There's no way this isn't 100% intentional

Given that Reynolds ispretty much the closest well ever get to the embodiment of Deadpool, every little detail about this is perfectly on brand for both the character and Reynolds himself. Not only was this intentional, I would almost imagine Reynolds had to be held back from making things even more overt.

It was fucking great. The Mojo episode was completely unnecessary though, you really don't need to add filler to a 10-episode show with such a rapidly-paced plot.

It also really hurt to watch Gambit die, he was my favorite from the original cartoon when I was a kid. I'm just glad he got to go out as the biggest badass at least.

The Mojo episode seemed more like the writers finding a very 90s way to show that Jubilee is waaaaaay stronger than the original show made her out to be. Necessary? No. But it was also right before the Genosha episodes, so having something light-hearted helped a lot to separate the tension of the first few episodes from the latter half of the season.

But is college essential to one learning those "fundamentals"?

In the sense that you can learn it on your own? No. In the sense that people will look at your resume and work and assume that you know it? Yeah.

At least part of the idea of college is the documentation that you actually studied and learned the content, and that if the company hires you theyre not taking on the liability of putting you on a project youre not actually qualified for. I cant tell you how many of my old high school friends joked about how they could learn what Im learning just as well and not have to get the piece of paper saying they did, and it would be fine. Except its not fine, because a lot of engineers are responsible for projects and development where health, safety, and sometimes lives could be put at risk if someone who doesnt know exactly what theyre doing designs something.

Or how about a doctor? Would you trust someone who claimes they studied medicine but doesnt need a diploma to be competent and safe, or someone who actually studied medicine in and got the degrees to validate that they not only trained for their job but also have the fundamentals to learn and understand what changes over time?

As a more mainstream example, Suits entire premise is based around someone who supposedly studied law so well he can run circles around experienced lawyers, but cant actually get accredited as a lawyer. Supposedly this is so impressive a big shot lawyer brings him into the firm anyway, but no one with a brain would ever actually do that. In fact it becomes a huge liability later in the show, and threatens to undermine dozens of their cases because of it. Same with most of STEM, its an actual legal liability to have a non-accredited individual work on higher level design or projects specifically because they didnt get the degree or certifications.

Geiki_Ganger posted...
what you learn as a freshman is already obsolete by the time you graduate?

And this is just wildly oversimplifying. Something being obsolete doesnt mean it isnt useful. Our understanding of things doesnt radically change every 5 years in a way that makes what we knew before wrong except in very rare circumstances. And beyond that, a lot of the fundamentals of any discipline are, well, fundamental. Theyre the basis for our understanding of the world, with everything else built on top of that. Any advances we make are based on better understanding of how the world works that may reapply or expand on that fundamental knowledge, not by invalidating it.

For the story? No, part of the tragedy is that Anakin was at perhaps the worst age to start training to be a Jedi, and that having his mother and Qui-Gonn ripped from him in such a short period was something the Jedi (except the aformentioned Qui-Gonn) were equipped to deal with. Obi-Wan failed to be the guiding figure Anakin needed being so steeped in Jedi tradition, and that wouldnt have come across nearly as good with an older Anakin.

For Jake Lloyd? Hell fucking yes. What the Star Wars fanbase did to him is a tragedy.

B-b-but this time its different! suuuure it is.

I think thats more an evaluation of the prequel trilogy as This wasnt great, but the issues can be dealt with, plus an understanding that we would not have gotten Clone Wars without those films. Those take the sharp edge off, because something really good came out of the prequel trilogy in the end.

The sequel trilogy is not getting the same treatment. All of the Star Wars fiction right now is building off either prequel or main trilogy stuff, while next to nothing is being built off the sequel trilogy.

Did this Dyson guy have any idea how big solar systems are and how impossible it would be to build something around one? Unless it's like those marbles from Men in Black.

Actually, he's rather not a fan of the fact that the concept was named after him. He posited the theory behind it with the idea being that as a civilization advances far enough, the energy needs required to drive it would reach the point where they would have to start harvesting the radiation energy from their star to meet those needs. His theory was only proposed as an answer to how an advanced civilization might solve the problem of growing energy needs on an astronomical scale, and didn't dive into the minutiae of how it would actually be accomplished.

Mostly it's used now as a theory on possibilities for detecting whether other intelligent life exists, as such a structure, or series of structures, would so greatly impact the type of radiation we would see coming off of a star and in a non-naturally occurring way that we would be able to detect and discern it. We can't look at individual planets outside of our solar system and do more than hazard a guess at what they are, and we can only do that for a small subset where the orbits of those planets happen to align in a way to cross in front of their star in our own field of view. But a Dyson sphere would have an outsized impact far beyond what any planetary system has, and so in theory would be more easily detected.

Everything about Dyson spheres is so tremendously impractical. Not just the entire shell concept, a fully encapsulated star, due to the sheer amount of material and the forces involved. But even a network of orbiting objects around a star has such tremendous energy needs that the energy being captured wouldn't be even close to what it took to put it there. Continued maintenance, converting the radiant energy into something useful and getting that energy where it would need to go, etc.

Any civilization capable of building a Dyson sphere most likely wouldn't need one.

Yes, however Denver regularly sets up stations that will record the emissions and license plate of a passing car to log the emissions test, usually along entrances to highways. It's the off-chance you don't pass by those or fail that you'll have to go in. I believe you have to have two clean screens within 14 months to qualify as a pass, so it's pretty rare to have to go in unless you don't drive on highways very often.

Obi-Wan failed on several levels though. He failed to guide Anakin through his training because he couldnt break from the rigid thinking of the Jedi, couldnt bring himself to kill Anakin on Mustafar (which would have been a tremendous act of mercy in comparison to leaving him to die in agony next to a river of lava), and managed to get a whopping days worth of training with Luke in before dying because he failed to convince Owen Lars that Luke was one of the best chances for bringing down the Empire.

The dude wasnt even up to snuff as a lightsaber duelist, with his only notable victories being against Maul (through sheer surprise), Greivous (who want in top fighting form), and Anakin (who was tremendously unbalanced due to his recent shift to the Dark Side). Obi-Wan got his ass handed to him so many times, and the canon of him being a master of the most defensive form of lightsaber combat dont mean squat if he rarely ever turns it to his advantage.

If this has been going on for a week, you absolutely should go to a doctor. Beyond likely being severely being dehydrated, something going on that long is a pretty good indication something is wrong inside your body. If this was just your body trying to flush out something you ate, it would have stopped by now.

And unfortunately, bland food is the best thing for you right now because its the least traumatizing and easiest to digest. Your gut biome is likely in terrible shape, and anything with fat or simple carbs, or even moderately spiced, is just going to irritate your digestive tract further and keep the cycle going.

BRAT diet: Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Toast. Avoid dairy as much as you can, keep drinking clear non-sugary fluids, and if you think you can stomach it try and find some non-sugar electrolyte powder or drink to at least keep the rest of you going. If you really need to push it, it will taste super bland but boiled chicken can get you skme protein.

If you are adamant about not going to a doctor, at least try some immodium to try and get the diahhrea under control. But if it still doesnt help, Go to the damn doctor!

It's nice to want a better situation, but for now we have to deal with the problem in our face.

Do you think the average voter sees it that way? Do you think well be able to convince them that they should be eternally afraid of the GOP, while the GOP is also trying to convince voters they should be eternally afraid of the Dems? Most people do not pay nearly that much attention, and eventually theyre just going to go numb from it all and not vote, or vote for the GOP. We cant keep making every election one where our democracy is at stake no matter how true it is, because eventually the average voter is going to think were crying wolf.

The best thing we can do is vote, but eventually dealing with the problem is very likely going to require a more violent solution. Faith that the system will eventually get us back on the rails is fine; blind faith to that making us ignore that the system may also fail is not.

Ill always vote, but Im not sure thatll do more than buy us four more years. Project 2025 wont go away if Trump loses, it just becomes Project 2029. Eventually the pendulum will swing and well get a Republican President and Congress again. And the mask is off at this point, I dont think GOP voters will accept any attempt to go back to a semi-functional republic.

Voting is great and all, its the best option available at this moment. But lets not pretend that voting harder is going to solve all our woes either, or that a not-insignificant population of this country has already decided political violence to overthrow a legitimately elected president is a better alternative than democracy. Once the GOP made the choice to side with the Jan 6th terrorists, they made it clear they will support more violence to get their way.

You all ready for that possibility? That no matter how you vote this year, or next year, or four years from now, that all of that could be tossed away because the right-wing finally decides to do away with the pretense democracy?

Because in the same way we should all vote so that were not complicit in Trump winning the presidency this election, we should also decide whether were going to be complicit in Trump or another right-wing scumbag seizing power by not fighting back beyond the ballot box.
