The game ran like **** on an old Q6600 (quad core) for me. That's kinda normal mid/late game I think.

Runs great on a 2600k though.

Policies, technologies (techs), Units, Buildings. Actually, pretty much anything costs SOMETHING.

Science is like currency used to discover techs. Your population creates science and you can increase the science created by making Science buildings (Public Schools, Observatories, Universities), adopting policies, making research agreements with other civs etc.

Culture works the same way but instead lets you adopt more social policies.

Gold is... well it's gold though it works in a similar way to science and culture. You use gold automatically to pay for unit maintenance (military troops, workers etc), building maintenance in cities, and road maintenance. Any leftover is added to your treasury.

Production is actually a bit different. It depends on the city you look at. More production, means the city will complete projects (units, buildings, wonders) faster.

Whales are a Luxury resource. You can trade with another civ to get them or work a tile with whales.

To work a tile with a luxury resource, the tile needs to be within your borders. Also, sea luxury resources require you to send a work boat to the tile. To make naval units (work boat) the/a city needs to be on the coast.

Next to the map on the bottom right. One of them circles should have the options. Strategic View is also there if you want to use that.
