He admitted to it when he opened with trying to equate self-defense to targeted violence.

Him just trying to play the "you wouldn't support them if they were cis het white dudes!" is just the cherry on the sundae.

And yet, you are one of the people taking offense to the idea of a targeted minority group defending themselves against violence. All while being unable to walk away from text on the internet and hitting the hide button.

Oh, look. More putting self-defense and hate on the same level along with some good old "just talk it out or leave" as if that's always available to people being targeted literally for existing.

There's hating violence and then there's calling defending yourself from attack as the same kind of "shit behavior" as the people beating you for daring to exist.

There are at least two too many people trying to equate a targeted group defending themselves from people who want them dead to the people who want to kill them.

The idea that defense is just as bad as the actions that require self-defense to be taken is absolute pants on head and I wonder if those same people would be in here saying it if the group being advocated to defend themselves wasn't a targeted, and demonized, minority.

And Starfield. Where they lost their shit over a drop down menu you have to choose to interact with to change your pronouns away from the set it defaults to depending on the base model you chose.

This was the most stupidly predictable thing. Love how they're blaming the localisers even though this is literally a more accurate localisation than the old localisation.

Localisers remove part of the original character? They sleep.
Localisers put that back in in the remake? Real shit.

It's been confirmed the dialogue in the Japanese version has been updated to make it more clear/direct, too, so I wonder what excuse those "I just want accurate localization" types will come up with next.

They were already jumping through hoops from the change being closer to the original Japanese script so they'll still lean heavily on the SPM card and Goombelle's old tattle. All while praising the old localization and crying about being a change in perspective or any of the other bits of nonsense that saw folks bopped from the last thread.

Always was. It's why he needed to deflect the need to define it to everybody else only to dismiss it when the work was done for him as he still refuses to actually define it.

1985. It is stuff like this that many LGBT people of generation were drawn to anime, especially the uncut stuff. Discovering stuff like this gave them an incorrect view on Japan as a whole, anime made them seem much more open than America was back then.

This was actually the scene I had in mind. Just couldn't place the year. It's older than me, not by much, but older.

Times changing. I actually watched a Moon Center(?) Video concerning trans acceptance l/depictions in Japan yesterday before finding this thread and he mentions Vivian in it.

As a further note, while not perfect about treatment of them, Japan is a lot less "eww icky trans" when it comes to trans representation in media and such representations have been around longer than most of us have been alive. And certainly longer than anybody has been upset by them.

I don't know why but all this leaning on "localization" all feels a little familiar.

The context is also important. Vivian wants to be seen as girl and Beldam uses the fact that she is a boy as an insult which Vivian is devastated by.

Nor consistently used. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of the trans characters that exist in Japanese media are not directly, consistently, referred to as trans in their works.

Vivian being trans in the remake is by and far closer to her character in the original than her original translation. An individual who regularly self-identifies as female, presents as female, but has everyone else go "lol still a dude" and has people in her life that shout her down when she "slips up."

Mask off enough to actually face the legal ramifications she says she would will be willing to. Everyone knows what she is, even the folks that try to claim she isn't, so running afoul of those laws would be one less layer of plausible deniability for any of them to hide behind.
