Compared to many other games of the era, I think they're pretty dang fluid - just compare its controls to Ice Climber's.

But compared to other Mario games, it's unplayable

SMB1 controls are terrible compared to every other Mario game.

Mario Land looked fun, but not enough for me to want to pick it up, and nothing else (including Kid Icarus) really interests me right now.

3.0 seemed to be a nice balance of the number of enemies and how easy it was to kill them. Oh, and Beam Claws were the weapon I used.
