Marathoned AKB0048 over the past couple of days and it was p cool. The main characters were the least interesting of the lot but I guess they're going to sparkle so much they crap supernovae next season or something. And the CGI dancing was surprisingly good!

Humanity Has Declined - Even though I am missing on the puns/wordplay I am enjoying this show a lot.
Yuru Yuri [quarter note][quarter note] - Overly long and kind of dull setup for the Akarin joke in the first episode but a quality Yuru Yuri experience once that was out of the way.

Someone on /jp/ was kind enough to make a colorblind modification for me because I couldn't distinguish the blue and purple blocks but then my computer died and I lost it. Very sad. But I managed to get all the ending before that happened so that's nice.

A+++ game would play again if I could see properly.

Been falling behind on my girly cartoons because I've been too busy playing my girly alchemy games but have been gradually catching up. Only things I stayed up to date with throughout were Nyaruko and Hyouka because they're the best. Speaking of which.

Beated:

Nyaruko. Very good. I generally didn't care for the "serious" episodes because they just seemed like overly long setups for a punchline that could have come 20 minuted sooner but I liked the finale for whatever reason even though it was exactly that. Best of show: Kuuko. Worst of show: Hastur.

Ghost Yomi. Not so good. It was pretty enjoyable at first but then Kirie and Okonogi became nothing characters to make room for more hilarious boob grabs and Teiichi yelling Yuuko-san and augh.

Finished my first game of God and Kings as Dido on large/emperor/continent(random)/epic with a diplomatic victory. I was poised to win a domination victory (three easily accessible capitals remaining) or a cultural victory (was in the process of building the Utopia Project when the vote came up) but god damn Siam built the UN. Turns out I never won a diplo victory in Civ V before so I got the achievement for that which is nice I guess. It was kind of sloppy game in the planning department. Didn't have a clear goal from the onset and was more interested in playing with the new toys than charging forward to victory. I started attacking civs with the next highest score just to take them down a notch and before I realized it I owned almost ever wonder and had gold/faith/culture coming out of my ears so I just took it easy until the end.

I like all of the new stuff.

One odd thing I noticed was that the AI don't seem to be expand as quickly as I'm used to. Usually they take advantage of their infinite bonus happiness and paint the map as fast as possible, but they moved at a slower, more measured pace in this game. Not sure if it's a new thing or if circumstances just forced them to slow down in this particular game.

Espionage in Civ V is pretty neat. I like it more for City State manipulation than for stealing tech. Every handful of turns your spies have a chance to give you an opinion boost (rigging the election) or you can try to immediately supplant their currently ally (stage a coup).

Religion is better too because it does more than define who hates who the most like in Civ 4. You can hand pick what bonuses you want it to give as it progresses from a pantheon belief to a full fledged religion.

Except for my increasingly deranged ranting in that other thread I am enjoying the game a lot. Religion is very interesting and very powerful. I don't think I've had this much happiness in all my previous games put together. When the people who like to smile the most report comes up I'm actually high on the list instead of barely treading water.

Not quite sure how religious "pressure" is determined yet. My religion seems to be running roughshod over most of the others but Christianity just swamps mine out where ever present.

I do like the changes to combat. Cities are harder to capture and units are harder to kill. Makes siege equipment and positioning more important.

How are there people that still don't understand this

The AI is playing to win the game in this Civ. If they feel the only way they can do that is by declaring war on you, they'll do so. Your 'friends' aren't there to help you win, they're allied with you because they think they can use you and still stay ahead of you, or piggyback off you while they're weaker to eventually catapult them ahead somehow.

Being friendly while you're running away with the game doesn't help them win, so they'll backstab you. Forgiving them every time so they can do it again is just a bad decision on your part here.


A lot of this actually hearkens back to a time when I wasn't in the lead, and even now that I am it's not by a wide huge margin, but that aside...

Caesar declaring war on me doesn't help him win the game. It helps him lose a lot of stuff. It's not even a matter of the AI mismanaging units. I've had a force to be reckoned with for some time now, and he has to march his troops half way across the continent just to get to me. I can see it coming, I can prepare for it, and I'm just plain stronger than him. There is nothing to be gained from these repeated declarations of war. There are many much weaker, much more accessible civs that he could gobble up to bolster his strength, but instead he keeps making these halfhearted solo feints. If we were actually rivals in any sort of context I would understand, but as it is I do not. My immediate neighbors would actually stand to gain from having a go at me, but all they've done is make snide remarks.

I always let it slide because it wasn't worth the effort to make the long march all the way over there and put him in his place, although that has recently changed. If he was my neighbor I would put him down, which is what I would normally do and what I did to China.

The mood swings among the other AI literally last 5 turns. They establish an embassy, make a declaration of friendship, an denounce me all in very quick succession. Again, there is nothing to be gained from this other than to flood me with between-turn messages. If it's some sort of mind game to annoy me then it's succeeding, but I doubt that's the intent. They get nothing from our friendship and nothing from denouncing me because none of it lasts long enough to mean anything. If they thought I was getting too big for my britches and entered an extended guarded state and tried to align the other leaders against me then I would be okay with that. If they thought they could play me to their advantage and hammered out a reasonably lasting friendship to that end then I would be okay with. But they don't. They are schizos. I know that the AI plays to win and that I'll eventually have a reckoning with other powers, but this is not that. This is dumb and obnoxious.

I just never remember the AI being this erratic in previous games (as in, games of Civ 5), and it's really getting my jimmies in a jam.

I'm going to see how it plays out for the rest of the game. My "warmonger" negative modifier that I picked up from being mean to China recently expired, and shortly thereafter I befriended everyone and we all started wrecking Caesar's s*** and it's just one big BFFs club. See, this is how it should be. Everyone using my military to beat up on Augustus Jerkface. What I suspect is that warmonger thing might have put everyone on the cusp of like/dislike and set off their crazy antics. Time will tell!

On another note, I'm playing as Carthage (random draw) and have used my unique abilities exactly twice. One free harbor, on attack over a mountain. How sad.

Things I like:

Evolution and customization of religion
City state interaction*
Espionage*

* Insofar as I understand them, anyway. Espionage in particular is not the most transparent thing in the game and I guess I'll just have to play more to get a better feel for it. There are a lot times when I want to know why something is happening the way it is and the only response the game has is "well how does it feel to want."

Things I don't like:

Nonsensical bull****. I don't even know how to make heads or tails of the AI opinion of the player. Caesar has declared war on me no fewer than 5 times, but after every single war he goes right back to friendly with the only opinion modifier being "we were at war but they don't seem to hold a grudge." And then he goes straight from friendly to war and back again and we repeat the whole process again and again. Meanwhile, everyone else bounces around between friendly and guarded and denouncing me with little seeming to change in the process. Some of them I understand because I might have sort of taken their capital from them so it makes sense that they hate me forever, but most of them just happen out of the blue. I go to see why Siam suddenly wants to denounce me after we just exchanged BFF bracelets and the only opinion modifier is that he is currently denouncing me. What the hell.

It's also kind of dumb how you or the AI can just march a great prophet through someone's territory and completely flip the religion in every city. It's not permanent and it bounces back, but being to flip my holy city to 100% heresy with the push of a button is a tad silly. Got an achievement for, though!
