

I don't really see anyone(here) defending it, at best they'll meekly cry "you're beating a dead horse!" as if their ulterior motive wasn't transparent, but no one wants to be that guy(LMS) that actually comes out and claims this was a good game.

more than half of marriages end in divorce, probably has something to do with the fact that we live in a culture where lying isn't just encouraged but expected, the truth comes out eventually though. I'm perfectly content NOT marrying the wrong person, hope you're looking forward to that probability of having your spouse receive half your paycheck to raise a kid that you're only allowed to see once a week.

I think if you focus it solely on samus' portrayal you're missing the bigger picture entirely, other m isn't bad because it "ruined samus" or anything like that, the writing is just terrible on every level, the dialogue in other m makes george lucas look like a talented writer

if you're lying to someone constantly you don't really respect them, your 'love' is fraudulent

zero mission is damn good except the new end part, and fusion isn't even that bad. hunters I'm not even sure if I'd count, that's like saying mario is missing is an example of a bad game in that series. other m is really the only major misstep in the metroid series, as much of an abortion as the game is it's pretty remarkable that it was that good for 20+ years, mario is the only series with a better track record

I haven't seen bokurano, but uninstall(the OP) is pretty awesome

he did watch 4, episode 5 is the start of the second arc. if that summary is all he knows though then he is missing the other major mechanic entirely too...

still worth watching IMO, each arc leaves a few questions that are answered in other arcs, really you only ruined the end of the second season I think where it started getting worse ANYWAY

actually there seems to be a really major plot point missing from that summary, if that's all you know definitely watch at least the first season and maybe the first few arcs of the second(the very end is ruined though, yes)

most of it is still disturbing until later on, and it is still disturbing in the end that there's that one guy that is openly coming on to children and everyone is totally ok with it

No it's not. If the government can systematically enslave the vast majority of young adults so easily with debt, it would be stupid for them NOT to do it.

Very smart people have worked very hard to get a system like this into place, with education, and with houses, and so many other aspects of the economy. It's just enslavement by debt, and instead of trying to limit the government's control over the economy that allows them to do this, people just cry for the government to help them out of their debt. It's a win-win for the government.

QFT, this system is actually fantastic for the people who designed it, the harder it is for you to get by the more control they have. all they have to do is avoid crossing the line where revolts happens and they wind up with their heads on a pike in the middle of the street, but by now they have a good sense of where that line is and they've methodically turned our entire generation into a bunch of betas who would never dare do such a thing anyway.

Imagination would indeed deteriorate because in a personal context you could no longer tell someone a story, or a joke or an idea. Fiction wouldn't be ruined because we don't believe in it, it would be ruined because we'd know what's gonna happen.Because the person listening/watching/participating would already be a step ahead.

actually this is simply increasing the speed of communication to instantaneous, if anything it means the spoken word would become completely obsolete except as an art form(music, poetry, things where you need to keep rhythm intact). communications improvements have driven the incredibly rapid technological advances we've seen in the past few centuries, this would be way beyond the printing press, the telephone, or the internet...

DYL and sheep have made the best arguments against it, my ideal imagining of it would be that everyone would collectively be aware of everything, if it were restricted to, lets say the creeps at the FBI, NSA, CIA etc who already throw people in foreign prisons with no real evidence(he was wearing a casio watch!), that would be a big, big problem for society...and realistically if it were developed that would probably be what would happen

It'd be tough at first but if anything we -need- that kind of technology, once people can't hide everything away we'll be forced to sort out all of our bull ****, we could become something much better as a species

Even just the internet has an element of this with making information more widely available, that's why there's such a strong movement to destroy it from those in power(SOPA, ACTA etc)
