| UF8 11/06/25 4:18:06 PM #48 | andylt posted... Touhou fans seem like they're on another level. I can't think of another fanbase with so many fangames relative to the official series' overall popularity.i think the series popularity is probably proportionate to the fangame count tbh, its fan album (and just general arrangement) count remains even more extreme and of that a lot ends up on youtube with millions of views to their name. that said, there may well be more touhou fangames than non-touhou doujin games period (i'm pretty sure it has to at least be close since they're both well into the thousands) and from that perspective, yeah, there probably is too many lol i think it's really interesting how such a culture developed, how so many hundreds of independent teams would solely dedicate their creative output to the world of one of their peers. arguably a testament to how inspiring his worldbuilding methods are... though also to their own efforts (and every other facet of the fandom) in further broadening the audience. especially nowadays, where some of the fangames are reaching more people than zun's works combined (eg. million sellers like luna nights, mystia's izakaya). but i still think that without him at the core further developing and reinforcing the lore and worldview of the core series, melding so many obscure folklore/religious concepts into every new place and character, it wouldn't still be going on like this, decades past the point where it first really exploded in popularity. and i think that's neat |

| UF8 11/05/25 2:19:37 AM #11 | finally, just a simple heads up that other than emulation, the device actually should be able to handle actual android games like a champ too lol. though the dual screen part may make it less favourable compared to just a high-end phone, i cannot stress enough how good it is to get to actually play stuff like (these aren't exactly the most popular examples but they're ones I've actually tried) wuthering waves or smartphone mmos like legend of neverland without being limited to touch controls... of course, both of those are also on pc these days too lol but it's still not a fundamentally bad way to play them |
| Topic | Got myself an Ayn Thor, one of those fancy 3DS looking Android devices. |
| UF8 11/05/25 2:00:02 AM #10 | anyway on stuff not on clamshelds (original term do not steal) Anything else in the burnout series on ps2 (and legends on psp. 3 is the best one but definitely try the rest, especially revenge, which notably has easily the best crash mode in the series) Every ace combat game before 6 lol (the sky crawlers and the later handheld entries should be doable too, other than assault horizon legacy (the ac2 remake on 3ds). actually, i'm not sure how sky crawlers would even feel like without wiimote+nunchuk tbh) ps2 armored core games are also worth insert ps2 gust and nis games here lol (i rec nis's non-disgaea stuff more) dragon quest v ps2 (there is a fan tl) asura's wrath might be a struggle but one that i've been playing recently (though not on my odin2) that i think may be doable is nobunaga's ambition: sphere of influence, which is still the best nobunaga game tbh also the classic naruto ultimate ninja series (1-5 and heroes 2 on psp) is one of my all time favourite series so i'm obliged to shout it out lol. not confident the storm games would work, probably unsurprisingly considering they essentially work the same as asura, and they have modern remasters anyway lol |
| Topic | Got myself an Ayn Thor, one of those fancy 3DS looking Android devices. |
| UF8 11/05/25 1:09:14 AM #9 | oh yeah regarding games i rec knowing it's a clamshell... Solatorobo Hotel Dusk and Last Window Insert gen 4 pokemon games here don't play black 2 if you haven't played black recently imho Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers series (most would go for sky nowadays but i prefer time/darkness' pacing) FE: Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem (with a tl patch) Etrian Odyssey (all of them, including the 3ds ones if you can handle them. origins collection remasters are overrated) Radiant Historia (3ds version is probably better overall but i personally think the original holds up better in some regards) I'd say insert Ace Attorneys here but ngl the modern remasters are just better (about the only one on ds or 3ds i think plays better is apollo and specifically on the 3ds version and pretty much only because the 3d works really well so it's a moot point here lol) 7th Dragon (they're locked to ds/psp/psp/3ds respectively so hopefully they work fine, fan tls do exist though) Infinite Space Suikoden Tierkreis Sonic & All Stars Racing (specifically the ds version) Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans (legit underrated one-off rpg) Shiren 1/2 (DS) (the latter has a fan tl. 4 and 5 are also on ds but idk if they have translations and you can play them on other platforms anyway) Nostalgia Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition if dsi is supported on android emulators i haven't actually checked yet lol) also on 3ds, it doesn't have 3d and should be more than easy enough to run so i'd rec the Parascientific Escape series edit: back on dsiware, gonna throw in X-Scape too (though i'd also recommend playing the original X on gameboy first. the unreleased localisation (Lunar Chase) came out in one of the nintendo gigaleaks in the past couple of years) edit2: also chrono trigger ds still the best version |

| UF8 11/01/25 2:44:07 AM #259 | personally would've classified Feldherrn as being from Senko no Ronde Rev. X, aka. WarTech (while i think that it probably did also get added to the arcade version, that would've been in the "Senko no Ronde SP" overhaul, which came out after rev.x anyway. and i'm still not even sure if it did tbh) (the reason being that it's an ending theme from the overhauled story mode in rev.x. it is said that sp added in all the updates from rev.x but idk if that included the story) edit: had a look at some gameplay of sp and the story mode (which is also the score attack mode) was unchanged from the original release, and every character only has Confetti (song on the original senko no ronde soundtrack) for their ending themes. so yeah it's strictly a rev.x song |

| UF8 10/31/25 2:33:37 PM #19 | honestly fair, it may be a borderline remake but it's still functionally just an existing game, from the 90s. and also honestly who wouldn't just get kirby on that day lol it was mostly unbeatable and possessors i was trying to get onto the poll tbh (and to a degree the new inazuma eleven and bubble bobble games) since i felt like they were the actual biggest ones of note for here after air riders (which is a very damning thing to say about the month but it is what it is lol) |

| UF8 10/31/25 1:19:26 PM #16 | NOV 6 Unbeatable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vkvi71znX_Q (rhythm action game that saw a prologue release (subtitled White Label) a few years back. i'm not sure if it's really retained the hype or not but it was very well received at the time so i think this might be a hit) Syberia Remastered https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZhcC0N3_Gs (pretty notable release for the year as far as adventure games go. modern microids releases tend to be pretty hit or miss but i haven't heard much negativity around this one yet) NOV 11 Possessor(s) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP9BlGyBmrU (new game from the hyper light drifter/breaker devs, was pushed a bit during summer game fest mostly. it didn't get much talk but i thought it looked promising) Bittersweet Birthday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTA-t4teUto (i've heard people i know mention this game before though i don't really know much about it myself. similar to unbeatable it's had a prologue release (in this case just a normal demo) for several years. seems to me though that it's pretty much a top down action game under the partial guise of a 2d adventure game with a pretty involved story) Windswept https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRHIc2C-zIs (i don't really know anything about this one, i just know that it's another game that people have already checked out the demo for. looks like a decently charming precision platformer with some very clear DKC dna on it) NOV 12 Million Depth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1TbFeXUbv8 (anime sidescroller roguelite where you get a lot of customisation for your weapon. seems to also be very plot-driven) Winter Burrow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlQo0Buvv-4 (not really a game on my radar, i just remember this one from some game showcases earlier in the year) NOV 13 Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zES6cye4xD4 (this is the one that had a global beta test on steam and consoles about a year and a half ago. kinda surprising it took this long to come out, i was sure it already had by now) Assetto Corsa Rally https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1_7q_gHrTo (car game, i don't think there is a world where this would be considered a real snub for a topic here because nobody would be voting it anyway but it is probably good. early access though) NOV 17 The Berlin Apartment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdYuJNZXo6M (i meant to check out the demo of this one myself but i haven't got around to it. no clue what it's deal is but judging from the trailer... i like it) NOV 20 (oh hey that's my birthday) R-Type Delta: HD Boosted https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPbg3d_E3PE (I honestly wouldn't say I'm an R-Type person as far as shmups go to be completely honest. definitely looks like a solid remaster though, and the arrange soundtracks are already shaping up to be great) NOV 25 Alice's World https://store.steampowered.com/app/2439560/Alices_World/ (gives off the impression of a simple indie sidescrolling puzzle game, but apparently there also seem to be 4th wall-breaking horror elements? the titular character is voiced by Bocchi's VA so that's also neat) NOV 26 Detective Instinct: Farewell, My Beloved https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2LEvgj6iUo (detective adventure game inspired primarily by 90s japanese detective games, with a more western art style. this was one of the games on my radar during the boom of ace attorney-likes last year) NOV 27 Bubble Bobble Sugar Dungeon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUma2zdhOMU (i'm not looking it up but i haven't even got a clue when the last new bubble bobble game came out, so... neat) The Last Ninja Collection + Bonus Games https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMagnuQ9oLo (the only revivals of 80s pc games i can think of in the last few years i can think of are all from atari, so it's nice to see a shift from that trend finally) NOV TBD Wavekin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tooPUSGWps (november has hardly even started but i already have my doubts this is actually making it out before december, but i guess we'll see. neat game though, feels like something somewhere in between Aquaria and flOw) |

Hacker Tantei) (doujin adventure (detective mystery) game with net hacking gimmick. no translation in the works. looks pretty inspired by Urban Myth Dissolution Center, which isn't very surprising considering that was by far one of the most successful japanese indie games of the year. i STILL see playthrough streams of it in my youtube feed on a daily basis which is ABSURD for something as far from the AAA realm as it) https://store.steampowered.com/app/3882350/Resonance_Solstice/ (gacha game pc port. i only really know this game for its soundtrack, since Hiroyuki Sawano was jointly responsible for it) https://store.steampowered.com/app/3837380/Majogami/ (the obligatory new "one-off inti creates platformer that isn't gunvolt because they're still determined to gaslight people into believing that they aren't actually going to make another gunvolt" title. they've gotten into a real habit of making games like this pretty much since umbraclaw last year, or arguably gal guardians or the love live (yohane) metroidvania the year before) https://store.steampowered.com/app/3649490/Stray_Children/ (obviously between the original announcement, the japanese launch and now this localised release i've spent a lot of time expressing my excitement for this one but for those less in the know i guess i might as well explain it for once. It's the sequel to Moon: Remix RPG Adventure, the game that inspired Undertale the most. takes a lot of inspiration from it in return, as well as many other titles (eg. OFF, Ib, Yume Nikki, Anodyne, and a lot of the other titles Kimura worked on himself, including Chulip, Black Bird, Mon Amour, and others)) https://store.steampowered.com/app/3523840/Harvest_Moon_Home_Sweet_Home_Special_Edition/ (mobile port LOL) https://store.steampowered.com/app/2893570/DRAGON_QUEST_I__II_HD2D_Remake/ (still the biggest snub of the topic tbh) https://store.steampowered.com/app/3054820/DevilConnection/ (i'm not sure i even want to know what its wishlist count is like now) https://store.steampowered.com/app/2246670/Tales_of_Xillia_Remastered/ (you know, i finally got around to setting my ps3 up again the other day, and i still had the disc for xillia in there (meaning it was in there when i moved)... oops) https://store.steampowered.com/app/3756520/PIXEL_DASH_Toast_of_Destiny/ (breadrunner. tbh this kind of game shouldn't cost anything above like $2 or it's a straight up robbery, but something tells me it's definitely going to be more) https://store.steampowered.com/app/2693410/The_Reason_for_Your_Smile/ (i'll be honest, this is probably an actual h-game, but i'm still mentioning it because i think it's really funny to release an NTR game for halloween) PS. while i'm still bumping this topic i might as well say that i looked at next month now and it looks downright dismal on the major release front outside of kirby air riders (and i don't even have a switch 2 so lol) so here's some i think are worth including https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vkvi71znX_Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP9BlGyBmrU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTA-t4teUto https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1TbFeXUbv8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zES6cye4xD4 https://store.steampowered.com/app/2439560/Alices_World/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2LEvgj6iUo |
