This is literally nothing new. Post 2 has a fantastic example from the very first Pokemon game, and it's far from the only example of Gen 1. Rattata is just a rat. Grimer is literally just sludge, and Muk is just a bigger pile of sludge. Seel is just a seal, right down to having a near-identical name to the species it's based on!

Pokemon has always had designs that were lazy and uninspired, since the very beginning. That said, there are always designs that are pretty neat as well, no matter which Gen you look at. The same Gen that gave us Eiscue (the Pokemon you listed in OP) also gave us stuff like Corviknight, Grimmsnarl, and Yamper. The same generation that gave us the ice cream and trash Pokemon (which, by the way, the former isn't even that bad) also gave us Sigilyph, Hydreigon, and even Chandelure (yes, it may be based on a chandelier but it's still an awesome design). Even Gen 7, the generation with some of my least favorite Pokemon, also gave us absolute bangers like Decidueye, Bewear, and Mimikyu.

Every Pokemon game is gonna have some flops and some amazing mons, and the neat thing is that... how good a design is is completely subjective. I listed out some of the examples of Gen 1 Pokemon that I feel are uninspired above, but that's just how I feel about them. Every Pokemon is SOMEONE'S favorite. What you think is a bad design might be someone's absolute fav.

All that to say, this "problem" is A) a consistent thing that has been going on since the initial batch of 151, and B) Not actually an issue at all.

If you're gonna whine about something, at least make sure you know what you're talking about.

This would never happen, and the sad thing is, the sp00ky otherworldly portal isn't even the most unbelievable thing about this situation.

Some people have some really insightful things to say on certain points of certain games, and sometimes it's gotten me out of a tough spot, or made me think about it in a different way than I did before.

But some dudes are annoying as fuck and have nothing to contribute besides "LiKe SuBsCrIbE aNd HiT tHe BeLl!!!!!1!!!" and those are the people I turn off immediately.

Horrible idea. Starting in the middle of a series with a story like Yakuza's isn't really wise imo. That's like starting Kingdom Hearts by playing 2 first. You could, but then you'd have no idea what's going on. Yakuza 7 is the exception because it functions as a soft reboot, with a new protag and everything. But I personally don't like 7's gameplay so I can't recommend that myself.

0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 (the latter two titles essentially being remakes of 1 and 2) go on pretty good sales regularly (though for some reason, 0 isn't on sale right now for the Summer Sale? But Kiwami and Kiwami 2 are). 0 is the best starting point. From there, go in numerical order.

I'll just give my opinions on the whole series.

-1 is, imo, the worst of the 3 main-numbered entries. That said, it's still great. Just feels kinda... jank sometimes. But that's understandable because it's the first entry in the series.
-Chain of Memories, on the other hand, is an absolute dumpster fire.
-Haven't played much of Days so can't say much about it besides the story
-2 is my favorite game in the whole series.
-Birth By Sleep I've never completely beaten (furthest I've gotten in completing Terra and Ventus' routes before burning out towards the end of Aqua's) but I like it a lot too.
-I've heard Re:Coded is the better of the DS games in terms of gameplay, but I haven't played much of it either. But the story is far worse than it's counterpart, Days. To the point where I never finished the movie on the collection.
-Dream Drop is kinda boring. But it's not Chain of Memories so that makes it merely mediocre rather than outright bad.
-Never played 0.2 but I hear it's a neat tech demo for 3, showcasing what the new engine can do.
-3 is phenomenal. Don't let the haters tell you otherwise. It ties up nearly every hanging plot thread in a nice, neat little bow, and the ones it doesn't resolve are because it's probably gonna be important to the next arc. Plus the gameplay is everything I loved about 2, amped up to 11. Only bad parts are the Frozen world and Pirates world, and the Pirates world is only bad because of the mechanics with sailing the open seas (specifically, the ghost ship that's basically an instant game over if you run into it, with no control over when you run into it)
-Melody of Memory is neat, I guess.

The point where it becomes "too much sauce" is when it starts getting flimsy and soggy.
